Hi,

Just to check. Is this HL115EP combatible with HL280E? Also which one is better with Fibre, HL280 or HL115EP?

115EP imo.

Planning to pick a pair up. Any recommendations on where to get a good price for this?

Sitex

Homeplug is something I am considering to use with fibre, but quite confusing leh...

My OpenNet box is at level 1, then TV at level 2. How to connect using homeplug? Read about all those must connect using same phase ah..

Can I connect my TP to ONT to Router (Connected to Homeplug)

Then automatically I can just plug in a homeplug at all my other rooms to use the connection, even on TV?

TP -> ONT -> Router -> HP1 -> HP2 -> PC? then yes.

do note that your house infra is not a typical HDB flat - check with your contractor to determine if you have 1 circuit breaker for the entire house or not

I just opened a HL280 to find that it is not compatible with HL115EP. Haiz.

Will it be compatible in the future?

Hi Aztech

I have the same intend to pair HL115EP with HL110EW. Like to increase the wireless coverage of M1 Huawei 256. However I have just one powerplug and will need to use an extension with the same powerplug. What will be the impact to the speed?

I like to have digital voice so exploring this option.

i rather pair HL115EP to 1 D-Link W306AV works alot better for my case.
on extension(multi-plugs 5point - fully plugged into) my D-Link W306AV is only capable of hitting 40-50mb/s

To be honest, the 280E is a dud. I had various problems trying to stream mioTV across it, and only got around 20Mbps max on it. The older 110EP fared much better where the 280E failed. I am inclined to think the Gigle chipset it was based on was more marketing hype than actual real world performance.

i agree on 280E is a dud super unstable. Tried it before i migrated to HL115EP and never wanted anything with 280E again

Thank you. You provided me hope! I will try HL115EP as the "base" to be connected to RG256. The extension cord (multi-plugs 6 points) will be connected to HL115EP.

The other wireless homeplug will be in my living room about 8m away. Hope this will work and speed is fast enough for movie streaming.

my test case has proven it to be good enough.

Finally went out to buy a 3 x HL115EP so i can perform a product trial against my current 3 X HL280

The test is basically done using a drop in test on the current HL280 power point and location, follow by the old points that was used in my HL109 test which the HL280 perform poorly in.

In a quick summary, on the power points where the HL280 performed poorly in, there is a net gain of nearly 100% from a low / high speed of 21 /24mbps against HL115EP 48 / 52mbps. Similar results was noted with the other test power points except the previously established best 2 points for the HL280, the HL115EP performed 23% slower yielding a low / high speed of 63 / 65mbps against HL280 78 / 81mbps.

However, it is noted that the best performing power point for the HL280 doesn't seems to work best for the HL115EP. In my test, from my desktop PC to my HTPC power point, the HL115EP yield a stable 105 / 110 mbps. This same point produced the same performance variation for the HL108 / 109 / 280 which suggest this isn't the best power point for my purpose but strangely this same power point works wonders for the HL115EP.

In short, as per my previous conclusion, HL115EP proves to be a better all round performer but still lags behind the HL280 performance when conditions is in favor.

I purposely replace the HTPC power point with HL280 while the rest is already on HL115EP. Compatibility wise from the results, I was quite surprise that the HL115EP and HL280 can work properly without too much lost of speed.

* The HL280 is using a different firmware 224.2.2-023 that was released on 28 Oct 2011 on Aztech ftp. In my earlier test, the HL280 was using a unreleased 2.0.23 which dates back to 20 June 2011 which imho has a better performance. HL115EP is currently on firmware 245.2.5-0102 that ships with the unit, there is no indication that this is the release firmware as there is no firmware being uploaded to the Aztech ftp site.

This conclude my experience so far as now i am left 3 x HL280 which is basically EOL (EOS as well from the responses) well within a year of launch by Aztech.

what unjust your talking about? The comments are made by the observation made during my own testing and the conditions may not be applied to another person. I personally don't think HL115EP is all that fantastic, it merely imho follow up with what the HL280 should have been.

To me HL280 is an incomplete product and shouldn't be released but it did. It does have the potential but too bad its life was cut short. Which is why i never recommend HL280. Those who bought it did on their it on their own and not by my influence.

Possible reason why your 280 may have worked better than the 115 in your test example is that the Gigle chipset can do meshing. You are after all using 3x units rather than point to point.

All is fair i guess you gain some, you lose some. It was a interesting feature that could have made a big difference.

My set do not have a high pitch sound. Anyway, 115ep is great. Bought it at 115 for a pair.

Can try if harvey norman / challenger can match the price of $119/pair. Sometimes it works.

Few weeks ago, i got it at $60/unit at harvey norman.
