Hi everyone,

I have a rPI3.
Planning to use it as low power home seedbox.
4gb microsd card route to /dev/sda (thumbdrive) to boot.

Tried installing deluge and transmission and rtorrent.

Deluge
- speed not reliable. Fluctuating but not >1Mb/s

Transmission
- having write errors.
Spent hours and gave up.

rtorrent
- light weight but not graphical.

Anyone can comment on your build/configuration?
Im an newbie for raspberry pi.

Thank you bro.
qbittorrent is great.

I boot up using microsd.
But config to boot from /dev/sda

So its booting from my usb drive.
With usb 2.0 sld be much higher writespeed too.
So i suspect that the processor or ram is not enough.

Optimise Your torrent box

Actually, it should be sufficient.

You can make it faster by installing minimal install and r torrent then you will save on memory. Also, you can format your USB drive to ext4. In order to retrieve files use vsftpd for file transfers. I run a few of these with openvpn as well so my downloads are secure and encrypted.

How I use my Raspberry Pi

Anyone else with rPi3?

What are you using this for?

Mine is... collecting dust.

I am a big fan of the Raspberry Pi and own 6 of these boxes from a range of Raspberry Pis from Model B to the latest Raspi 3. Let me list down how I use these boxes.

1. A regular Raspi Desktop to teach my kids Python, Mindcraft and Scratch. And of course as a spare internet surfing machine. Accompanied with a 24 inch TV and a wireless combo keyboard/mouse like logitech, you got yourself a super cheap desktop. Best of all, it does not get infected with viruses, a good way to let novice users surf the net and read emails.

2. 24 hours Web Server jointly with the use of a dynamic DNS service like dyndns. I run Apache for a few years now and it has never caused me any problems with zero downtime and great power consumption with only 1A power.

3. SMS Server/Gateway which allows me to send SMS through a Web Server without costing me overseas SMS rates. It also acts as an SMS alert system for me to track any system outages via SMS alerts. I travel a fair bit and this system allows me to alert my family members in case of emergencies.

4. Forget about dropbox and use Owncloud Storage which stores your precious data at the safety of your own home. Recommended for Raspi 2 and above as the processor for the older Raspi will not be powerful enough to run a database and web server with acceptable performance.

5. As a Media Box running Kodi or OpenElect, just google visit their website download the image and burn to your microSD and it boots up perfectly. Then install all the video plugins and you are all ready to watch all that wonderful KDramas. Good to use a VPN as well for better performance.

6. Lastly, as a Torrent Download Box. I use my older Raspi for these as the demand for processor speed and memory is low. I do a minimum install without GUI and install screen, rtorrent, openvpn and vsftp on a large SDcard (64MB). These days with the low cost of SDcard you can simply run it from a single SDcard. I do not connect portable storage to the raspi as the older models are not stable with their USB power.

That's all for now! I hope you like this write up and do try out the Raspi, it is a great way to learn about computers.

Built a smart mirror with the pi 3!

Here's the link

Built from the latest Raspberry Pi 3!

This project is designed by me and I did NOT use any github projects to start off with.

Current features includes :

- Current temperature (from the nearest weather station from your house)

- Weather forecast of different regions of Singapore ( you can add as many regions as you want to), I've added my house, my gf's house and my workplace. It also tells you how the weather is like today.

- Next 4 days forecast, simple, telling you whether it will rain or not.

- Current time,day and date

- Alarm clock feature

- Bus arrival timings ( You customize this to display which bus and which bus stop according to the time of the day)

- Traffic News

- Smart greetings, will display greetings according to the time of the day

- Channel News Asia's latest news ( CNA style, bottom banner ) xD

- Play youtube videos

- Latest rain forecast of Singapore

- Show 4D results!

- Watch Channel News Asia

My Raspberry Pi 3 just came yesterday. Planning to turn it into a music player and output to my Schiit Mimby with Rune Audio installed.

No knowledge at all about this but shouldn't be a problem with all the guides online.

Download the image from openelect.tv look for raspi image 2 or 3

Image to your microSD and you are all set.

In case you are interested in the wiki the full link is openelect.tv

I am assuming you use Kodi as a HTPC to play your music. I am not a sound music fanatic so I am not sure if this will meet your requirements. There could be better solutions out there.

Hope this helps and have fun with the raspi 3!

Hi Guy i new to this Raspberry pi 3. i want to check with you , Where should i buy it from?

From Amazon? i saw starter pack but not sure what the diff.
From Sg? Raspberry Pi | RS Singapore
Or
Raspberry Pi Boards, Enclosures & Cameras | element14
Other like SGBotic

Also what are the advice needed for me to start using programming raspberry pi 3? any kit i need?

starter pack usually include the raspberry pi and also some of the key accessories such as SD card (loaded with OS), casing, and power supply. items included in the start pack varies from different sellers.

I bought mine from element14 but I only get the raspberry pi and the casing. the official casing looks quite sleek. previously i had a non-official one but the cut aren't that good.

you can use your android phone charger as power supply, it works for me.

the above should be enough for you to get started.

what kind of programming are you looking to do? i mainly use it to test my script locally before deploying them on the cloud.

I've been using ug802 (android mini stick dual core 1.2G arm, changed the OS to ubuntu) for years for this purpose.

Used VPN and transmission, connect to external powered 3.5" HDD

If dual core 1.2G arm has no issue, I don't see how quad core RPi has issue.

What writing error on transmission did you see?

Recently I bought an OrangePi Zero, and intending to play around to replace my old tv stick.
