I'm using SH and playing WoW in Korea server.
From last week, I could not play game at all. Ping is up to 1200 ms. (previously it was around 120 ms)
Today I went SH service center. and claimed high ping rate. but they don;t even understand what is ping.
they just say like a recording machine about you are using 8 mbps plan but you cannot get this speed all the time. it depends on server blah blah.
I know I know. but I'm taking about ping rate. lagging is different story than downloading speed!
He left me alone. after 10mins he gave me PAC NET phone number. WTF is this?
I'm using SH not PAC NET. If they need to check something with PAC NET, they should do. not me!!!
He said, SH just re-selling PAC NET line. If I have problem with modem, they can help. but they cannot help about internet quality. it this make sense?
I'm totally upset. I will do whatever I can.
Anyone knows how to cancel SH plan without early termination fee? is there any government agency to help/protect customer?
I really want to switch. maybe SingNet ADSL is much better.
I think he is telling you to switch to Pac Net broadband. That is what I'm going to do next month as my contract with slowhub is expiring soon. I have enough of the sluggish broadband.

I think they were discussing the reason here: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=2035576

It depends on what games you play.
For latency crucial shooters games, there is two categories that I have...
1) Popular games (games like CS, DOD, TF...)
2) Less popular games (ETQW, UT, BF)
Group 1 will have no problems since you have an abundance of servers everywhere, and in SG.
Group 2, if you use providers like Starhub, will have you cursing because servers are typically located overseas. Even for servers in Taiwan, Thailand, HK/China and Australia, you have sometimes crazy routes that bring you around the world, and packet loss even though they are physically closer to you. This is a problem especially for Starhub, which has routing that makes a 100+ms connection a 150-250ms one [see australia servers as compared to Singnet] and packet loss [see Thailand servers].

it is in kbps (kilobit per second not kilobyte)
in the end if you like realtime online games which server host outside singapore, don't use starhub. their customer service also suck. they force us to use their utility to test the speed which is INSIDE singapore. If you really want a true speed, then use the speedtest.net and try to connect to los angeles, san jose, or san francisco server.

Recently iz becoming worse.
Partially the problem was due to the prox.
Changing to Singnet.
The latency is very bad, can't even load youtube videos properly.
The only off peak is 3am to 8am.

I hope that our complaints on this thread are being read by SH Technical Engineers. Otherwise it is just a venue to vent our frustrations and nothing is being done.
