Sony has confirmed that it will shortly release the Xperia Z4 Tablet. The device has made an appearance on the official Xperia Lounge application, before being swiftly pulled. We do not know the full specs of the device, but the screenshot confirms it will have a 2K display, “the latest ultra fast processor” and “industry leading battery performance”.

The design looks very similar to the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, so what we may see is a 10-inch version with 2K screen. Interestingly, the date on the app of 3 March 2015 pretty much confirms that the Xperia Z4 Tablet will make an appearance at MWC next week. We expect Sony to announce what it has up its sleeve on Monday 2 March 2015.

Sony Mobile is currently running a competition on Facebook for an “exclusive mystery prize package”. Sony says that it is excited “to give you a glimpse of our latest innovations and welcome the newest member of the Xperia family.”

However, it is the teaser picture that is interesting showing what looks like a keyboard accessory that could be designed for the Xperia Z4 Tablet. If the rumours of a larger tablet are true, then there is every chance that Sony may try to position the tablet as a quasi-laptop with the right accessories. We will find out for sure on Monday 2 March at MWC.

Update: Sony has now officially teased the same image with the words: “Are you ready for a new way of working?” This pretty much confirms a new keyboard accessory is on its way for the new Sony tablet.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet vs Google Nexus 9: What's the difference? - Pocket-lint

Conclusion

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet and the Google Nexus 9 both bring their own strengths to the party. The Xperia Z4 Tablet is slimmer, lighter, waterproof and features a bigger display while the Nexus 9 has a smaller footprint overall, along with a sharper screen and a sand colour offering if you don't fancy black or white.

Both have an 8-megapixel rear camera so there shouldn't be too much difference here, but the Xperia Z4 Tablet ups the ante when it comes to the front-facing snapper in terms of megapixels and software.

Looking at hardware, both have powerful processors on board, but the Xperia Z4 Tablet offers more RAM support and microSD support to expand the 32GB internal memory, while the Nexus 9 gives you a maximum of 32GB and once it is full, it's full. The HTC-designed device will last a little longer though, with a 700mAh bigger battery capacity than the Xperia Z4 Tablet.

They are near enough neck-in-neck and your decision will more than likely boil down to what is most important to you. Both have a nice design but the Sony is waterproof, which is always handy if you do fancy playing a game or watching a movie in the bath and there are some software benefits with the Sony, including the PS4 Remote Play. Battery life is theoretically better on the Nexus 9, as is the slightly smaller display but for the selfie taker - the Xperia Z4 Tablet is probably the winner. Overall, we suspect you'll be happy with either.

Sony-BKB50-Bluetooth-Keyboard_1-640x434.jpg

Sony-BKB50-Bluetooth-Keyboard_2-640x408.jpg

Sony has announced the Bluetooth Keyboard BKB50 for the Xperia Z4 Tablet. The keyboard has a special hinge that allows the tablet to easily dock with the tablet. The docking station allows the tablet to be ‘closed’ shut just like a real laptop. It also has a 0-130 degree tilt to find that comfortable viewing angle.

When it is docked, Sony has introduced a special quick application launcher on the tablet (similar to the Windows Start menu) so that you can check your recent apps. The keyboard has an integrated touchpad, NFC for pairing and switches for the power button and Bluetooth.

The keyboard has a 430 mAh battery, good for a one-month battery according to Sony (typing 2 hours/day) and can be recharged using a micro USB port. A battery indicator light is also included to let you know if you’re about to run out of power. The BKB50 Bluetooth Keyboard is relatively lightweight at 383 grams and seems like a great solution for the power users out there.

Sony Does A Tablet With An Add On Bluetooth Keyboard | TechCrunch

Meanwhile the Xperia Z4 tablet, which has a Snapdragon 810 octa-core 64-bit chip, harks back to Sony’s PC making days — thanks to an add-on keyboard accessory. A Sony rep told TechCrunch that former Vaio staff worked on the optional Bluetooth keyboard accessory for the tablet, called the SCR32 perfect fit cover.

The keyboard includes dedicated physical keys for the Android tablet’s on-screen navigation touch-keys, along with a built-in touchpad, so there’s no need to touch the screen when using the device in this quasi-laptop mode. With the keyboard attached, the Z4 could pass for a plastic-y Sony Vaio.

Sony is touting the thinness and lightness of the Z4, which is just 6.1mm thick and between 389g and 393g (Wi-Fi only and LTE versions, respectively). Construction is a mix of plastic, stainless steel reinforcing at the corners and mineral glass.

It’s also pushing the entertainment angle, with a 2K display, High Res Audio, digital noise canceling, front-facing stereo speakers and a beefed up battery that’s good for up to 17 hours of video playback. There’s an 8MP rear camera and a wide-angle 5.1MP front lens — targeting selfie takers and video calls.

Also on board: waterproofing and dust-resistance (to IP68). It’s not the first time Sony has added waterproofing to a tablet. Last year’s Z2 was also proofed against dropping in the bath, mid-movie.
