From deadline.com:
If Warner Bros execs needed some good news after a rough summer, they sure got some. The studio just announced that it is setting a July 21, 2017, release date for Christopher Nolan’s next, as yet unidentified movie. The studio has world rights, as it has had with all of Nolan’s recent pictures except for Interstellar, which it shared with Paramount.

When Jeff Robinov left Warner Bros to start his new shingle Studio 8 at Sony with money from China, the challenge for Greg Silverman and Sue Kroll was to keep Nolan in the fold. Same as with some other director relationships including Ben Affleck, whose film Argo won Best Picture. Well, they studio hass kept both of those cornerstone filmmakers. Nolan now is committed to making that next movie for Warner Bros, and Affleck — who’s next directing Live By Night for Warners — is co-writing a stand-alone Batman movie he’ll hopefully direct, and he’s playing that iconic role in Batman V Superman and Justice League. The next order of business will be for Nolan to reveal what that big project is. From the Dark Knight Trilogy to Inception and Interstellar, you know it’s likely to be big, with a complex plot and the kind of global potential that has been his trademark at Warner Bros.

From movieweb.com:
Fans of Katsuhiro Otomo's manga Akira have been waiting several years for this project to arrive on the silver screen, but there has been very little progress since the movie was first put into development way back in 2002. A number of filmmakers have been attached since then, with the latest being Jaume Collet-Serra. But he dropped out of the project back in June. Today we have a new, unconfirmed report from Den Of Geek, which claims that Christopher Nolan could be making Akira his next directorial project, which will be the first in an Akira trilogy.

Just last week, we reported that Warner Bros. has set a July 21, 2017 release date for Christopher Nolan's next film, although no title or story details were given. The site claims that Akira may be this mystery movie set for the summer of 2017, since the filmmaker reportedly met with an unidentified filmmaker who was formerly attached to direct Akira, over the past three months. The site also speculates that it's possible Christopher Nolan could only be coming aboard to produce, like he did with 2013's Man of Steel.

We reported in June that Marvel's Daredevil showrunner Marco Ramirez signed on to take over the writing duties on Akira. Dante Harper (Edge of Tomorrow) had previously been attached to write the screenplay. Over the years, there have been several delays on the project, but it came close to starting production in 2012, when Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Ken Watanabe and Helena Bonham Carter were in negotiations to join the cast. The project eventually fell apart over casting, budget and script issues.

The original manga is set in Neo-Tokyo, centering on two members in a biker gang, Kaneda and Tetsuo, who become bitter rivals when one develops amazing telekinetic powers. The manga was originally a six-volume comic, so a movie trilogy would certainly make it easier to put as much of this beloved story on the big screen as possible. Leonardo DiCaprio has long been attached to produce through his Appian Way production company. The report on Christopher Nolan's 2017 mystery movie didn't indicate whether he was writing the script himself, which could be a sign that this mystery project is in fact Akira. While Marco Ramirez is working on the current script draft, if this does turn out to be Christopher Nolan's project, the writer-director would certainly take a crack at the script himself.

From movieweb.com:

Over the weekend, it was heavily rumored that Christopher Nolan's next movie will be set during World War II and is based on a true story. Now, Variety reports that is true.

The action-thriller, which is set for release in July 2017, is titled Dunkirk and will take the director to France. Christopher Nolan is directing Dunkirk from his own original screenplay. The cast is said to be made up of mostly unknowns, with no casting locked in yet. The supporting cast will likely center around Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh, all of whom are currently said to be in talks for the project. Christopher Nolan is producing the project with longtime partner Emma Thomas.

Based on real events, the story behind Dunkirk takes place during WWI, and is set during the historical evcecauation of the Northern French City. Christopher Nolan and his team have already begun casting teenagers in London for the main roles. The director is said to have wanted to lock down the select adult roles before the Christmas holiday, but the trio mentioned above has not been confirmed by Warner Bros. Studios at this time. Creative Development and Worldwide Production Greg Silverman had this to say about the movie. "We are thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Christopher Nolan, a singular filmmaker who has created some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful films of all time. Dunkirk is a gripping and powerful story and we are excited to see Chris, Emma and their cast realize it on the big screen."

Dunkirk will be a large-scale production. The director will be shooting the movie using a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large format film. Christopher Nolan wants maximum image quality, and high-impact immersion in telling his next story. Dunkirk begins shooting in May, and will utilize many of the real locations where this true piece of war history happened.

I know that all the Shaw IMAX theatres are digital only. But anybody knows which aspect ratio does will they be showing Dunkirk in ?

1.43:1 or 1.91:1 ?

If 1.91:1 , then I won't waste money on IMAX and just watch it in a regular cinema.
