@reframe,

Nothing need to be done on the HG256.
Have you try power OFF ONT/Asus/HG256 together, then power ON ONT first, wait for 5 min then power ON the Asus & HG256 ?

I think reframe is referring to an N66U rather than an N56U, from his other thread. Hard to isolate if it is his setting/setup, or the N66U preset has issues.

I have powered off one or the other but not all three at the same time. I will try that tomorrow.

I am still not clear what should be the settings for
WAN IP for asus and huawei.

asus: 192.168.1.1 and start IP 192.168.1.2
HG: 192.168.1.100 and start IP 192.168.1.101

Is the above ok?

Yes, indeed I was referring to the N66. I'm assuming the settings for N56 should be the same as N66. I did get voice initially but after meddling with lots of combinations, voice also disappear.
Desperate, so have to tap into this N56 thread.
The thing that bothers me is that it says in the asus homepage there is internet connection. I can also ping Yahoo! Singapore The icon on my desktop taskbar also shows there is internet connection.
Really frustrating....
Given my lack of knowledge, I think most likely, it is an error on my part.

oic, thanks for pointing out...

Yeah, try the power on/off things tomorrow.

Nothing need to be set on HG256 since all ports cannot be used for internet, but if you really want, set it to different subnet

HG LAN setting: 192.168.2.100 and start IP 192.168.2.101

If all else failed, gotta wait for new firmware or someone with N66U & M1 fibre to advise you...

I've tried the above power off cycle and still cannot browse internet though I can get the voice to work.
Below are screen shots of my settings.
If there are certain settings that must be the same between asus and hg, please let me know.

If all fails, try to see if weap0nx is free to come down to your place and sniff your packets. There is a possibility that Asus made a mistake in the M1-Fiber preset for the N66U.

It'll be great if weap0nx can help out. I'll drop him a PM to see if he is free to sniff the packets. Thanks.

@reframe,

One last try while waiting for weap0nx to help :

Under LAN->Basic Config
-> Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1

Under LAN->DNS/WINS Settings
-> DNS server : 8.8.8.8

Connect your desktop to N66U's port 1, 2 & 4 to test.

Tried the above settings but no luck. Also, did the full power off for 3 devices. By the way, I tried to put the Asus behind HG and followed the settings provided by Zhou/marineX. Also no internet but voice is ok. I still there is something I am doing wrong.

I suggest you re-do step by step to make sure BOTH N66U & HG256 worked individually.

1) Make sure that with only HG256 direct behind ONT, both voice and internet worked.

2a) Reset the N66U to factory default and just change the ISP Profile to "M1-Fiber.
b) Turn off ONT and connect only the N66U direct behind ONT.
c) Turn on the ONT, wait 2-3 min then turn on N66U.
d) Check that internet worked.

After 1 & 2 confirmed working, you may then connect

ONT->N66U->HG256

and check if everything worked as expected.

Thanks, I will try that out tomorrow if no one in family is using internet.

Case 1 works and is what I am using now.

Case 2 I thought won't work at all because I have M1 voice so I did not try. I thought that regardless, I must have HG connected be it before or after 3rd party router. Or is it the case that I can still connect ONT to any router and exclude HG except that I won't have voice?

Thanks.

With M1-Fiber preset turn on, internet should work (except on port 3 )when connecting N66U directly behind ONT regardless whether HG256 is connected behind it or not unless the preset on N66U was not configured correctly by Asus.

Other 3rd party routers worked only if you signup without voice.

Just finished testing.
Case 1 works
Case 2, standalone N66 (without HG) with M1 presets still cannot work.

Oh... then most probably problem lied with M1 preset. There's another N66U owner reported having same problem as you in this thread.

May be you should create a new thread to discuss on this issue.
BTW, new firmware is out : Version 3.0.0.3.108.

Yes, the M1 preset is not working. Able to get voip working only. Port 1,2,4 able to connect to internet and do a ping but cannot surf.

So we both now have a 'black' elephant.
Potential buyers take note not to purchase N66 for the time being until this preset issue for M1 is resolved. There are a bunch of very helpful people working to get the information to Asus.
