They are focusing the market on quantity and not quality.
In fact most sales of Xiaomi phone is mid to low end. The high end model is little.
Also, they have copy right issue is many countries unlike Huawei.

its not rumors, its TENAA certification

well maybe, just maybe, the Intl version will be IPS LCD, lol. or the dual cam, or Pro version

Indian market, xiaomi want to keep rmn5 at the same price point, as they are successful with rmn4, but came up with this TFT crap

would the ah nehs be fooled?
Actually, I don't see any fuss about the TFT.

Even the Mi Note 3 is also stated as TFT, when in actual fact it's using an IPS

The Redmi Note 4X is also stated as TFT too

I believe TENAA refers all LCD as TFT, while referring all AMOLED as OLED.

Maybe the Redmi series will probably only get one major Android update, following it will only be security updates or added MIUI features.

May be not even timely security fixes. eg the recent WPA2 security issue.

The weekly MIUI Developer ROM has been updated to fix the WPA2 security issue.
No point fixing at ROM level.
Should execute FOTA security updates at the Android system level. How many users play around with ROMs, rooted devices?

That's right. The weekly update is Developer version. For general user, it is better to use released version and it should be via OTA.

Developer version has its weakness, we never know it has gone thru enough test (clearly not as you can see from Miui forum). So it is use at your own risk as stated.

Many other maker is already at SD660.
SD660 in fact is cheaper then SD650/652 that was launched some 1 years plus. SD625 is the cheap one.

Anyway, this phone should be announced sometime mid NOV this year.

Xiaomi is a confusing company. Not only the model number. But the use of hardware and choice of processor. In general, they use 8 series or high end 6 series SD for their Mi range. Until recently, is a mix.

Think all they want is market share. In general they will announced a large quantity of sales. But in actual, especially if you happen to travel to China. You hardly see people carry Xiaomi but Huawei or other brand.

Xiaomi in China is generally tagged with ”high class” copied phone. They gain their name started few years back with very successful web only selling by using Apple selling concept. This method is proven to be a failure, so now you are going to see more of MiHome all over the place.

Xiaomi's mi.com isn't considered as a failure, it's actually one of the biggest e-commerce site in China now along with Alibaba's Taobao and JD.com too.
Xiaomi has also opened a new online store under the name of 米家有品 few months back, selling more variety of products under their umbrella of ecosystem brands, more of a lifestyle store.
米家有品: https://youpin.mi.com/

The idea of 新零售 initiated by Lei Jun this year is to use the same strategy as what they apply to their mi.com to their offline stores that's known as 小米之家(Mi Home). It has proven to be a success and Xiaomi is progressively opening new Mi Home stores in Mainland China almost every weekends.

juz flash custom rom, so many to choose from

lineageos oreo alpha is out oredi

WTH did xiaomi implement TFT LCDs? its so deprecated

Hi,

We have to wait for a few months after phone release as developers will have to develop custom rom for it. Cannot use redmi note 4 rom. Also i'm not sure if xiaomi allow the bootloader to be unlocked for this, if cannot then will have to stuck with MIUI. And must see which processor too. If helio, very little developers gonna adopt custom rom on it.

Technically all LCDs are TFT. TN/IPS/VA panel type is specifically about the liquid crystal chemistry and activation technique.

They dont sell it at mi.com just like Singapore right?
Think only a few countries still using mi.com to sell.
It is a failure in fact. If you go Taobao or Tmall, many shops also claim they are Xiaomi authorized dealer.

新零售 is just another copy of Apple concept, nothing new as usual. Even the layout in the shop are almost Apple like.

About time 小米 work on the Redmi Note series rear design layout. Not outstanding enough, always the same pattern.
The camera lens, LED flash aperture & laser sensor aperture should ideally be encapsulated in a recessed single block housing component, if only for aesthetics intent ...

新零售 also includes authorizing external parties to operate on behalf of Xiaomi too, which is also seen in overseas markets such as Singapore.

mi.com is available in Greater China region(CN, HK, TW) and India.

not gonna repeat the wait for note 5

Aiya, just buy 1 version back and you'll have plenty of custom ROMs and kernels not to mention it's cheaper (not necessarily weaker).

Okay, the above quoted device is proven to be the Redmi 5 Plus, and not the Redmi Note 5 as the global variant of the Redmi 5 Plus(MEG7) has just been certified with Taiwan's NCC

Really looking forward to the Redmi Note 5. My Note 4 has problem (which I think is due to the battery). So looking for the battery to tie over the period.

I wonder how long it would take Mi Singapore to launch the 5 or 5x (or other variants).

Earliest I think will be next year January. If approved faster will be end of December.

Either way we so far have not gotten any official news from Xiaomi themselves. All these are just speculation.
