Ok thanks. Cuz i am wondering if i should go for summer or sep.

If go for summer can clear 3 mods then overload one sem and grad one semester early. Cost approx 8k-3.5k due to early grad.

If go for sep may not even be able to map all 5 mods over due to statistics core and also had to overload for a semester too.

But if start the honors project one semester earlier, will the prof be available? What about the final presentation which normally takes place in semester 2?

You can also spread the 3 mods over your remaining sems, so you may have to take up to 7 mods per sem. Whether it is manageable or not, it depends on your CAP(department approval for overloading), your ability and your planning. You do not pay extra fee for overloading.

Also, if 8k bothers u, think about how if you graduate 5 months earlier, you can be out in the workforce earning 5*(monthly salary), which should be able to cover the 8k fee. SEP probably cost more than 8k. If you are so keen on travel, you may also apply for an oversea job

If you are looking for some specific prof, you have to check with them. There may be some hot prof, but you will also face more competition in sem 1. some hot prof may also be unavailable for pick in sem 1 but sem 2 due to them being oversea, supervising sem 2 project etc. there would be stats prof to go around to supervise your hons project in sem 2. If you start your prof in sem 2, then you will have your final presentation in sem 1.

starting project in sem 2 is rare, but there are still people who do it. it would be less structured, so the department would not generate a list of possible projects. you get your project when u discuss with the prof, or you can self propose your project.

This post has long been gone eh? But I want to ask a few questions. Does stats involve math a lot? Is it a very competitive major up to now? thanks.

some math modules are unavoidable, but the curriculum only consists of few such mods. it was quite competitive due to large number of foreigners who tended to do really well. at least that was the case before I grad 2 years ago.

now sure how the new data sci course affect stats maj now.

Is it really hard to get into? And is it true that it's very competitive, even more than any other majors?

Also, when applying for statistics, did you immediately choose stats with specialisation in finance considering you wanted to be an actuary?
