FOOTBALL: HUGHES' MAC BID
Jul 10 2005
Alan Nixon
BLACKBURN boss Mark Hughes STILL wants another striker - but he will have to sell before he can buy, writes ALAN NIXON.
Hughes is keen to snatch South African Benni McCarthy or old boy Andy Cole despite landing Craig Bellamy in a breathtaking deal.
The Rovers chief wants Porto to drop their £6million valuation on McCarthy and knows Cole can leave Fulham for nothing but comes with big wages.
Hughes will take one or the other if he can, but chairman John Williams has told him to shift out two or three players first.
Williams admitted: "It's time to look at trading. We've got quite a big squad now. There may well be some comings and goings."

I wont mind either McCarthy or Cole on board, but after splashing 5million on Bellamy, i doubt we have money still to buy McCarthy. Cole should be availlable around half a million. He will good enough for us.

hmm... Bellemy, Kuqi, Dickov, Gallagher, Jansen with maybe Cole and (unlikely) McCarthy coming in. jansen signed a 1-yr deal, gallagher has potential... i got a feeling that dickov might be shipped out. oh boy, might as well 'cos he doesn't link up well with other strikers.
Tugay, McEveley, Gray and Thompson run out of contract in 2006. Thompson would fetch $, but i'd hate to see him go.
There's news that Douglas was going.. Amoruso's a poor signing by Souness, but dun think anyone wants to buy him (and comes with inflated wages) ...haiiiz...

Tugay can stay for one more season. His experience will be vital, he's still our most inventive midfielder i feel. McEveley is still young, he will slowly move up the ranks. As for Thompson, though i hate to see him go, if there's a nice offer of 2-3 million bid for him, Hughes should consider letting him go.

IT'S not like me to make wild predictions but I'm going to chance it today. In fact, I'm not going to make one prediction, but two. Prediction One. Blackburn Rovers will finish in the top six in the Premiership next season. Prediction Two. By doing so Rovers will become the most unpopular team in this country since Leeds United were trampling opponents into submission 30 years ago.

oh well, we might need to look for another righback as lucas' cover. :( tot could get him on loan and hughes rated him highly.
Craig Bellamy insists he can fulfil his dreams of Champions League football at Blackburn. (http://www.teamtalk.com/teamtalk/News/Story_Page/0,7760,2483_567181,00.html)
The Welsh striker turned down the chance of an immediate European adventure with Everton to link up with Rovers boss Mark Hughes.
And Bellamy feels his new club are capable of grabbing fourth place in the Premiership despite their relative struggle last season.
"I want to play in the Champions League. I want to play in Europe and I bet everyone here does as well," he told the club's official website.
"If I can do that with Blackburn then we've both won.
"We can certainly get into Europe, everything is so wide open from the bottom place to fourth spot that anyone can get it."
any euro spot is gd enarf for me! It's amazing how 1 signing changes everything. :)

Hughes: Rovers are serious
Mark Hughes believes the signing of Craig Bellamy is "a notice of intent" that Blackburn are serious about mounting a challenge for Europe.
Rovers snapped up the 25-year-old striker in a £4m deal from Newcastle at the end of last week.
And Hughes believes the capture of the Wales international is proof that Rovers are determined to claim a Uefa Cup place at least come the end of the season.
The Ewood boss told the Lancashre Evening Telegraph: "Hopefully at the end of the year, we can.
"That's the measure of our ambition, we want to get into Europe this year, and I think with a player of Craig's undoubted ability we have an opportunity to do that now.
"It's a notice of intent, we're not going to stand still, we're going to keep pushing the club forward.
"It's certainly my intention to try and make Blackburn Rovers the best they can be.
"We need to attract players of the quality of Craig Bellamy and we've been able to do it and I think that has sent a message to everybody.
"Maybe in the past we have kept expectations low, and maybe that's easier when you're in a position as a manager because then you can over-achieve, but I think it's time to extend ourselves and raise expectations and get people excited by what's happening here."

Cole still an option
BLACKBURN Rovers are still interested in signing Andy Cole this summer - but the former Manchester United striker would have to take a pay cut to make an Ewood return possible.
Rovers boss Mark Hughes has already bolstered his strike-force with the signings of Craig Bellamy and Shefki Kuqi during the last couple of weeks, but he hasn't ruled out adding another forward to his squad before the transfer window slams shut at the end of next month and Cole would fit the bill if he was allowed to leave Fulham on a free.
The 33-year-old is thought to be keen on a return and he still has a house in the north west, despite quitting Rovers for Fulham on a free 12 months ago.
However, Cole is one of the highest earners at Craven Cottage and he would have to agree to take a significant drop in wages to make him affordable to Hughes, who's working to a tight budget following his £4 million capture of Bellamy.
Ideally, Hughes would like to sign a versatile defender and another keeper before the season kicks off on August 13, but he's been told he will have to sell before he can buy again.
There is still scope to sign players on frees, though, and Hughes is open to the idea of making a swoop for someone like Cole, providing it's financially viable.
"It's a case of seeing what we can do," said the Rovers boss.
"Opportunities will present themselves over time and we'll have to access where we are."
In the meantime, Rovers have ruled out the possibility of resurrecting their interest in Porto striker Benni McCarthy.
Hughes had two separate bids rejected for the South African international earlier in the summer and after signing Bellamy, he no longer has the funds available to pursue that interest with Porto looking for £6 million for the 27-year-old.

Yeah! Old King Cole. I will welcome him back with open arms!
But hope Hughes aint just focusing on his attack alone. Seems like no news that we are getting new defenders or new midfielders in.
We probably be sticking to Emerton, MGP, Savage and Reid. Seems a little lightweight?

FOOTBALL SPY: COLEMAN IN A RAGE OVER COLE
By Steve Rogers
FULHAM boss Chris Coleman has blasted Blackburn for unsettling top striker Andy Cole.
The former Manchester United star was Fulham's top scorer last season and is being chased by Rovers - even though they let him leave on a free transfer just one year ago.
Ewood Park chief executive John Williams spoke out on television recently and expressed his interest to re-sign Cole.
And their interest is still continuing despite the addition of top Wales striker Craig Bellamy.

Latest on the TEKKE transfer is that Blackburn Rovers are willing to pay 5 milion eoros for Fatih Tekke and they offered him 1.75 milion euro a year. But there are more then 10 teams who are after him.
Fatih is waiting for his possible replacement from Brasil. If Trabzonspor fails to find replacement then Fatih will stay at Trabzonspor.
Fatih was on Turkish tv last night. He said that the most serious offer so far came from Blackburn via tugay kerimoglu! But, he also said that there was no official contact so far. He also said that after the official offer arrives, he will discuss it with the officials.
It is thought that his contract extension is set-up with a clause that will allow him to transfer abroad.

Ferencvaros starlets Bence Somodi and Gabor Gremsperger are heading to England.
Both are goalkeepers and are very highly rated, but financial problems at Ferencvaros mean they cannot reject any offers.
Somodi is aged just 16, but he has already attracted Premiership interest as Blackburn Rovers close on his signature.
Rovers officials are now due in Hungary to finalise the details of Somodi's prospective move to Ewood Park.
Somodi is believed to have impressed Mark Hughes's scouts in recent months.
Gremsperger, a year older than Somodi, is due in England for a trial with Stoke.
The 17-year-old will stay at The Britannia Stadium until mid-August before seeing whether he has done enough to earn a move to The Potters.

DESPITE adding two new players to his squad over the summer, Mark Hughes insists he is still on the lookout for further additions.
Craig Bellamy and Shefki Kuqi have been brought in to add much-needed options to the forward line, and if the opportunity arises, Hughes will want to increase the quality of the squad.
"We hope for opportunities to bring more players in. It's not finished yet until the window closes," said the manager.
"Sometimes opportunities come and you are able to get more quality into the football club, and we'll continue to look while the window is open."

Mark Hughes says his Blackburn Rovers squad are in great shape and is confident that they will be battling at the right end of the table this season.
Rovers struggled to avoid relegation last term and only secured their Premiership safety with a handful of games remaining.
However, having brought in several new faces this summer, Hughes says Rovers will be challenging in the top half of the table as soon as the new campaign gets underway on August 13.
"We are in a situation where we think we can kick on now," Hughes told the club's official website.
"It was a difficult season last year because when you come into a new club certain things are in place that you feel you want to change and that takes time.
"Fair play to the players last year, they were absolutely superb and we've got the benefit of that work that we've put into them, so we certainly feel that this season we are going to have a very good season.
"We've added to the squad with quality up front and that has given a buzz to the place.
"I think the players have benefited from just training with the players we have brought in and you can see that in their eyes they know we are going to be more of an attacking threat this year."

Nope, Todd and Nelson are first choice centre back, Neill is first choice right back.
Emerton will take the right, Reid (based on his pre season friendlies form) and hopefully Tugay will take center mid and Pederson will take the left.

MANAGER Mark Hughes delivered the news that every Rovers fan was hoping to hear when he revealed that the injury to Matt Jansen was not a serious as was first feared.
When the popular striker went down in agony following a collision with goalkeeper Idriss Kameni, it didn't look good for Jansen, but thankfully that doesn't appear to be the case.
"We are touching wood at the moment, but we think he's OK," said Hughes exclusively on Radio Rovers after the game.
"It was a terrible challenge, pre-season friendlies are supposed to be for the benefit of both teams, its a chance to play your football and get your fitness, but I think they came with entirely the wrong attitude towards the game. I just thought it was a poor challenge, but thankfully we hope Matty is ok.
"I did fear for the boy but it looks like he's got away with it and thankfully so. He'll be sore tomorrow but it looks like he's got away with it."
The game fell flat after Jansen was stretchered off, but Rovers already had the game wrapped up.
"There's no harm in scoring goals, so we are pleased with that," said Hughes. "Shefki will have benefitted form scoring two goals at Ewood.
"There are things we can take out of the game, but not as much as we had hoped before the whistle this afternoon."
---
phew~! now let's hope jansen can return to his pre-accident form this season.. hope to see him play more regularly.

Then came Todd's fiery moment which appears certain to earn him belated FA censure if he is found to have connected with Reid - and Neill's challenge which brought Rovers their second red card of the season.

actually this also brings the question is there really any discipline instilled in the team?
that time when souness was manager, neil was already a 'bad' boy and we all know souness is a no nonsense manager and yet everything seems to remain the same.
not sure if hughes will be able to do much to the situation. i guess players have to learn to have some common sense. we have to give credit to defenders who really go all out and defend in the game like fighting for their lives but still what we want are the 'thinking' defender, not those gungho defenders who keeps getting cards like some throphy collection

there are many players that plays with passion without supidity.if rovers r going to end the game here and there with just 10 men, suspension after suspensions, and if punishments such as pts deduction are intro, it will be another tough season ahead. its a little selfish to ppl who tries so hard to play. ppl like pedersen and nelsen who came in and wants to play, with lots of passion and they made differences. its like how would u feel when ur team ur playing in is controlling the match until stupidity steps in,one gets sent off and u more defensive/end up losing the game. last yr against man utd amoruso sent off and became a draw. amoruso was so remorseful.i felt if the 1st XI is able to keep playing it would be a better season ahead. with thompson, jansen yet to come.
another thing is y 2 footed challenges? its a suicide. 2 reds cards and both are 2 footed challenges. rovers cant afford this all the time. say desperate to win the ball or stop a suituation, but doesnt it makes it worst by being sent off? such as the 2 footed by dickov against WH. y not try get the ball later instead of rushing in and end ur game early when we all know every min in football anything can happen. even if its not going to happen, thers always next time. only rightback in neill and playing someone out of position is not good even though they r able to play there too. dickov is always arguing with the ref together with savage and we all know its useless.
edit: anyway i think this is funny. :D grow bao

Blackburn Rovers have signed highly-rated Watford goalkeeper Richard Lee on a year-long loan, with the option to make the deal permanent next summer.
The 22-year-old is surplus to requirements at Vicarage Road following the arrival of Manchester United youngster Ben Foster on loan and jumped at the chance to link up with ex-Hornets goalkeeping coach Kevin Hitchcock at Ewood Park.
Lee will provide competition to Rovers' regular number one Brad Friedel and boss Mark Hughes is looking forward to seeing what he can do.
"We've been looking for an extra goalkeeper and while we could have gone for a stop-gap, we are trying to build the club and felt a young lad with promise was the better option," Hughes told the club's official website.
"He'll get the chance to train with us and work with the likes of Brad which can only be good."
If Lee, who has made 37 League appearances for Watford, impresses, Rovers will be able to buy him for an initial fee of £500,000, which could rise by a further £250,000 depending on appearances.

Mark Hughes was furious with Lucas Neill after he added to Blackburn Rovers' disciplinary problems by being sent off during Wednesday's goalless draw against Tottenham.
Neill picked up a second yellow card of the night for a poorly-timed lunge at Edgar Davids 14 minutes from time and Hughes felt the Australian's dismissal was avoidable.
He said: "It was an ill-advised challenge given he already had a yellow card.
"Lucas made a genuine attempt to get the ball but the momentum took him through the player and the guy ended up in a heap on the floor - if you've had one yellow you're likely to get another."
Rovers central defender Andy Todd could also find himself in trouble with the Football Association after appearing to head-butt Andy Reid.
The referee did not spot the incident, but Tottenham coach Martin Jol complained: "Blackburn were very aggressive - the evidence is Andy Reid has a big lump on his forehead.
"You can see it on the television. Sometimes in games like this you get a bit excited and Todd was a bit excited, otherwise I cannot understand this sort of action."
Hughes insisted he had not seen the clash and refused to comment directly on Todd's actions.
He added: "I've got players with lumps as well but I'm not going to stand here and defend something I can't really pass comment on until I've seen the pictures and spoken to the boy."
The controversy detracted from a solid performance by Rovers who outplayed the in-form Londoners for much of the game, leaving Hughes to wonder why they had only managed to collect one point.
"I think we were the better side for the whole evening," said the Welshman. "The only time we really came under pressure was the last ten minutes when we were down to ten men."

27/08/05 15:00 Villa Park
http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/index.php?showtopic=12570
Three games into the season, a win, a loss and the Spurs result means that we are above the big team (Brum) and the clarets, no not Arsenal but Villa whom we meet on Saturday.
The season so far for Villa, started with a 2-2 draw against Bolton. It was a frantic start at Villa Park where by the time Chris Kamara had shouted “Unbelievable!” four goals had been scored. They then lost narrowly 1-0 to Manchester United last Saturday and on Tuesday they had a game against Pompey, in which they had Nobby Solano sent off in a 1-1 draw. This means he maybe missing for the game against us, pending an appeal.
In the transfer window so far Villa have brought in a few solid players to enhance a somewhat ‘small honest bunch of lads’ that O’Leary seems to mention every Saturday in the post match interview. He has brought in Phillips in place of Vassell, Berger in place of Hitzelsperger, Milan Baros to replace the on loan Carlton Cole and Stuart Taylor in place of Stefan Postma he has also brought in Aaron Hughes as an extra player.
At the time of writing, Physioroom.com reports that Berger, Delaney, Samuel and Laursen all have injuries that could keep them out of the Rovers game. Hendrie will possibly be back from suspension and may come in to replace Davis.
Now we all like to predict the outcome of the match and I’m no different. I am going to attempt to use the SOS method, bear with me – Statistics, opinion and simulation (doesn’t involve diving) to try and find an outcome for the match .

The last time Rovers played on the 27th of August we won 4-0 against Coventry City 11 years ago; meanwhile Aston Villa was drawing 1-1 with Crystal Palace. That season Rovers beat Villa away with A Hendry header and 3-1 at home with Shearer grabbing a brace. Rovers went on to finish champions with Villa down in 18th and one place outside the relegation zone.
Out of the 22 games since the Premiership started, the Lancashire side have won 11 games with Villa winning 7 and the other 4 being draws.
The goals scoring overall is a massive difference. 31 goals for the blues compared to the clarets 19 goals in 22 games.
Matches held at Villa Park have equal with 5 wins a piece and the solitary draw back in 92-93 season. However at Villa Park, Rovers have scored 11 whereas Villa has only managed the 10 goals.
Last season it was Aston Villa’s midfield scoring 22 only ten less than the whole of the Rovers squad with 32. They also managed to overturn a first half defeat and convert it into a win on two occasions. If each game finished a half time Aston Vila would now be playing Championship football and Rovers would have finished 11th last year. This is because 2/3 of Villa’s goals conceded were conceded in the first half of games.
Nobby Solano and Juan Pablo Angel were the top scorers for Villa with 9, however this was still less than Dickov with ten who is suspended for the trip to the Midlands club. Another fact was that Andy Todd scored Blackburn’s 600th premiership goal against West Ham.
Looking at the statistics overall it is clear that Rovers have the upper hand on Villa and is why this section results in a Rovers Win.

Hughes said: 'We will miss Lucas because we haven't really got any natural cover at right-back. It has been something I have been trying to address all summer.
'You need cover and competition in all areas and Lucas hasn't really had anyone pushing him but unfortunately we have not been able to bring anyone in in that position yet.'
Hughes has a number of options including reverting Steven Reid back to the full-back role or moving Dominic Matteo and handing the vacant left-back berth to Vratislav Gresko.
One thing he certainly hopes for is no imminent disruption to his increasingly effective centre-back pairing of Todd and Ryan Nelsen which has conceded just one goal in the last two games.
'They work well together, they're a good pair and we hope that they will be fit and well for the weekend,' added Hughes. 'Andy had to come off against Spurs with a kick to his ankle and we don't know the extent of that yet.'

i am not sooo much worried on the defence ... but i am kinda worried on the attack ... that has always been our problem .... i honestly prefer tugay to savage anyday ... tugay is more creative ... and savage ... i rest my case .... watched the spurs game .. impressive .. but the decisive touch .. no one man ... aston villa ... i hope its a win for rovers ... but i settle for a draw which probably will be ...

for spurs game jansen was on the bench so hopefully he b back soon and find his talents again. regarding tugay and savage, yeah i dont really like savage but tugay is 35 already and playing in the mid takes alot. i think thats y they have been played together the last 2 games. savage is always full of running and that way tugay can b more focus on creativity. but if any one of them goes down, how? left flitty. theres really no cover for almost all department. this is very jialat. haiz.. hope kuqi can start scoring...

The Football Association have charged Blackburn defender Andy Todd with violent conduct after allegedly head-butting Tottenham's Andy Reid.
The 31-year-old Rovers star's off-the-ball clash with the Spurs winger during Wednesday's goalless draw was missed by referee Dermot Gallagher.
Todd has until Tuesday to accept a mandatory three-match ban, or a panel will consider video evidence.
Rovers are facing a disciplinary tightrope after being warned for their poor disciplinary record last season by the FA.

I read in this artcile that Robbie Savage has a 17-game unbeaten streak against Villa, meaning in all his game played with Leicester and Birmingham against Villa, he has never lost a game!
Leicester vs Villa: He won five games and drew seven
Birminghan vs Villa: He has won three times and drawn twice.

JUST the one change for Rovers as Garry Flitcroft comes into Mark Hughes starting line-up.
He'll likely slot into central midfield with Steven Reid moving to right back to cover for the suspended Lucas Neill.
Andy Todd has passed a fitness test and lines up alongside Ryan Nelsen at the back. Shefki Kuqi has shaken off a knock and keeps his place up front.
For Aston Villa, new signing Milan Baros starts at the expense of Juan Pablo Angel.
VILLA: Sorensen, Samuel, Mellberg, Ridgewell, Hughes, Whittingham, Barry, McCann, Davis, Phillips, Baros. Subs: Taylor, Cahill, Moore, Berger, Angel.
ROVERS: Friedel, Reid, Todd, Nelsen, Matteo, Emerton, Flitcroft, Tugay, Savage, Pedersen, Kuqi. Subs: Enckelman, Gresko, Mokoena, Jansen, Johnson.

Blackburn manager Hughes was unsure how to sum up his team's performance, coming after an impressive midweek display that saw them draw 0-0 against in-form Tottenham.
The former Wales boss said: "In the first half we were slow coming out of the blocks and that was where we lost the game. Villa had the initial sharpness in that period and grabbed the vital goal.
"Our second-half performance was a big improvement. There was more endeavour and determination and we were able to peg Villa back on the defensive."
Hughes also lamented the injury problems in his squad that deprived him of the services of two international strikers.
He added: "Obviously we missed Craig Bellamy and Paul Dickov. I hope to have Bellamy back after the two-week international break."
Like his opposite number (refering to oleary) Hughes, who is still concerned about the adverse comments currently being made about Blackburn's disciplinary record, is keen to add to his squad.
He admitted: "There could be a couple of players going out and a couple coming in before the transfer deadline."

Spurs may make a cheeky bid for Blackburn star Morten Gamst Pedersen before Wednesday - but would face competition from four rivals if they do.
Norwegian playmaker Pedersen has caught the eye at Ewood Park so far this season, and scored a stunning volleyed goal in Rovers' 2-1 home win over Fulham.
He took his time to settle in to the Premiership - but is now attracting envious glances from White Hart Lane, as well as Everton, Aston Villa, Manchester City and the Cottagers.
Martin Jol could well launch a bid before the transfer window shuts on 31 August - and if he does it will no doubt spark a domino effect from the other clubs interested in Pedersen's signature.

BOSS Mark Hughes is hoping to have two strikers back for selection when Rovers are next in league action.
With the break for internationals now upon us, Rovers don't have a game until they make the short trip to Bolton Wanderers on Sunday September 11th, and the manager has his fingers crossed that he'll be able to include Craig Bellamy and Paul Dickov for the trip to face the Trotters.
"We've missed Craig, we've brought him into the club to give us a threat in behind with his pace, and we haven't been able to utilise that as yet," said Hughes.
"We are hoping to get him back after the international break, he's still a couple of weeks away from playing.
"We'll have Paul Dickov available again after his suspension, and Lucas Neill will be back."

Plymouth Argyle are hoping to sign Blackburn Rovers striker Jemal Johnson on loan for the rest of the season.
With Paul Dickov to return from suspension, and Craig Bellamy near a comeback from injury, Johnson's opportunities will shortly be limited.
Blackburn want the 20-year-old to gain experience and the club have confirmed Plymouth's offer is being considered by Rovers boss Mark Hughes.
"We have got seven strikers on the books," said Blackburn chief executive John Williams. "The general rule of thumb is four or five so we are a bit overloaded.
"Mark (Hughes) will be looking at whether it's better for him (Johnson) to go, or to stay with us.
"But Jemal has to be involved in some way. The ultimate decision is always with the player and whether he thinks he will best develop playing in someone else's first team."

Could this guy solve our creative problem
Bentley's Arsenal career effectively came to an end on transfer deadline day in August 2005 when he moved to Blackburn Rovers on loan for the season.
Only a couple of weeks' earlier the young forward had handed in a transfer request at Highbury, which was accepted by boss Arsene Wenger, after failing to make an impression following his return from an indifferent loan spell at Norwich City in 2004/05.
Should Bentley prove to be a success at Ewood Park it's a fair assumption that he will move to the north west on a permanent basis.
Bentley was handed his debut for Arsenal in January 2003, coming on as a substitute for Kolo Toure in the 77th minute of the 2-0 FA Cup Third Round win over Oxford United.
He had impressed when moving through the ranks of both Arsenal and England- he was an international with England at Under-15 and Under-16 levels and captained the Under-18s. He won his first Under-21 cap in 2003/04.
The striker prefers to play deep rather than as the main frontman, and has been compared to Dennis Bergkamp. But his chance of following the great Dutch player seemed to end when Arsenal moved for Robin van Persie as his eventual successor.
Wenger suggested he would be involved more during the 2003/04 season, and he was true to his word.
After featuring in the Carling Cup games, he hit his first Gunners goal, a fine effort from outside the area, in the 4-1 FA Cup win over Middlesbrough.
That led to a Champions League debut against Celta Vigo in February and a Premiership bow against Portsmouth at the end of the campaign.
Arsenal chose to send Bentley out on loan for the 2004/05 season, to give him a real shot at first team football, as they did with Jermaine Pennant in the previous season.
Premiership newcomers Norwich City won the race for his signature.
Canaries boss Nigel Worthington believed Bentley could take the Premiership by storm after he had made his debut in a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.
But Bentley struggled for both form and fitness throughout the season at Carrow Road, playing 28 games and scoring just twice.
And when he found himself out of the picture back at Arsenal he requested to leave, bound for Blackburn.
Bentley played just nine games for Arsenal - only one of those in the Premiership - with one goal to his name.

not too sure abt the pace of zurab, but if he's faster than todd, guess owen shdn't be too much of a problem (todd was pretty bad against the faster forwards so far this season>> think west ham and aston villa.) shearer's over the hill, so...
..ok, now we got a tight back 4, hopefully get clean sheet.
up front... oh well, 4-4-2 or 4-5-1, all we just need is for newcastle's defence to pass the ball to bellemy (hopefully the quality of the backpass be like the one by emerton against west ham) and we are 1-0 up~ (ala chelski) :D

American goalkeeper Brad Friedel has signed a new contract with Blackburn Rovers which will keep him at the English Premiership club until 2008.
The 34-year-old's current deal had been due to expire at the end of this season.
"I'm very pleased, we started speaking last April and it's been a little while but we got there in the end," the former United States international said Friday.
"I'm very pleased to stay on and get a three-year deal, especially at my age.
"I think I still have four to five good years at the top level so I was very comfortable and confident to sign.
"I think I can give the club three very good years, it's my sixth season and I have a very good relationship with the fans and the staff."
Thats good news! I hope despite giving a new contract, Hughes will still give chances for Enckleman to play some part in the future. Ever since he came over, he hasnt really got chances to play.

Shipping cost about GBP 6.50. which is another $20 estimated. I think its very expensive, somemore dont have shipping insurance.
Maybe we can try order from Weston.com.sg at Queensway in bulk when the new kit comes out.

kena 5uckered... >_<
pretty decent midfield performance, but poor finishing again...
not too much can be done for the goals by shearer and owen,
but zurab standing there waiting for offside to be given is juz plain stupid (shd hav at least put a bit of pressure).
anyway, the scoreline doesn't reflect the game at all. everyone gets 5uckered once in a while.
let's move on, it's juz the attacking part with hughes need to make it work. somehow goals in the final third dun work out. balls get swung into the 6 yard box most of the time abeit too predictably.
not too much to blame the defence for (imo). ><

Goals 0-3
Shots on Target 7-3
Total shots 17-4
we were the better side. as a trade-off, they get to keep souness a tiny wee bit longer.
i still dun think we need to press the panic button this season.

i believe that was Tugay rather than Zurab. I think if we cant even beat this weak Newcastle side, we really still have long way to go. Forget Europe, Hughes. Lets start finishing teams like Newcastle first.

zurab was on the spot for offside trap but tugay in the middle made them onside. anyway wouldnt make a difference. neill made the foul to the shearer fk, neill kanna fake by zogbia and the cross end up a owen goal is enough liao.
dunno y they keep pumping the ball in high to bellamy or the box when their boumsong and taylor with such height and bellamy height. boumsong looked so uncomfy when ppl put in thru balls just look at his one hand save and the mistakes taylor made. i think sometime they should make low drive cross like wat carlos does. bentley like very eager to take shots also. he got space but he jus went for first strike. wierd sia. sian now start to struggle bottom again. pluck..

not good. y cant hughes go more offensive leh.. nowadays watch rovers play very boring also.. the close down everyone so fast and non stop running and end up stamina drain in the last quarter of the game. more and more hopefuls long ball jus pump into the area. i believe Pedersen and Emmo can cause alot down the flanks but now like keep going long ball. hate the 451 sia. sian

Craig Bellamy scores his first Rovers goal
ROVERS name will be in the hat when the third round draw is made on Saturday, but they were pushed all the way by an impressive Huddersfield outfit.
Craig Bellamy stole the show with a goal in each half for Rovers, earning the man-of-the-match award. There was also a first goal in Rovers colours for Zurab Khizanishvili.
But Huddersfield never gave up and Pawel Abbott caused a few nerves when he pulled a goal back with ten minutes from time.
Mark Hughes made four changes to the side that lost at Newcastle at the weekend, Michael Gray came in for his first start in a Rovers shirt for almost twelve months, whilst Paul Dickov, Brett Emerton and Tugay all returned.
Huddersfield started brightly pressing Rovers well, trying to force mistakes out of the Premiership side, but slowly the home side got on top.
It took just eleven minutes for Rovers to take the lead, Craig Bellamy found Brett Emerton inside, the Australian international returned the pass with pace on it and Bellamy raced clear to beat Paul Rachubka from a tight angle.

The players congratulate Bellamy
A minute later Bellamy showed his pace again, but this time he was too quick and flagged offside as he ran through on goal.
For all their effort it took Huddersfield 24 minutes before causing Rovers trouble. Pawel Abbott's free kick flashing inches wide with Friedel diving full length to his right.
Ryan Nelsen hasn't opened his account for Rovers, and he had two golden chances to increase the lead but put two headers from corner wide of the goal.

Nelsen heads a golden chance wide
But the end of the first half was marred by some ridiculous officiating. The linesman on the near side had his flag constantly raised, with the man in black appearing to be confused by which player was on the ball as their speed going forward was perhaps a little bit too much for him to follow.
It left a bitter taste in the mouth at half time, as both Dickov and Bellamy were booked for questioning the decisions.
Huddersfield almost caught Rovers napping at the start of the second, Worthington and Abbott exchanged passes, before Worthington shot just over the bar.
It was fast and furious stuff, with the play stretched all over the pitch, it meant that there were chances all over the place, but neither side were able to make things count.

Zurab Khizanishvili celebrates his goal
But on the hour mark Rovers were able to breath easier when Khizanishvili headed home from a Bentley corner. It was cruel on goalkeeper Rachubka as he had pulled off an outstanding diving save to deny Emerton in the run up to the corner.
Seconds later however, Chris Brandon broke free on the right of the area, he forced a fine save from Brad Friedel, though the referee awarded Rovers a goalkick.
David Bentley almost grabbed his first goal for Rovers when he skipped past a couple of defenders before floating an effort that had the goalkeeper scrambling backwards, but the ball ended on the roof of the net.
Peter Jackson made a double substitution with ten minutes remaining and it paid immediate dividends. Taylor-Fletcher had only been on the pitch twenty seconds when he fed the ball through to Abbott into the area, and the Huddersfield top scorer turned and fired low past Friedel.
It could have meant a nervy final ten minutes for Rovers, but those worries were eased when substitute Morten Gamst Pedersen fed the ball through to Bellamy, he outpaced his marker before taking the ball round the goalkeeper and tucked the ball away with ease with seven minutes remaining.

Craig Bellamy grabs his second goal
Abbott tried an audacious chip from 30 yards that almost beat Friedel, but Rovers weren't to be denied, avoiding a cup upset.

Its LIVE on tv tonight. 955pm. I think Rovers will be fired up for this game after a very poor showing against Newcastle and desperate to win back some fans.. Nelsen/Zurab will take care of RVN, and Savage will piss Rooney off the field.
Prediction: 1-0 to Rovers (Bellamy)
