I'm really interested in getting it. As it will be my first tablet and e-reader (other
than my iphone), I have some burning questions.
1: Amazon doesn't ship to Singapore. How are you guys buying it?
2: Will we be able to use the 3G version in Singapore?
3: I saw that it only has 2GB of storage space, or 1.45GB for user content. Will that be a real problem in the long run? What are your thoughts, people who use e-readers regularly?
4: Is there a huge difference between the version that has advertisements and the version which is ad-free? Anyone has any experience with the ads? Will they be "ïn your face" or easily ignored?
5: From what i read, books are downloaded through Amazon. Will I able to put my pdf books in it?
Thanks for your time.

Are you talking about the Paperwhite? If so, it's not a tablet (and shouldn't be assumed to have the functions of a tablet). There are 2 very different approaches to e-reading: specialised eInk readers, and the LCD-type tablets, say iPad or Galaxy Tabs..
For 4), no problems with ads at all. They are totally uninstrusive.
There quite a number of importers in the electronics bazaar in hwz, look for those amazon sprees.
I bought the ads with wifi only version as i usually convert and upload my own ebooks (a few seconds to convert and upload a book), and the ad version actually give a good aesthetic feel to the device.
No issues with storage as i can easily upload or remove the books i want (yes, even pdfs, and the process works like a thumb drive).
For those with pdf pro reader, you can even highlight the pdf text in the kindle after a OCR conversion. Hope this helps.
1. Use a shipping service like comgateway or vpost
2. My friend's Kindle Keyboard 3G works in Singapore
3. If you're just reading books it shouldn't be a problem. Only when you start loading PDF textbooks will it fill up really fast. Normal novels should be no problem at all
4. My other friend who's got a Kindle Touch didn't register with Amazon (he sideloads his books) and TADA no ads at all
5. Yes, you can sideload PDFs
Thanks for replying! I think I'm getting the wifi-only version too. I'm curious as to what do you mean by "the ad version actually give a good aesthetic feel to the device.", care to elaborate haha?
I've read that the ads only come up fullscreen in screensaver mode/ sleep and as a little banner while browsing through your library. I'd like to ask if the screensaver ads drain your battery? Am I able to customize the screensaver if I decide to get a non-ads supported version?
Unless Amazon changed it in the paperwhite version, a small ad should appear below the home page, it disappears during reading and looks interesting also.
Just to add, the ads will "refresh" itself everytime you have a wifi connection. I usually switch off wifi most of the time, unless I want another ebook from my dropbox account.
Hope this helps,
Nope, zip power used when in sleep mode, the picture will stay there "forever", that's the magic of eink. e-readers using eink only use power when there is a page refresh e.g. a page turn or a change in the image displayed. You can only customize it with jailbreak, I think.
Works almost like this, but more hi-tech and sophisticated. You have to see it first though.
Thanks for replying! Yup im talking about the paperwhite version. i suppose it should be called an e-reader then haha? Also, do the ads still appear even when you are not connected to the internet?
Thanks!
Definitely should call it an e-reader. (Not a tablet.) The ads are fine, all of them are tastefully done, and you can actually use them sometimes. (eg. Spend $5 on gift cards and get $10 instead!) By the time these types of offers add up in the course of usage, it's actually worth quite a lot of 'money'.
This video needs to be seen... 4 years of R&D!
is it worthwhile just to buy the kindle paperwhite leather case and ship it via CGW?
Amazon's cases, IMO, give the best fit for their Kindles, without adding too much bulk. Speaking from playing with my friend's Kindle Touch. However, it's much cheaper if you buy from taobao or sth.

personally, there is no diff between wifi version and 3g version. my friend has the 3g version which is a little harder (just a little), and in all honesty, she rarely uses the 3g..
loving my kindle touch, don't think i will upgrade so soon. 2gb is a little turn off, considering that the old touch has 4gb..
then again, the paperwhite technology is so cool! if you have not gotten a kindle, its time to get one.. and after reading tons of books on the ipad (which my eyes hurts big time due to the backlit), it was such a great relief reading on the kindle.. so yes, kindle ftw!
lol... i just gotten my kindle touch a few days ago...and my finger got itchy with the paperwhite technology... thinking if i should
