Thanks Albert. Got the files and have loaded the .tgz file as firmware extension.
Results on the Encore ENNHD-1GS (NOT the PCI NAS-01G):
(a) Mldonkey is now v2.8.7!!! (yay!!)
(b) Telnet unfortunately still does not work. In DOS (under Win XP environment) I type telnet 192.168.1.107 it says "Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connection Failed"
Is there something else i need to do after uploading the .tgz file you sent me? I have tried rebooting but still the same.
(c) Porttest failed. My settings is as follows
BitTorrent 45002 client_port TCP
BitTorrent 45001 tracker_port TCP
Core 4080 http_port
Core 4000 telnet_port
Core 4001 gui_port
Donkey 60002 client_port TCP
Donkey 60006 client_port UDP
I have forward ports 45001 (TCP and UDP), 45002 (TCP and UDP), 60002 (TCP) and 60006(UDP) to the NAS. But when i try using porttest it says:
BitTorrent Porttest finished 0m 6s ago
Port test failure, Can't connecto to 222.166.160.175 on 45002
Donkey Porttest finished 0m 11s ago
Testing IP: cmXXX-XXX-XXX-XX.hkcable.com.hk (XXX.XXX.XXX.XX)
Starting TCP connection test...
TCP test successful.
Now testing UDP...
Sending UDP packet...
Waiting for result...
UDP test successful.
Connection test finished.
Why is Donkey ok but Bittorrent not??? The download speed on Bittorrent is very slow but i suspect its cos the port is not being forwarded. Any idea greatly appreciated!!!!!
(d) what does the numbers in bracket in the area when "Display U/D Rate" is pressed?? When i hover the mouse cursor over it it says (UDP|TCP)?
(e) Also when downloading torrents which contain a number of files and say I only wanted to download some of the files, is there some way of selecting the files I want so that i do not have to download all the files in the torrent????

(a) Good to know that it work on Encore ENNHD-1GS.
(b) No idea why telnet doesn't work. Need more time to figure this one out.
(c) For BT, just need to port-forward TCP on 45001/2. What's the brand/model of your router?
(d) Firstly, change the default theme by entering this cmd: html_mods_style 0, you will see more option.
(e) Sorry, don't have the answer as I'm still trying to figure this one out.

I am using TP-link TL-WR641G with firmware 3.3.0 Build 061112 Rel.69208n. Not sure why its not working but i tried putting my NAS in DMZ but still only the port tests for Donkey were successfully but BT now. FYI before upgrading the v2.8.7 lite and using v2.8.2 the porttest for BT would also always fail and i thought it was a bug in v2.8.2 and hope it would go away.....or is the problem in the firmware (cos its hacked firmware and so may have some bugs)???? Do you think formatting the HD and starting from scratch would help? I dont have much data on the NAS anyway.
Btw for BT do i only forward TCP or both TCP amd UDP? Does it make a difference.
Something funny i noticed is that for some reason I cannot map the entire Encore ENNHD-1GS drive but can only map the individual directories. But when i ftp into it I can see the root directory and that there are a number of files in there but cannot access/copy/delete them....they seem to have "locked" the root......does anyone know why?
Thanks for all the help. If you manage to figure (b), (e) out pls let me know! Perhaps u should start a separate thread for the Encore ENNHD-1GS!

So, you are saying this BT problem also occurred with NAS-01G box? What do you meant by "hacked", the file you send me is the official firmware for ENNHD-1GS!
BT in MLD only need TCP protocol, it doesn't make a difference but there is no reason to open up more that it's required.
If you can ftp into ENNHD-1GS, download the inetd.conf, which can be found in /etc folder, and send it to me.
Of course, you are free to start another topic on this box but I have doubt there will be much interest as this box is not available here or I least I have yet to seen it.

Sorry I should have been clearer. The problem is only with the ENNHD-1GS. The firmware I sent you was an unofficial firmware and not the official firmware.
I can ftp into the ENNHD-1GS and I can see the root directory and it contains a number of files and directories (eg share, mldonkey, web, etc). I can read the files (eg size, attributes) but I cannot copy the files, it says "530 permission denied". I am already logged in with the user/pass of the administrator.....is there some inbuilt superuser password which is preventing me access???
Or maybe the ENNHD-1GS is too different to the NAS-01G? Thanks for helping me on this when you dont even have the machine!!! If you have any idea pls let me know!!

I think there is a bug in the v.3 version, that makes the format unusable. You should downgrade to v.2 http://www.planex.net/driver/nas/NAS-01G/NAS-01G_FW_v2.00(11-15-2006)_Eng.zip and then format your hdd as you describe.
Later on you can upgrade to v.3 again!

I managed to get telnet working on the Encore ENNHD-1GS by applying a firmware extension i got from Opennas forum for the Allnet 6250 (albert I have sent this to you, if you can figure out by backdoor is not working but this does that would be great)
For telnet, when i log in i can either use the admin password which would log me into /mnt or i can use the root password (user: root, pass: M5qStA) which would log me into /root.....whats the difference?
There seems to be nothing in /root and i cannot copy anything to it.......to install debian or other linux do i need to do it in /mnt or /root?
Thanks

@mc2003, finally managed to figure out what you meant by firmware extension (aka ntx_libra.tgz) from another forum. Look like the backdoor script doesn't work for the ENNHD-1GS.
Regarding your earlier question, only the /mnt can be use for file storage. This is the mounting point for your HDD. The other system folders are stored in the RAM thus any changes done on them will be lost when you shutdown/reboot the NAS.
Don't bother to send me the file, I already have it.

I've having some weird problems now.
Files that i've downloaded keeps showing in the transfer window. Usually it dissapears but not this time. And when I check the folders it keeps creating those downloaded file folders in my p2p/edonkey/directory but none of the files inside the downlaoded folder showed up. the folders being created has the same name but it gives it a numver at the end of the fodler like folder1, fodler2 and so on..
this is a bug I'm sure but I can't stop it. I tried comitting it but it still doesn't dissapears
I can't even telnet into it as well

@Architeuthis, do the followings:
1) Stop MLD either by using the webadmin or Kill Core.
2) Delete all the 'weird' folder from p2p/edonkey/directory folder.
3) Delete that particular torrent from Share\mldonkey\torrents\incoming folder.
4) If that particular torrent still appear in the transfer window, delete the Share\mldonkey\files.ini

Hi everyone.
I bought the NAS-01G a couple of days ago, mainly for the built-in BT client, BUT for some strange reason my added .torrent files disappear when download is complete and there is no sign of any seeding going on (even though its a pretty popular torrent).
Ive been reading some on this forum, but can't really find anything that could solve this problem for me.
This is what Ive done so far:
1. Plugged in my NAS and formatted disk.
2. Gave the box a static IP.
3. Updated firmware to 3.0
4. Added the UPNP file.
5. Enabled P2P function.
6. Added a user in the P2P interface with the useradd command and then auth.
7. Downloaded Sancho and successfully connected to the NAS.
8. Changed the BT port to 60882 and the tracker port to 60881 and portforwarded them both in the router.
Well basically thats all Ive done since I reformatted the drive twice due to that annoying "can't reach the interface on port 4080..."
Any suggestions on how to proceed, look for errors and so on?
I also have another question regarding the FTP server:
Is it possible to specify a default "Home directory" for my users?
I don't want my FTP users to be able to see any other directory than the directory "FTP" and ofc the folders inside of it.
Is this even possible?
Hah, questions comes poping out of my head...
Theres a couple of files in the root dir of the drive, names like mldonkey_282.tgz, ftpd, chlog and so on. They are not downloadable but I still don't want them lying around in my root dir. Any help on this?
Hope you guys can help me with this.
Please note, I have no experience in Linux what so ever and my mother language is swedish so keep all answers simple will ya please.
Thanks in advance.
// Mikael Alfredsson
Edit:
Seeding seems to be working now for some strange reason.
Im gonna keep downloading and see if it's still seeding or has been removed tomorrow when I wake up.

Hi,
I juz bought the NAS-01G from Comex few days back. Ran into some setup problems, I've been reading thru' all the pages on this thread, google, read the manual, read the faq at planex website, yet still unable to find a solution to my problems.
Problem scenario:
1) Having problem to access the NAS-01G
Sometime can access , sometimes can't. whether i used the IE (ie. http://nas-01g) or IP address or the Setup utility. cables are fine - checked and tested.
2) Unable to format Harddisk
When I tried to format the HDD, the screen will refresh a few times, then the HDD activity lights(on the NAS) will comes up. after a while the status will moved up abit and then the status screen goes blank (ie. page not found). The HDD activity light is still on and seem to have hang. Tried doing this twice n the same problem persist.
My Firmware is ver 2.x
HD used is WD 500GB(new, got together with the NAS-01G)
My Setup:
NetGear Router
WinXP SP2 (firewall disable)
Workgroup is configured to be the same.
IP address is static on the NAS-01G
Btw, how do u guys off the NAS-01G? (hold the button for 2 secs?)
Appreciate if anyone could shed some advice.
Thanks.

@RuinChaos, completed torrent (.torrent) are moved to the /mnt/mldonkey/torrents/old folder. Downloaded file are moved to the /mnt/Shared/p2p/directories folder by a script job and seeding will stop. I have done some testing on the seeding by disabling the script job and for some reason, the seeded file just disappeared by itself! I've yet to figure out this problem.
As for your question regarding FTP, I'm afraid it's not possible to set a home directory for each user. What you can do is to set permission to control access, user can still see all the directories.
Lastly, you can safety remove mldonkey_282.tgz but leave the other files alone.
@Cypher, can you further elaborate on your first problem? Regarding formatting problem, is your HDD set to master? And to shutdown, just press the power button and count to 5.
Cypher
04-09-2007, 04:58 PM
@albertLee
Yes, The jumper is set to master only.
I tried using the setup utility (came with the cd) to scan for the NAS..couldn't find it till i do a power off n on, then it will be able to detect. After detection, I will launched the webIU to do a Harddisk format. During the formatting, the screen will kept refreshing itself a few times then the Harddisk activity lights at the NAS will be lighted up and the status bar on the webIU will progress abit before the webIU will throw me a "Page not found" error screen. The NAS seem to hv "froze" at this time cos the Harddisk activity light never went out despite i left it alone for 20mins. After which when I tried to detect/scan the NAS again, it will failed (ie. No NAS found)
2nite I will try to do a screenshot to show u guys what I meant.
thanks.

@Cypher, made sure you are on the same subnet as the NAS. I believed the NAS default IP address is either 192.168.1.101 or 192.168.1.1, use the webUI and assign a static address to the NAS. After restart, you may proceed to format the HD which should take a while to complete.
Cypher
04-09-2007, 05:41 PM
@AlbertLee
Yes, it is in the same subnet, infact initially when I 1st connect, it did get the IP address from the DHCP server. after which I disable the DHCP client in the NAS n assigned a static IP to it.
Btw, how long (roughly) does the formatting takes? longer than 20mins?

Thanks Albertee for the info. Kinda useless function if you can't seed what youve downloaded from a REG-site (for ratio that is)
Have some more questions for you all though...
1. How do I access the "old" folder? (can't see it anywhere)
2.
Last night I started to download a torrent with approx 3000 seeders.
It took the torrent some time to start, about 30-60 seconds and then it started.
(The line above is not a problem, I can live with it ;) )
Strange thing is that I only "see" about 50 of the 3000 seeders even though I know they are there.
Download speed goes up the more seeders it founds so last night I was afraid that the NAS was going to explode since I transfered from my computer at the same time.
So download speed is not a problem, but still it takes a pretty long time before it "sees" enough seeders to get a decent speed.
While downloading this torrent I see uploaders in Sancho, but the state is only "connected" and poof they disappear. Next second a few shows up, and poof they disappear as well.
Only 2-3 of 10-20 has state "Downloading".
My ISP provides me with ~16Mbps / 1.2Mbps, how should my settings look like?
My only restrictions are that uploads should only take like 80% of my bandwidth.
Thanks again for replying.

@RuinChaos, I understand that which is why I'm using my PC to seed for private site. Anyway, MLD is still not a recognized BT client in most private site.
1. In order to 'see' the content of mldonkey folder, you first need to create a folder called mldonkey using webUI. After samba service has restarted, you can view it in Share/mldonkey/torrents/ folder.
2. You sure got a very fast connection speed. In your case, try tweaking the followings:
max_hard_upload_rate=x (x = 80% of your upload speed)
max_hard_download_rate=0
max_opened_connection=800
BT-user_agent=uTorrent/1720 (announce as uTorrent client)

@Architeuthis, you're most welcome. Convergent is just a distributor for PCI product so doubt they bother about end-user's problem. Well, I did receive a small "token" from PCI when I last attended their product launch. Anyway, just providing a small contribution to this community with my little know-how. ;)
@AlexOrcl, if you're able to access the NAS via wired connection then it's the same thing using wireless connection. This is a wifi connection problem and has nothing to do with the NAS. Is your laptop able to detect the router? What type of wireless security mode (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc) did you use?

@Andrew, sure no problem, will call on you when I'm in SLS for kopi. Can't recall my MSN id, will PM you later.
@AlexOrcl, normally how to you access the NAS? Are you able to ping the NAS wirelessly? Have you check your firewall settings? I have the same router as your and don't have this problem.
@Architeuthis, I suspect it has something to do with symbolic link but can't be certain. As for the utorrent thingie, I seriously doubt it has anything to do with this problem.
Okay, the idea solution would be to redo the mldonkey environment. If you have telnet access, remove mldonkey folder by issuing this command rm -R /mnt/mldonkey. After which reload the firmware extension (aka ntx_libra.tgz) using the version that come with V3.0. Remember to stop MLD first before proceeding. Also, any incomplete download will be lost. Finally, you can proceed and upgrade MLD to v2.8.7.

It's been a while since I tried using my NAS-01G to BT. Now that I can spare sometime, I will attempt the painstaking task of testing it again.
First problem...everytime I do a port test, I always get a port test failure error azureus rand. I dunno what that azureus rand thing is but I always get it. Confirm at router end port opened.
Can anyone advise if they have similar port test failure and does it affect the BT use? Thanks.

Arrrggghhhh im ripping my head of in a minute or so!!!
Everytime I solve something with this darn box another issue comes slapping my face.
Ive placed the watchdog.sh, telnetd and backdoor in my sharebox.
(Tried to telnet to it, connected and then I did not what to do so I disconnected again :) )
I Downloaded a torrent file and as soon as it started to download I switched over to the Share section in Sancho and there it was, and its still there, but no connections are made to it.
As soon as the download ended, all uploaders disappeared from it.
On paper this box is everything, in reality all I seem to have is problem with it.
Any suggestion in how to proceed before I return this box or just throw it out the window?
I also want to know if there is any possibilty to make the FTP server work with passive mode (i.e. add a port range).
Thanks again for all contribution to make my box my favourite piece of equipment in my apartment, but I know that it will probably take it a year or so to become that...

For some reasons, I could access my NAS via Wifi now. Maybe, I put wrong ip address on the browser. Thanks for the answers.
Another question: how to create subfolder?
Example:

User_A cannot see User_B and vice versa.
Can this file server scheme be implemented on NAS-01G?

@arsenal7, in P2P connection, your client must be connectable otherwise no data will be exchanged thus resulting in slow speed. Recheck the port-forwarding settings in your router and don't use the same port# as your BT client on the PC. BTW, which version of MLD are you running on?
@RuinChaos, do not implement whatever solution you find in this thread without first having a clear understanding of what it's doing. What work for other might not work for you. At this point in time, I have no idea what you are trying to achieve, try to be more specific.
@AlexOrcl, no problem, glad you resolve that issue. As for your question on subfolder, you have to create each folder using WebUI and assign permission to each user. You can't do this under another folder, that is, the example given by you will not work. All users can still see each other folder but can't access it unless they can supply the username and password.

Hi again (for the 500th time now )
Last night I wanted to move a couple of downloaded folders from torrents.
Instead of download to my computer, switch folder and upload again, I drag n dropped them in my FTP client (up one levele, up one level etc).
Just as I released the mousebutton when drag to the last folder (top folder where share, web etc is) I wondered what was going to happen.
Well, it worked perfectly well to move them to that dir, but now they are completeley stuck.
Can't delete em, can't rename em and I can't move them.
Telnet does not respond anymore for some reason and the only changes I made yesterday was to change my FTP server listening port from a high one, back to default (21).
I resterted the box a couple of times but without any result.
Not at home at the moment and will not be for a couple of hours, but can I simply connect through FTP and simply replace the telnetd file? Why Im wondering this is because I have no rigt to rename or delete it etc.
// RuinChaos
Edit: Without any notification, the folders mentioned above showed up in the web UI of the NAS where I could easily rename/delete them. Pressed F5 to refresh, but after a while they just showed up in the UI. Telnet function still not working though...

Hi Albert, Thanks for the feedback.
I am using 2.8.7. When I did the port test, It does show that it is able to send a connection out from the router. Initially I could not get that until I got the right port forwarding settings on the router and it was able to go through my WAN IP. But after about 1 min of port test, it gave me that error. I have set the Port for the NAS as 7666 and for my PC BT client as 7667. Would this be an issue? My current connection is running at around 4 to 5 kbps. On my PC I can get 20-30. I am using a buffalo router.

Try using a higher port number, something between 10000 to 65535. Use this to check port status: http://whatsmyip.org/ports/
Send me the screen-dump for the error msg. Also what is the model# of your router and which firmware is it running on?

Have not post for a long long time. Anyway, must thank albertlee for his good job here. Unfortunately, I cannot access 192.168.1.XX:4080 after loading MLD v2.8.7 in accordance to instructions. Even the printer cannot work. Loading back the default ntx_libra.tgz (from planex website, included with v3 firmware) put things in order again. Which also means I am stucked with MLD 2.8.2. Anyone has the same experience? Wonder where I'd gone wrong.

Hi Guys. I just got my NAS yesterday. Have been playing around with the settings and unfortunately, out of the box, the mldonkey doesnt work (it comes with the latest firmware v3.0). Anyway, I redownloaded the firmware and the upnp package from their website and got it working again but BT was crawling with even with all the port forwarding stuffs. I was able to search from donkey's servers and download from it.
Today, I've uploaded albertlee's package into my NAS, BT's download speed has improved from ave 1-5kb/s to ave 21-24kb/s. Thanks albertlee. Pls add me zeroblaze96@gmail.com into ur mailing list in the future. So far the NAS is pretty stable. Printer attached to it is functional. BT download is "acceptable" as i'm only being able to connect mainly to peers in my country. I believe this is due to download throttling by my ISP. Any suggestions on how to make my dl faster? :s22:
Any other users from Malaysia using this NAS with better download speed?
Next question, after i've upgraded to albertlee's package, how come i cant get connected to the donkey server? Pls advice.... TQ.

Hi..
Is there any backup software that can access NAS directly without having to map it first? The include backup software cannot do more than 10 folders and cannot do incremental backup.
... and why it is hard to detect NAS using the included software (Backup and PMND, for PMND I almost never find my NAS, only 1 time succeed), while using the map find right a way.
Thanks.

I didn't encounter the bug though. Seems to work fine for me.
I updated it to 3.33, but I couldn't run DLNA and itunes server without updating the ntx-libra.tgz as well. So it's like I have to downgrade it my MLDonkey from 2.8.7 to 2.8.2 and then upgrade it again back to 2.8.7.
Then it all worked.
But yeah, it only supports certain video formats. I link it to my 1st generation XBOX and used the XBMC dahsboard. no glitches so far.
Sad they did not upgrade the MLDonkey version as well. Gee I wonder why they're taking such a long time to upgrade the MLDonkey.

Changelog for MLD 2.9.1
2007/09/09: version 2.9.1 = tag release-2-9-1
6192: EDK: Use discovered client_ip when lowid
2007/09/05
6187: BT: Fix wrong file order of multifile torrents due to patch #6174
2007/09/01
6179: BT: Send correct downloaded amount to tracker when download completed
6174: BT: Encode non-UTF8 filenames using "encoding" or "codepage" data from .torrent if present
2007/08/31
6175: Yet another patch for share_scan_interval
- new default 30 minutes for newly created ini files
- still use 0 to disable
- hard-coded global minimum of 5 minutes, this updates old default 1 to 5
- automated options update, if update is needed (options_version <= 19) and share_scan_interval = 5 (because of new hard-coded minimum, which is processed earlier) its changed to new default of 30
6145: EDK: Update options description of max_connected_servers (Schlumpf)
6172: EDK: properly advertise and honour noviewshared tag (TripleM)
2007/08/23
6160: BT: Another fix for share_scan_interval
- Old hard-coded default was 300s, now with share_scan_interval its possible to use a minimum of 60s which produces high CPU load. This patch implements a minimum of 300s for the BT share_files timer.
2007/08/04
6128: New default for option messages_filter (unease)
6132: HTML: Fix group display in vd <num> for admin users view of other users files
6130: Change API for network_parse_url, support user group
6127: HTML: Display file_chunk_sizes/file_piece_size in vd <num>
6135: BT: Fix high CPU load when share_scan_interval = 0 due to buggy patch #6049 (thx to darkman)

Trying to upgrade firmware to 3.33 but the firmware never get updated despite several attempt.
For private tracker that requires a logon, is there any option if MLD to do that?
To fellow HWZ,
Being playing with this unit for only 2 weeks, my opinion is that you need to have a lot of patience, endurance & time to optimise your speed. It's not as straight forward as traitional BT client for PC. If you do not have the above, forget about buying one as it will soon be in the marketplace. Till today, though I am not contented with the performance, I believe that I will make it one day to achieve what I want. This is my opinion.

@smsct, what's the current firmware version? Might need to downgrade to version 2.00 first before upgrading to 3.33. I did encountered similar issue with the Jap firmware, nearly 'brick' my NAS that time.
Don't quite understand your question regarding private tracker. As long as the private tracker recognized MLD, you are good to go. As mentioned many time before, MLD is a banned client in most private sites.
If you want to achieve decent speed, your BT (in this case, MLD) need to be connectable. Use the porttest to verify this.

Also not quite clear what's a decent speed to have but getting very wide range of speed at different times of day/night.
can anyone specify a torrent that u are using again as a baseline/benchmark?

any suggestions or recommendations for security settings on the NAS (besides the router)? I've changed the password (web admin & MLD), ensured the IP block, that's about it.
v3.33 firmware everytime i restart the NAS, the iTunes Server and DLNA service starts again even tho i set to 'NO'. Bug or normal??

@molecule, you can use the torrent from www.vuze.com as a benchmark. I got download speed of >200KB which is pretty good.
Your security setup look good to go, just made sure that the IP Blocking is indeed showing a list of block addresses.
So, you faced the same problem with the iTune and DLNA. This look like a bug to me, will report this to PCI support.

On the BT-user-agent, change the "default" to "uTorrent/1720" or just uTorrent/1720 without "xxx" on it?? Btw, can we cheange to something like

Have U tried actually deleting the mldonkey folder via windows? I did it b4 and I managed to delete all the mldonkey related settings...
@fxmac
Yes, tried network mapping as well as FTP.
I cant even delete a single ini-file in the top folder.
FTP says no permission and Windows brings up this ugly little messagebox: "Cant delete file".
Somehow I managed to get rid of the downloaded file that wouldnt go away, after a couple of formats and uploading firmware, cancelclicks in Sanch its gone, but my problem with multiple mldonkey folders is still there.
@Albert
Thanks for the maillist add.
Edit: I succesfully removed the entire mldonkey folder after a couple of formats etc. Not really sure how (as usual when it comes to me) but finally its gone!

It's strange, why isn't formatting good enough to clear whatever in the harddisk? Is it because it's Linux?
By the way, is anyone using NAS-01G with the 2Wire modem that came along with Singtel MIO plan? Would appreciate some feeback as there are a lot of feedback that the 2Wire modem is not BT friendly.

There is another PCI model which has yet to be release here. It's called: Jack in the Box (http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/11/planex-intros-jack-in-the-box-itunes-dlna-media-server/).
You might want to take a look at Dlink DNS-323 (http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=509) which sell for $259 during the Comex show.

I have reported the bug to PCI Tech Support concerning DLNA and iTune server function refusing to be turn-off permanently and they have confirmed this problem.
Another bug is regarding formatting. A number of you have reported problem doing reformatting of their hard drive and I personally have problem reformatting my thumbdrive. Would appreciate if those who had this problem to post the details here, especially on how you go about resolving the problem. I'm going to file another report with PCI and hopefully this problem will be fixed in the next firmware release.

@smsct, what you have listed are public trackers which normally is not an issue. And yes, all these trackers are not blocking MLD. Download speed from public trackers are generally not that great in the first place, the fast speed you had earlier on could be from some "super-seeder(s)".
@zhouwz, the problem I had is related to formatting, the NAS is able to recognized the thumbdrive but I couldn't reformat it. Think I resolved the problem by deleting the existing partition using the fdisk command.

I had another portable HD containing the same files as my NAS. But the problem is gone now after I power down to let it rest.
btw is there anyway to force the NAS to do a rescan of my shared iTunes folder, as the ID3 tag is mess up in iTunes.
I had verify the ID3 tags by copying the file to local HD and verify it using both Winamp & iTunes.

Thought I should update on the cause of the porttest failure. After trying out various methods from the NAS to my router and wad not, by sheer luck, I was able to pinpoint the problem to the guarding.p2p. As you can see from the screen, I was getting mine from bluetack, if I had that file loaded, the porttest will fail. Since openmedia is up once again, I change the link to get the guarding.p2p from them. Porttest pass without any failure now, tested with both the normal guarding.p2p and the guarding_full.p2p.
The reason I suppose could be:
1) the guarding.p2p from bluetack really block my incoming port.
2) the guarding.p2p from bluetack is actually blocking the site where MLD links to conduct the porttest.
My guess is siding more to the latter. In all sense, I would advice all those using the bluetack guarding.p2p to do a check on their porttest again. I had mine refreshed on a daily basis last time btw...

assuming the nas-01g's ip is 192.168.1.50;

Hi, I am new to this forum and I have been using NAS-01G for nearly half year. I had upgraded to firmware 3.33 and MLD 2.9.1 (downloaded from mobile01.com). The Chinese characters problem is fixed, but the MLD becomes very unstable, even I shutdown the iTune server in the web interface. From this forum, I know that there is a bug on 3.33. Now, I have rollback to firmware 3.0 since I rarely use iTune server.
May I know where I can download Albert's MLD 2.9.1? I would like to have a try.
Moreover, do anyone has the experience on how to install PHP + MySQL on NAS-01G?
Thx.

@Proximus, I took a look at the record layout of that file and it's similar to the two I mentioned earlier so I doubt it would work with MLD.
@fxmac, if my memory serve me right, all these filter file should work with MLD but have no idea why it's not working.
@daidey, are you Derick? Regarding the chinese character problem, does it also apply to the folder name? As for firmware v3.33, what I did was to rename the program filename of iTune server and DLNA so that it will not run every time I on the NAS.
As for the version of MLD (v2.9.1) compiled by me, you can send me an email with your request.
To install LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) on this box, just download the debian image created by jchuang1977, all the services have been install and configured. Alternatively, download the final_0411 archive file which contain the same thing minus debian and is workable within the native environment.

@daidey, my MLD release is based on the source code from Mldonkey which only fix the display issue but not the folder name. The unicode problem was fixed in the earlier version but came back again in this version.
As for the official debian package, you need to re-enable telnet service as only SSH is enabled. I have no problem logging in using the username nas01g.

@molecule, you can verify whether the range of IP addresses provided in the guarding file is indeed blocked by using the MLD command block_test <ip address>. Replaced the <ip address> with the actual address you wish to test.

I guess its time for some updates.
Was having a lot of porttest failure issues, unable to 'reset' the NAS etc etc. and just gonna give an account of what I did to resolve them, and hopefully we can learn something together.
- There are few instances when I tried to reformat the HDD, and the resulting was the old contents will still be there. I believe this is not normal, and it is believed that any HDD activity and/or downloading activities will interfere with the format process.
Solution:Disable mldonkey in NAS WebUI. This should prevent access to mldonkey's WebUIUse kill command in mldonkey to stop the core, and reformat.
- Upon reformatting of HDD, 'flash' in extended firmware from the 3.33 package first. Restart. Then load the mldonkey package from Albert. Restart again after.
- Change the mldonkey's ports (both usage and tracker ports) to something higher than 40k. Portforward (if behind router) to match these ports. Perform porttest and make sure it pass.
- Tweak download settings as recommended in this thread.
- When all done, remember to execute "save all" command from mldonkey interface. i notice some settings might be lost if just using "save" command.
All in, achieving around 50kBps download rate now testing with using Fedora 7.0 torrent as test. Not really fast, but far stretch from what I had (0.1) :s13: Maybe more tweaking will improve it. (I am assuming this torrent should reach 100kBps or more, due to its popularity, correct me if I am wrong. Thanks)
Added: I just checked the history and the download achieved 175kBps between 1-2am this morning, so I guess its not too shabby
Props to all those who contribute in this thread, especially Albert, who took time to reply my mails with my silly questions.
I do, however, have another question:
How exactly does a tracker gets to be 'disabled'? I notice in a torrent I tested, under the tracker list, some trackers are highlight in red, and showed as
disabled: http://tk2.greedland.net:80/announce
--error: MLDonkey: Request error from tracker
Anyone has similar experience?

@Albert, for the Chinese folder problem, someone in mobile01.com had changed somethings in the source code and then compiled. It really works for Chinese folder name now. However, the file size of mlnet is very big, around 10MB. I think your version is better for limited RAM in NAS. You may refer to the following: http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=110&t=249502&p=62
He had changed the source in RED color only.
For the offical debian, I can ssh it now. It was due to the permission problem of the backdoor file. Now, I had changed the password of root and able to login as root now. Thx for your information. Now I am continue to look for now to install PHP and MySQL.

@minitaz, my guesses are it could be because the tracker is blocking MLD, IP filtering by the guarding file or error encountered when establishing connection to the tracker. FYI, MLD do not support tracker using UDP.
@daidey, I knew about the source code changes just that I prefer to stick to the official source from Mldonkey.

If I want to access the Nas-01g via internet using ftp client, how do I know what is my external IP address as the IP address assign by ISP is a dynamic one. The external IP address will change once in a while and the ftp client will not point to the right IP address to access my files.

To update your DNS via the No-IP or dyndns, there SHOULD be a page under your router settings which will enable it to auto update. If you arent behind a router, dun tink its possible..U will have to manually update it...

I am assuming you are using a router. If so, you can check if your router has a DDNS configuration section. In there, you can input your No-IP account details. After which, portforward port 21 to your NAS's static IP (I hope you are using static IP for it). All these done, you should be able to access your NAS via FTP using yourname.no-ip.com url.

@smsct, the guarding file is there to prevent your BT client (MLD) from connecting to any of the remote peer who IP address is blacklisted in the list.

Reload the firmware extension (ntx_libra.tgz) using the copy from PCI, this will replace the MLD to v2.8.2. Once this copy is working, you can then update to the latest MLD.

After downloading the guarding file, I have made a discovery which I do not know whether is valid. Anyway just to share with everyone.
Since downloading the guarding file about 4 days back, I realise that I could connect to more peers, unlike the past. This has boost up the downloading rate indirectly. It's consistent so far & I am still monitoring on the performance. As down writing this, still going strong. FYI, the source file are the same as before downloading the guarding file, the reason why I feel that I could connect to more peers after setting up the guarding file.

I have similar problem in the past. This is what I have done....
>> Downgrade to firmware 3.00
>> Load 2.82 (from PCI website)
>> Test MLD
>> Okay --> Upgrade to 2.91 (Albert's version)
>> Test MLD
>> Okay --> Upgrade firmware to 3.33
After every step, I restart the unit, not sure if it's necessary but just want to be safe. If this still doesn't work, reformat the harddisk to clear up everything. This is what I have done also. I realise that loading firmware 3.00 & loading MLD 2.91 directly doesn't work for me.

Glad that it work for you. Generally 5 concurrent download is not a problem. For me, I load in more than 50 torrents at one time but only 5 will be active while the rest are on queue. @ctong1976, you only need a single command to do a "clean" MLD install so be very careful as it might wipe clean your HDD if done incorrectly.
1) Telnet into the NAS. Terminate all MLD process with this killall mlnet
2) Type rm -R /mnt/mldonkey
3) Copy the "ntx_libra.tgz" download from PCI into Share folder
4) Type tar zxf /mnt/Share/ntx_libra.tgz which would extract all the files into mldonkey folder
5) Depending on the MLD built you have downloaded, copy it into Share folder
6) Type tar /mnt/Share/zxf ntx_libra_MLD291_lite.tgz
7) Restart NAS
You can skip step 3 to 6 if you choose to use the NAS webUI to update.
@lawrenceloy, I have ran 20 - 30 concurrent torrents with plenty more on the queue and MLD still going strong.
@smsct, once your external HD is recognized by the NAS, you can use the normal method to access it by browsing the NAS IP address. As for DDNS setup, I have configure before, will try to post some screen shot on how this is done. If anyone have this on your system, do post your setup here.

If you're refer to the PNMD software, it's only used in the initial installation to detect the IP address (obtain from DHCP) of the NAS. Once static IP address (prefer) is assigned to the NAS, there is no use for this software.

I've updated my MLD to 2.9.1 but still using firmware of 3.00.
The good thing about 2.9.1 is that I can finally see the Chinese characters in the downloads under WebUI. The torrents can also now be queued up which previously cannot (or maybe it can, but I don't know).

@lawrenceloy, which particular built were you running on? Have you try other built?
@smsct & fxmac, in order for seeding to work, you need to disable (or replace) the watchdog script, there is a routine in there that move the completed download files out of the "incoming" folder. It was put in place (in firmware v3.00) because of bug in the earlier version of MLD that remove completed download file.
I have tested this out by first killing the script process, test-run by downloading a small torrent and let it seed for a number of hours without failure.

@smsct, all this while, MLD is able to seed (or re-seed) torrent for completed download. The reason why it's not doing so is because of the watchdog.sh script.

@ctong1976, do take note that file inside the temp (or tmp) folder contain partially downloaded data so it's useless provided you know how to resume the download using MLD. One workaround is to first copy out the file and use other BT client like uTorrent to resume download. Of course, you had to rename the filename first.
@smsct, refer to the following backdoor script.
#!/bin/sh
# Kill watchdog process
killall watchdog.sh
# Comment the following if you wish to run itune and DLNA server
killall dms
killall mt-daapd
# Enable telnetd
cp /mnt/Share/telnetd /mnt
sed -i "/telnet/s/.*/telnet stream tcp nowait root telnetd/" /etc/inetd.conf
killall inetd

@ Albert,
Thanks for the effort but I am totally lost now, really do not understand what you are trying to tell me. Let me clear my mind first.
Regarding ctong1976 issue, I am also interested to know how this is being done. Couldn't find the tmp or temp folder? Care to elaborate?

@smsct, thought you wanted MLD to continue seeding after your BT download has completed rite? Which part are you lost?
Regarding the temp/tmp folder, it's inside Share/mldonkey folder. Incomplete file has filename like "BT-xxxxx".

The backdoor script is just a normal text file comprising of Linux command (refer to sample code). Use notepad or any text editor (don't use MS Word) to create the file. Once you're done just placed it in the Share folder and restart the NAS.

Thanks, will try this out. Hopefull I don't screw up the whole configuration. By the way, should it wave it as watchdog.sh ? or what ?

Nope, watchdog.sh is part of the firmware and is launch upon the NAS bootup. Changing this file directly is useless as everything other than those in /mnt folder reside in memory. Anyway, to keep thing short, if there is a file called "backdoor" in Share folder, it will be executed like a script.
Damn it, looked like I'm wrong, MLD actually removed all the downloaded file when I restart the NAS. Has anyone managed to overcome this problem?

Huh ? Does that mean that MLD is not able to seed after downloading?

Do you encounter internet slow down when the NAS-01G is downloading?
My internet speed slowed to a crawl when downloading. Is there any way to prevent that?
I find that sometimes after changing some settings in MLDonkey, the MLDonkey gui will not be accessable the next time. Is this normal?

Yes, provided you don't restart the NAS. As mentioned earlier, for some reason MLD simply removed all my download when I restart otherwise it continue to seed for many hours after downloading.

No, I have not faced this problem except maybe during heavy downloading. Your router may need some tweaking. What's the download speed when you have this problem.
I find that sometimes after changing some settings in MLDonkey, the MLDonkey gui will not be accessable the next time. Is this normal?
This is not normal. What setting(s) did you change? Some settings like port number require restarting NAS.

@Albert
What router settings are you referring to? I'm using the default 6882 port as my ISP seems to have block most of my other ports. Port test is ok but speed is actually not very high, max 32kb/s download
Most of the time I just change settings like disable the P2P downloads in the Planex gui, and then I could not access the MLDonkey gui anymore

@ctong1976, refer to this link (http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#Special_note_for_users_with_Linksys_WRT54G_GL_GS_routers) regarding the router settings.
The rule of thumb is never to use the default port number as these are known to be blocked by ISP or BT site.
Disabling the P2P option on the NAS webUI will shutdown MLD, of course you wouldn't be able to access the gui after that.

Thank you Albert for the 2.9.2-version.
You know, that you still are my hero!
:D
I had some problems to start up the NAS after the upgrade (full version), but suddenly all start to work and is running fine with good speed.
Up to 180Kbit/s for a file I am downloading right now.
Directories showing are
share
- P2P
-- directories
-- edonkey
--- directory
--- files
-- files
-- torrents
But no mldonkey-map is shown!

Thank kentstefan and others who have feedback.
I must have created the symbolic link to point to mldonkey folder so that I have easy access to it. Let me know if any of you would like to have this feature and I will incorporate it in the next release.

Thanks Albert for the link. I followed the instructions and modifed some settings in the IP filter of my router and now it is ok. But speed is still slow... probably because of the torrent itself.
By the way, I'm still having port test failure on the EDK UDP part, the TCP part is ok but the UDP part keep returning error. Any ideas?

@Albert,
After upgrading to MLD 2.9.2, now cannot access MLD. What to do now?
Update:
This morning try again, MLD resume normal. Don't know why, maybe it needed a break....
However the download speed is low, will wait for it to pick up.
Thanks Albert for MLD 2.9.2

@ctong1976, for EDK, you need to allow TCP for the client side (port# 4662) and UDP for server end (port# 4666).
@smsct, did you check whether the P2P option in NAS webUI is disabled? BTW, depending on the guarding file used, it take much longer for MLD to load up.

P2p option is enable, something that I always check. Anyway as updated earlier, no more problem accessing MLD, just that the speed is not performing. Will just wait..

I already opened port 4666 but I still have the same message when I performed the port test. Is the client port for the EDK configurable or is it fixed at 4666. I couldn't seem to find it in the settings. Thanks for all the help and also for sending me the latest MLDonkey. Still don't dare to install it as I took a lot of effort to finally set up my BT

Hi fellow experts,
Can someone tell me where can I find a step by step guide to setup torrent download on the NAS? I tried enabling the P2P in the bittorrent option and put a torrent file there - nothing happens...dun know why..the interface shown on manual totally different from what I see...and when I click on http://192.168.1.101:4080/ to check on status - it just shows page cannot be displayed due to server not found...any ideas anyone or anywhere I can look up for help? I am running V3.0 and on static IP....

@reson90, it just not possible to have a converter install inside the enclosure.
@ctong1976, as mentioned before, don't use the default port number. All port number in MLD is configurable, for EDK it under the "Plugins" if you're using the MLD webUI.
@Zeratul, download the newer guide from PCI site, the one mentioned in the manual is not using Mldonkey as the BT client.

@Zeratul, of course you need to unzip the downloaded file. I wonder how you perform the firmware upgrade in the first place?
The archive file contain the firmware (.web) and firmware extension (.tgz). You need to perform the firmware upgrade followed by the "Character Set & UPnP" upgrade (last option in the Maintenance).

Dear fellow NAS-01G buddy,
Just want to check, has anyone use NAS-01G on Singtel MIO modem, the 2Wire voice modem. Thinking of changing my existing BB plan but do not want to jeopadise my NAS-01G.
Does the 2wire modem have dynamic DNS function?
For those who have connected NAS-01G to this modem, please share with us. Appreciated !!

Hi Albert,
Thanks I updated to Mldonkey 2.92 however, I still cannot see the edonkey directory. I have "directories", "files" and "torrents" folders but not edonkey. Do I need to create one ?
Do I use the PNMD to do it ?
Thanks

@ctong1976, just change the port number for EDK client will do, the server side will change accordingly. Use portinfo to view changes.
@smsct, changing of BB plan will not affect your NAS in anyway. For what I know, BT perform badly on 2Wire modem especially on MIO plan. This modem do not support UPnP but not sure whether it has DDNS function or not.
@pngoh, downloaded file(s) from EDK are stored in "files" folder.
@Zeratul, don't quite understand what you're saying, which file are you referring to?

I agree with your finding. Search through some forum & the outcome is a thumb down for MIO plan if I want have comfortable BT speed.
