StarHub Google Wifi- Is it Worth it?

Extremely?

From what I understand, the first Google wifi unit needs to be connected from the WAN port of the MESH unit to the router. Next any other unit can connect to the Ethernet (Wall connect) using the MESH LAN port. The MESH will work together to generate 1 unified wifi signal through your home.

If you need more units to connect via cable to the Wall connect point - yes then you need a switch to make this work. It works like a splitter.

Any other unit does NOT need to connect to the Ethernet (Wall connect).
If you do that, it defeats the purpose of WiFi Mesh.
Instead, they will connect/communicate to each another via WiFi.
Thus you only need a power plug to power on the device.

That's a wrong concept altogether.

WiFi mesh on ethernet backhaul, which Google wifi does support daisy chain, will allow users to get full wifi bandwidth.

Nodes on wireless backhaul will inevitably have lower speed due to wireless limitation..

Also google wifi mesh must be used as a router. It cannot function as mesh in AP mode or bridge mode.

just got the google mesh at comex 2017... all i can say Starhub and this google mesh is a load of CROC...

firstly new home .. is only a 4 Br condo... however... apart from the living room getting about 100mbps - 300mbps.... those freaking nodes in the rest of the rooms... are transmitting close to 1~5mbps.

called Starhub... they say google mesh not their specialty... come on... then i say want to return the google mesh and use my old router cannot...

now earliest also october than can get their inhouse specialist see...
really crap

im always under this impression that technology revolves faster than what the infrastructure can support... so, though having mesh is fabulous... maybe wait for a while more?

Same here ... but we are the testbed for both technology and infrastructure.
As sg is one of the earliest country to adopt it nation wide.
Even technical support are still unable to digest ... hence there will still many teething issues ...

All mesh networking systems can work with any ISP - assuming you're doing a basic network setup and not using mio tv etc.

Place it closer.
Each node is quite weak in coverage.

In any case, something else is not right and it can't be the mesh network.... Because it's just too simple to get it working, there's nothing else to configure - assuming it has been reset just to be sure there are no old settings on it.

about 10m apart but separated by the normal walls of a house, so i find it extremely disturbing that its that slow.

Mine was setup initially with wireless backhaul, and primary unit was about 6 metres apart from the node (Primary unit connected to Fiber modem inside the shoe cabinet with closed door while node was on the TV console in the living room). Even with this I was able to get speeds up to 55Mbps while connected to the node, and not the primary unit.

However, my place has concealed ethernet sockets from the shoe cabinet to the living room. So, I hooked up the ethernet backhaul and now I am able to achieve 200-280mbps regardless of which node I am connected to. Whole house can achieve that speed.

I guess its a matter of placing it at the correct position for the mesh to work at its optimal performance. If ethernet backhaul is available, definitely hook it up.

The issue is due to partly separate by a wall.
Most walls are thick and may cause weak signal to pass thru.
Hence this may cause the signal to be weaken further.

guys if I buy Google wifi units from Qoo10 and I'm not singtel, will it work for me?

No, it will not work for Singtel
Google wifi do not have vlan tagging support
Base on Google explaination , If you’re creating a mesh network with multiple Wifi points, your Primary Wifi point cannot be in Bridge mode.

Since your are with Singtel, it is advisable that you go with Singtel Airties mesh system.

Possibly, but the speeds you're getting are way too low :(

The client connecting to the node that says you're getting only 5Mbps, how far away is your client from this particular node?

Alternatively, just leave the primary Singtel provisioned router as-is.

Just use the mesh system that rides on the main router - i.e. via wired connection. So yes, you'll still need to deal with dual wireless networks, but one can choose to use the Wi-Fi from just the mesh unit.

The User need to rearrange the Goggle Wifi available sets.
That is using the other Google Wifi sets to pass the WiFi signal.
Instead of just one direct signal which encountered the wall.
The other issue may lies in the router as firmware update could have better wifi signal.
This is true as when i update Dlink dir868l firmware the wifi signal improved a lot, as confirmed by Dlink tech support.

Should not be any issue.
Exclusive deal means the distributor favour one ISP instead.
Can get from other sources.
It will work with most routers.
