Mechanical watches will still have their own "class". The fact that you are leaving your omega behind and changing to an Apple watch is probably a downgrade in the eyes of Swiss watch enthusiasts. Unless of course you are wearing the gold edition Apple Watch.
Also wearing the Apple Watch will become a common sight when everyone on the planet seems wearing one. The feeling of exclusiveness is no longer there.
Think you will lose steam soon and go back to your Omega. :)

Owning the Apple Watch for almost 2 months now, I am seriously getting bored. Guess you guys are still new on the boat.

Own it for two months too. Still find it fun. I also put my other watchss aside. Another vote that mechanical watches are passé already. I have Rolexes and I think we all agree that the whole planet also wearing one so I don't think your argument holds v well.

Comparing Apple Watch with a mechanical watch is like trying to compare a chicken to a duck. Both are different and speaks different languages. They only have one thing in common and that is they both tell time, the similarities stop there. Anything and everything else is different, so please stop comparing them. How about we start comparing the Apple Watch with Pebble Time? This is a more logical comparision if you ask me. Just my $0.02...

My question was really intended to be quite straightforward. If u already have a collection of nice mechanical watches which u are wearing on a daily basis. And u buy the apple watch and wear, what are u going to do about your mechanical watches? I still love them but wearing two watches is dumb and not wearing apple watch daily also defeats the purpose.

Is apple trying to make the apple watch a substitute for watches we wear? Or to supplement? I rather it the later, eg the galaxy gear fit by Samsung was something rather cool cos I could wear it on my right Hhand while my regular mechanical watch sits on my left.

It's like having two cars, one is just a manual car with no special features, no aircon and takes you from point A to B. The other car has auto gear, built in GPS, Audio system, the works and it also takes you from point A to B. Would you be able to drive both cars at the same time? No right? Hope I answered your question.

It depends on your intention in using the device.

I took a brief look at the galaxy gear fit and if it could be a substitute to your watch if you wish it to (it can tell time like how a watch does) but you didn't. Instead you wore a watch and the gear fit out together.

So the question is why can't you do the same with the apple watch too? Because it is bigger? Because of the name Apple Watch?

I guess it's more a first world problem

For me, knowing that it will not be a substitute for regular watch but somehow still decided to buy the Apple watch anyways, that's the power of Apple's branding and marketing.

Because it looks silly wearing two watches out. The gear fit is more discreet and is halfway between a fitness band and a watch.

If you ordered from Apple online store and it is still within 14days, I suggest you return it or ask for a change of model. I think you got a lemon...
after an hour on the phone with 3 staff (one apple support staff, one senior adviser, one product specialist), Apple finally agreed to give me a replacement unit.

GOSH. Two days of bouncing b/w service centre and apple online support. one of the worst experiences ever.

my rolexes are on the mechanical watch winders...think not many people can carry off wearing 2 watches :o but who knows...some already have bracelets etc on one hand and watch on the other

That being said you could wear the watches in different scenarios. e.g. for work, you might want the Apple watch which can help you stay organised or to handle checking notifications in a professional context. At social events then maybe the traditional watch might be a better choice. If I was doing say my wedding photo shoot, I don't think I'd want to wear an Apple watch in that (except for the fact my fiance bought me mine and I bought her hers).

As someone who used to own multiple cars- I had the Evo for racing on the track and a Civic for daily driving to the shops/etc. The Evo was uncomfortable, drank petrol quickly and attracted a lot of attention... and had a small boot. In other words, horses for courses.

Have we got any stores on the island selling Apple Watch accessories yet? Still trying to find a place I can see other band options or cases.
