Did U try to disable the BT and den enable it again for a couple of times via the GUI?

Yeah, numerous times. Didnt help a bit. Restarted the box a few times also.

I noticed that MLD use port 4000, soo this is the gateway in.

telnet 192.168.1.X 4000

auth loginname password

But I would guess that some stop and start inside the webbgui and a restart will make your NAS come up again. I had some problems in the start of 2.9.2, but this is how I got it to work.

@fkadir, have you resolve your problem? If not, we can schedule an IM (skype, gmail chat, etc) session and try to work this thru.

@kentstefan, I doubt MLD telnet will be of any use if the program is not even running in the first place. What ctong1976 was referring to is the telnet daemon which allow direct access to the Linux OS. BTW, I'm interested to know how you go about resolving your problem using your method.

FYI, I'm working on getting a "clean" environment for MLD and package it together with the latest version (from CVS) as tarball. Will also include a newer version of telnetd as well. Unfortunately, only recent active member (those who post here) will get this. ;-)

I got similar issue when first upgraded to 2.9.2. But it turns out that MLDonkey just takes a while to start up, even when the NAS box is up. Try waiting a bit, like 2mins, after resarting of the NAS is done, then access the Webgui of MLDonkey.

Worked for me. GL.

The initial launching of MLD take a bit of time to startup depending on the type of guarding file used and the number of network turned on. On my NAS, it took around 30secs to launch (only BT and EDK enabled) for the Full built (v2.9.2) with guarding file from this site: http://www.openmedia.info/downloads/guarding_full.p2p.zip

Tips: remove the downloading of hublist and nodes.gzip if you're not running Fasttrack and DirectConnect.

Hi, Thanks for helping. How do I telnet into the box? I tried telnet but the box doesnt let me connect.

Thanks once again.Er, you will need to download some files to put into the NAS, you should be able to find the link in this thread. Albert might be able to help you on that

Reporting for duty... :)

1st and foremost I think those having low perf with their d/l time it might be usefull to check your cables especially tel wires... if its distorted in any way it might help to change the wire... happened to me and after changing wow the same old speed returned.

on 2.9.2, thanks albert... glad to report that I have installed normal version and it is absolutely fantastic... i think it is better than 2.9.1... speed wise

will try it further... and yes it took a while for the nas to initialise after the upgrade

the only issue is that I seems to having problem d/l'ing the full version... using firefox here

@Albert,
You have provided 3 version, lite, normal & full version. Beside the extra feature between each version, are there significant different in the downloading speed?

I am now using the lite version, now think whether I should go for the normal version instead.

@smsct, downloading speed has nothing to do with what version (built) of MLD you're running on. Each has different memory requirement and as pointed out by shadowandy, stick with lite version if you're only running BT and EDK.

I was speaking to someone from the hardware shop & this is what I was told. Don't know whether it genuine or not. See if you agree with this statement.

Thank Albert for your input.

There is one thing that I have discovered last night. The MLD donkey peer connection suddenly speed up all of a sudden. When I check on the IP, realised that it has been refresh. This gives me the impression that some IP assigned are good, that is with good connection to peers whereas some are not so good. This may not be logical but it happens many time. Any comments on my findings?

Technically, if resources are abundant, there would be no impact on download performance. However, if there is an issue of insufficient resources (e.g. ram) and mldonkey could not get the amount of resources it requires for smooth running, then performance *might* be impacted.

@shengsheng, the PCI download server is not very stable atm which is why you keep getting partial download resulting in file error. I have upload the firmware onto another file hosting site, you can download from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?1mjkbztguts

@smsct, although the system doesn't complain when you input the zip file for the firmware upgrade, there is nothing being done in the background. Are you sure you have done the upgrading using this method before?

@geoal1973, got a couple of questions regarding your problem.

1) What version of MLD were you running on before the upgrade?
2) How did you perform the upgrade?
3) Regarding the error message, are you referring to NAS webUI or MLD webUI?
4) Have you try clearing all the web cache of your browser?

Hi Albert and thanks for reply. Fortunately the problem solved after some reset to factory defaults but for the story I was using the Mldonkey 2.9.2 normal and I want to try the full version (which I did). The error appeared after I perform the kill command on Mldonkey in order to do the flash of full Mldonkey and when I try to go to web UI I get this error. I tried several things but all failed so I perform several resets to factory and finally worked again. Thank you very much about your concern.

@geoal1973, good to know you sorted out your problem. Seems kind of strange to me that factory reset has something to do with MLD operation.

@E_DEAD, partitioning is done via the NAS webUI. If you're talking about having more than 1 user partition, I'm afraid this is not possible with the webUI. As for hooking up 3-in-1 device onto this NAS, this is not possible as well.

@memini, PCI do not have a local website, the server is located either in Taiwan or US office. As for porting Deluge to this box, I doubt it can be done.

Hi albert,

Some time i encounter this problem like unable to access from my Mapped folder in MY Computer ... any other user encounter e same problem ???I have this problem as well but somehow I don't think it's the problem with the NAS. If it happens I jsut reboot the NAS and it'll be fine. It's mroe to the router's configuration?

Another possibility oculd be you're downloading lots of big files and the NAS has problems struggling to transfer the files after download..limited memory buffer or internal bandwidth? likely.

I've use it for awhile now(MLDonkey 2.9.2) Thanks to albert. So far it's working fine..only hope the chinese character thingie will work though hehe..Speed wise..I'll say it performs fine..seems much more stable now.

Only thing I notice is the refresh late between the indicator bar on top and the page itself. Often the indicator bar refresh about every 30s. Usually the page would too..but it seem that now even IF the page does refresh with the indicator bar that shows the current download speed. The page or window below with all the torrents doesn't update. Seem like out of sync.

Anyone else having this problem?

I had this problem twice before as well. Thats due to me allowing MLD to resume a partially downloaded file. Had no solution for it so far.

Wad I did is kill MLDonkey, delete the MLDonkey folder from the NAS, den apply the MLD tarball...basically like resetting up MLD.

@fxmac, all *.ini can be deleted and will be recreated when MLD is next active. Of course certain settings will be reset to default as a result.

Another workaround is to restore the previous settings from the old_config directory.

Hi there,

i tried to flash the Longschine LCS-8311 (with firmware NH231_NONBRAND_V4.10_06-21-2007_.web) with the PCI NAS-01G (firmware NH230A_PCI_V3.33_09-14-2007_.web) via WebUI by renaming the file (to get the MLD v2.9.2 running). I thought it was no problem as Albert writes in his mail "The Longshine NAS has the same hardware and firmware as the PCI NAS-01G, so the firmware/firmware extension from both boxes are compatible).

Afterwords it is no more possible to get on the WebUI or even ping the NAS. The NAS is always reebooting itself (showings blue LED + both USB PORT-LEDS + LAN, then blue LED + LAN and then a blinking blue LED + LAN, then back from the beginning).

When i plug a USB-Stick on USB1 or 2 the correct LED is shining in between. But after a short while the rebooting-process again.

When I try to restore factory defaults by reset, it doesn't work. NAS ist still always rebooting.

How can i play back the old firmware without the webui. Is there a special trick (a special IP-Adress in NH230A_PCI_V3.33, a special button Reset + Backup or something like that)?

Greetings,
Tetsuo

@tetsuo2002, I so sorry to hear that. What I don't understand is why did you flash your NAS with PCI firmware? I thought your intention was to upgrade MLD which all you need to do was to update the firmware extension (ntx_libra.tgz from me) as stated in my email. My apology if I did not state this clearly in my email.

Although, the LCS-8311 and NAS-01G has similar hardware, based on the Netronix NH230 board, the former support Sata HDD while the PCI one support only IDE HDD. My info is based on a Germany wiki site (refer: http://wiki.opennas.info/index.php/NH-230_Compabillity)

Look like you have bricked your NAS so unless you have access to a serial-to-TTL cable (refer: http://forum.opennas.info/viewtopic.php?t=904), I doubt there is anything you can do other than RMA your unit.

Again, my sincere apology for the misleading statement in my email. BTW, are you local?

PS: For the record, the Longshine LCS-8311 has similar (NOT the same) hardware as the PCI NAS-01G and ONLY the firmware extension (ntx_libra.tgz) is compatible.

These files are found in the mldonkey folder which is not visible by default. In order to view this folder, you have to 'create' it using the NAS webUI -> Disk. Remember to assign RW permission to your username.

albertlee,

Lately, my MLdonkey download speed is so slow 1~5kbs, I thought that it maybe network problem but I run utorrent & emule on my PC, the download can hit to 200kbs. I don't know why suddenly MLD become so slow & I didn't change any setting on v2.9.1 since upgrade.

Btw, I thinking of installing Debian in NAS-01G, just want to check with you, I saw on the web that some people install Debain & install rtorrent or torrentflux, they got a better download speed than MLD.

I wonder, can Emule be install on NAS-01G?? I saw on Wiki that Linux is using aMule (a mod Emule) & looks like in can be install on Debain as shown on the below:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMule

Have you tried & install Debain & other torrent client on NAS-01G?? Is it really better than MLD in download speed??

One thing that came to my mind, for those who installed debian, how do you update the firmware of the NAS?

Hi! Albert:
May I know which IPS you subscribe to? Because my ISP carries traffic-shaping so NAS-01G can not break through the block, as encrypted protocal is not supported by MLdonkey. I want to switch ISP, any advice? Thanks in advance

@tetsuo2002, I hoped you can get your NAS fix as I felt somewhat responsible for your current plight.

@Raptor1, kurobox debian image is usable on this NAS but it's pretty old. Download the one from PCI Japan website. BTW, when using this type of image (Root Filesystem), you are basically switch (chroot) into a different environment, the existing firmware is not touch at all.

@zhouwz, I'm on SH MOL Express plan. IIRC, ISP only throttle BT traffic for well-known port number, so you might want to relook at your current settings (NAS and router). BTW, which ISP are you on?

Hi, i encounted some problems when i updated my firmware.

I updated to 3.33, but it still shows 3.00 in my status page. Not a big problem. But My MLNET is screwing up =(. It keeps loosing connections, and after a while (say3mins ?), the connections will drop to 5, and i have 0 downloads. I have to keep "pause & resume" my torrents to keep it downloading.

Hi peeps. Just found this webpage which I think is quite useful for some of the MLDonkey problems even though it's meant for MLDonkey for D-Link DNS-323.

But do take heed it may not work for NAS-01G. A good reference no doubt

Hi all.

I bought a Nas-01G a while ago and have just used it for network storage.
I havent learned alot about the functions on the server and that could be the reason that I suck at the settings.

Iīm now trying to get the DNLA function to work with my playstation 3 and so for I canīt get the server to show up on the PS3. I have a D-link gamingrouter in the middle if that could be a problem.

As far as I can see there is only one setting to do on the Nas-01G and that is DNLA on, but what happens then? do the server just share all the files? Or is it any other settings that needs to be done on the server?

(Can I change the default speed for ftp on the server?)

I saw on Wiki that Linux is using aMule (a mod Emule) & looks like in can be install on Debain as shown on the below:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMule

http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/AMuleWeb

Have you tried & install Debain & other torrent client on NAS-01G?? Is it really better than MLD in download speed??

Apology for the late reply.

Regarding your NAS slow performance, what type of guarding file did you use with MLD and did you have similar one install on your PC?

As for installing Debian rootfs, refer to my earlier post. Yes, I had much better download speed with Torrentflux as compared to MLD. Have not try rtorrent client though. But one word of caution, all these BT client you mentioned do not have any peer filtering function so one got to be careful when connecting to public tracker.

Edonkey is the alternative eMule client and is part of Mldonkey.

Firmware upgrade consist of 2 parts, the file with extension .web is the actual firmware which get written to the flash memory. Whilst, the firmware extension (ntx_libra.tgz) can contain program updates like Mldonkey and is written to the harddisk.

Did you assign static or dynamic IP address on your NAS? Are you able to ping both devices from your PC? AFAIK, there is nothing else to configure on the NAS once the function is enabled. And yes, all your media files on the NAS will be shared out.

Thanks for the quick respons, I have static IP adresses on the home network.
I can ping both the router, the server and the playstation from my computer.
Well I have enabled DNLA and it seems like thats the only thing I need to do on the server so the problem must be in an other product.

The other question about the ftp server, a friend uploaded some large files to the server and he noticed that I could recieve about 2mbit/sec, he then opened a second session into the server and then he got another 2mbit. he opened a total of 4 sessions to reach my download limit. Maybe the dlink router is the problem.

@Madbaires, Raptor1 is right, most if not all private tracker ban Mldonkey giving reason like "It's not a proper torrent client". You can try changing the BT-user_agent in MLD to mimic another BT client like uTorrent. Whether this work or not depend on how 'smart' the tracker announce is coded.

Hi guys,

As a newbie, I got to say I learned quite a bit from the posts so far. And I should read all of the recent posts to avoid redundancy, but I am in the middle of setting this thing up and I am in such a mess! Please help out, dear guru!

Heres my little project (the Broadband TV just screwed up my whole Network setup):

Living Room:
Broadband Modem
connected to Broadband TV STB
then to Asus WiFi Router
NAS-01G right at the spot
Planet PL201 Powerline (85) link to Router
so 802.11G + PL85 across the house

Study:
10/100 Hub with PL85 connection (rated around 50-60)
Connected to XP with 1TB, Linux Box, Printer

Dining Room:
Notebook on WiFi

Bedroom now being setup:
Zyxel DMA-1000 DLNA Media Client to PL85
connecting to LowD TV

The DLNA just didn't work. And I have troubleshot the Powerline being a problem, heres a bunch of questions:

1. DLNA should run on different brands right?
2. Can DLNA run off Powerline network with NAS-01G?
3. Can my DLNA client connect with my NB on WiFi, even wired to Router?
4. Don't understand why PL network would be a problem (even Zyxel plans DLNA with PL200). I wired the DMA-1K to Router, can ID NAS-01G now, but since PC is still on PL85 and running DLNA Server, it didn't get identified. SO-> Powerline is the culprit?
5. Can anyone tell me how to File-Manage NAS-01G for DLNA use:
a. do we need to create 1st level folders for DLNA share (Video, Music, Photo)?
b. is there any limitation on Filenames for DLNA that would affect file recognition?
c. will ITune server be in conflict with DLNA music? if run together, if files reside at same place, if iTune run on mnt/Share/mp3 and DLNA run on mnt/mp3?
6. DMA-1K is said to accept .avi videos with XviD compression, but pointing it to my BT files @ mnt/share/p2p/files which is full of XviDs, it didn't recognize any files. Any ideas?
7. If we were File Managing the NAS, instead of doing all the copying and moving on XP (which takes years and bog down the net), how do we do a local NAS file move?

These are the DLNA related questions I have, it'll be interesting to see if anyone is setting up DLNA to work similar to my setup.

I do have some further issues and suggestions to follow on next post.

Thanks!

May I suggest, since installing, running and tweaking the NAS is quite a bit of work, and this Thread is a labyrinth; shall we organize a walkthrough checklist in setting the 01G?

I just got it 3 days ago, already I have encountered the bugs - DLNA.iTune bug, Not-formatting, once formated cant even get in, working around 2.00/3.00/3.33 wares....
At the end, I just bought a new 500G and installed it instead. (the 250G started out wasn't big enough anyway :)

Heres what I did, following the SPECIAL CDR they include in the Hong Kong Package:
(provide a place to start correction/walk-thru with, so PLS correct me if I'm wrong..)

1. Configure LAN on Router and NAS with Pnmd
2. Download 3.33 Firmware NAS-01G_FW-V3.33(9-14-2007)_Eng, and install it using Maintenance Page.
3. Install uPnP+Chr Set ntx_libra.
4. Goto WebUI and check Status to see 3.33 installed, and Chr Set is runnin.
5. ?

Questions:
1. Does 3.33 backwardly include everything in 3.00 and 2.00?
2. Is the ntx_libra the same for 3.33 and 3.00?

Thanks!

@narcissi, you got an interesting setup there. I need sometime to go thru your problem before posting a reply.

@chinpokomon, I send in my suggestion sometime ago informing them about this and yet it's still not changed! Anyway, don't send to the one stated on the website instead send to support_asia@planex.com.sg, the tech support guy (Hong Fei) there is quite helpful.

@smsct, the mldonkey folder is created by default just that it does not appear in the browse list. By "creating" the folder using NAS webUI, a entry will be added to the samba config. Symbolic link in Linux is the same as shortcut in Windows.

@Zeratul, use Sancho or MLD webUI and change the default BT client port#. BT protocol require only TCP so there's no need to open up UDP.

These are my steps:
1. Running PuTTY on XP
2. Log into NAS.IP:22
3. ssh command prompt @ Busybox Shell (ASH)
4. use cp, mv and even chmod... etc. commands to manage files

So now I know its running Busybox - which means a lot...

For users who don't know much about Linux/Unix commands, it would be a steep learning curve, heres the command syntax:

One thing that I have notice that the harddisk on the NAS is very active (almost fulltime on, with intermittent blinking). It will remain normal only after turning off the unit & turning on again. I am just wondering what is happenning. Anyone has any idea?

Dr. Albert and other medical staff,

I didn't state the urgency to tune up the NAS in earlier posts, so I would like to share with you the symptoms and hopefully can reach a good diagnosis. The prognosis of the NAS will DIRECTLY influence my Marriage life and which really means my well-being.

You see I bought the NAS because I have my better-half on my back every hour about BT-ing Episodes of House, Greys Anatomy, Heroes, Sexy Dirty Money, Shark, Private Practice... (you know women with their TV episodes....) its so full that I can't even BT certain Japanese videos they call AV.. *sob*

A few bloodbaths later, the marriage counsellor has recommended the ONLY treatment of having a care-free BT environment, or I should continue to get bruised and to have the sh*t kicked out of my utter bottom.

I did enjoyed good speeds at first and things start deteriorating very quickly.
Heres a couple symptoms:

1. MLD is running at 1K/s constantly averaging a speed below 10K/s
2. Speeds of 100K/s would not sustain for more than a minute
3. Loading and reloading of the Web UI (4080) is SLOW or unresponsive
4. Often need to restart the NAS, and optionally restart Router + ADSL Modem

Here are some questions after going through 2 months worth of posts:

1. Will upgrading to 2.9.2 improve speed? or stability of speed?
2. Would the MLD get bogged down if I have too many files on QUEUE?
3. So if 2 is true then whats the optimum Queue the MLD can handle?
4. Heres the vital signs of the MLD, what are your best setting?

Thanks for your consult!

Guys, I already open up a communication channel but yet you guys are not using it. So far, I have help/assist 2 of our fellow NAS users with their problem/query over Skype chat session.

So, if you want quick response to your problem, you know where to find me.

Forget to mention, I will be posting less often here from now onward.

thanks for allz advice, Finally, got my nas back up!

went down to middle road to get the unit checked out and figured out that it works with DHCP DHCP (only on 192.168.1.x address??) and that my HDD was all messed up. Took me half a day to scan and reformat the HDD on a desktop, and all seems fine so far.:D

Wow they must be real techies...

DHCP working on only 1 subnet? Thats so cool, its like they don't know what DHCP is at all.

Dude, I don't know what your problems are, but you can set it on other subnet numbers, just make sure it is on the same subnet as your router. so if you set the router on 192.168.x.y, make sure the NAS is on the same x.

and I wouldn't count on those guys again on middle road (wherever it is, I am not in Spore).

agreed the DHCP kinda weird, not sure if it's just my hardware or just some quirk on fresh systems; but after spending more than a day on it, i' happy to take whatever works! Now happily working on a 192.168.2.x static address.
but gotta say the guys at planex singapore are quite ok, the guy helping me check it was friendly and helpful; i would't blame them for this nas being quite "touchy".

hi i just got my NAS 2 days ago and managed to install it today... i read through this thread and it is all about BT. I am interested but my first problem is to get my MX760HD (Media Player) to access the folder in NAS. I can see the folder in my media player but when I tried to access the folder, "Access Deny" was displayed. May I know how to overcome this problem?

BTW, i have set it to no authentication access for all users. I am currently using version 3.00. Would upgrading the firmware help?

Hope to solve this issue. After each, I will look into BT which is important as well... :)

Thank you in advance! :)

Got the NAS-01G during SITEX and generally it has been problem free... However, I want to use it to stream my media and connected my ext HDD to it directly last night to move my data files... But it takes forever to transfer! Moving just 38GB of data results in an estimated timing of 1 day 20 hours, way too long and not acceptable to me. Can anyone help? Is there anything wrong with what I am doing? Would switching my laptop to wired connection help to increase the transfer speed? I have about 100GB of data to transfer and I *really* want to find a quicker method to do so...

Ext HDD (FAT32) --> NAS-01G --> Movement of files by my laptop, connected wirelessly

Any help would be much appreciated!

Based on your current method, data from your Ext HDD need to be transfer to your router before reaching your laptop and from your laptop to the router before reaching the NAS. The bottleneck is the wireless connection. Using wired connection will speed-up the process.

The fastest way to do data transfer is to telnet into the NAS and perform a "move" using the mv command.

I am tired. Spent the past week tweaking the box. Isn't it more worth while to get a cheap PC Box, and dedicate it as an NAS with BT and the works? You can probably get a last gen PC 2nd hand easy with the same price.. run Linux on it, and you get to have some fun too, without having to do all the Telnetting and SSH...

Thing is.

I have bought the box already. And theres no way THIS community wouldn't figure things out so all the users can optimize use of the box. And although agonizing, thats the fun of it. Its using a lot less of power, call it environmental friendly if you may.

10 days after I bought the box, its at 49kB/s up and down on my Broadband that rated 500kB.
But I am gonna get to the bottom of this, and enjoy the process meanwhile.

And @Albert, I know you are busy and all, you mentioned you aren't gonna be on here, and I don't see you on Skype, I have posted a bunch of questions and you are, the most experienced, so I would really appreciate if you can help out, thanks!

@despair, this box doesn't come with telnetd function by default, it need to be added in via startup script.

@beesfan, the easiest way is to use the Reset Button on the rear. Press and hold it for 4 seconds to reset all configuration to factory default settings. Another way is to telnet into the box and view the config file located in the /etc folder. The admin password is stored in clear text.

@annai, look like there is a bug with the default wget (v1.9.1), the same command work on v1.10.2 on Debian rootfs.

Try the following
1- check if streaming works fine with wired.
2 - usingwireless, move your laptop nearer to the router, then try the streaming again. If streaming works fine, it means that your signal is too weak for your normal "working distance" of your laptop and the router.

Hi all,

Just bought the nas-01g box, and i've been reading this thread for 2 days already :s22:
so far, I've got the MLD 2.9.1 running, with much better speed compared to Planex's 2.8.2
I also tried both Albert's kill watchdog.sh script in backdoor file
and the other one by Joystick's

my question is....if i understand this correctly:

1. the "dowload-ing" files are kept in /mldonkey/incoming
2. once they're finished, the watchdog will move them to /Share/psp right??

and so by adding killall watchdog.sh in the backdoor script all the downloaded files will not be moved
hence the seeding continues (although the job was moved from downloading list (both in WebUI and sanSho)

now...the problem is...the files will still be in /mldonkey as long as i don't restart the box
once the box restarted, the watchdog will be loaded, the finished files moved, then watchdog killed by the backdoor script.

did i understand these correctly?
Is there anyway that i can 'stop' the uploaders and so i could move the files to the /Share/p2p/ and thus can be viewed?
(because the /mldonkey is normally hidden + permission restricted)

thank you

hello Joystick & Albertlee

I've been reading extensively, totabl unix noobie here :s12:

@Joystick

I tried to replace the watchdog.sh
It wasn't found initially in /etc/init.d

so what i did was i created a watchdog.sh in /mnt/Share
looks like this

# cat /etc/init.d/watchdog.sh
mv /mnt/mldonkey/incoming/directories/* /mnt/Share/p2p/ >/dev/null 2>&1 &
mv /mnt/mldonkey/incoming/files/* /mnt/Share/p2p/ >/dev/null 2>&1 &

and my backdoor looks like this

# cat /mnt/Share/backdoor
#!/bin/sh
killall watchdog.sh
cp /mnt/Share/watchdog.sh /etc/init.d/watchdog.sh
cd /tmp
rm /tmp/watchdog.lock
/etc/init.d/watchdog.sh &
cp /mnt/Share/telnetd /mnt
sed -i "/telnet/s/.*/telnet stream tcp nowait root telnetd/" /etc/inetd.conf
killall inetd
inetd

I've tried the links here (http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showpost.php?p=24651515&postcount=905)

and follow here (http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showpost.php?p=23728542&postcount=674) as much as i could understand.

are these correct?

by now all the downloaded file will stay in /mnt/mldonky/torrents/incoming
and the seeding will continue

until i restart the NAS
or sometimes i just run the /etc/init.d/watchdog.sh &
so the files were moved from /mnt/mldonkey/torrents/incoming to /mnt/Share/p2p like your script says

thanks very much for both of you Albertlee and Joystick, it has been great reading for me for the past 3 days :D

Hi,

Anyone can advise how to upgrade the hard disk. I'm trying to upgrade my hard disk from 80GB to 200GB, but some of my torrents are still downloading and I want to keep these downloads

@beesfan, use the su command to switch into root.

@ctong1976, very simple, just dump out the entire mldonkey folder to backup drive (PC or external USB drive). After replacing the HDD, proceed with the normal format, install firmware extension and restore back the mldonkey folder.

Albert, thanks but I am not able to get root privileges. I am trying to install an alternative BT client, say torrentflux. If I try to use apt-get without su it says I need root. If I use su it says 'unkonwn id: apt-get'. I'm sure I'm being a dummy, but I cannot figure it out. :s11:

How do I copy the MLDonkey since I cannot access it from file explorer? Do I need to use some special software. Pardon me as I'm not too good with telnet & stuff

@ctong1976, try this (not tested at all)

(1) Goto Admin screen and disable your P2P

(2) Goto MLDonkey web interface, you should get an error now (if MLDonkey is still up, don't proceed further)

(3) Put this into your backdoor script
mv /mnt/mldonkey /mnt/Share/mldonkey

(4) reboot your NAS

(5) Goto your share folder and you should now see the "mldonkey" folder.

(6) As per Albert instructions:
- backup all your files in the shared folder
- replace hard disks
- upgrade firmware

(7) Bootup your NAS, make sure everything look OK.

(8) goto Admin screen and disable your P2P

(9) Copy back all your files into your shared folder (including your mldonkey)

(10) put this into your backdoor script
mv /mnt/mldonkey /mnt/mldonkey.old
mv /mnt/Share/mldonkey /mnt/mldonkey

(11) reboot your NAS

(12) goto your shared folder (the mldonkey folder should be gone now)

(13) Goto Admin screen and enable P2P

(14) goto Mldonkey web ....check if your files are back there.

Above steps are not tested at all

Good luck.

@joystick Below is the link I used to get the Debian file. Unarchive the 2 files and place them in the Share folder on the NAS-01G. Reboot and it will install. I then used PUTTY to SSH into the Debian, using nas01g as username and password, as per Albert's instructions.

However, I was hoping to be able to install some additional packages, but have so far not been able to, because of file privilege issues, even when using su.

rename your current copy of backdoor script to backdoor.debian

Download this zip file:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/ieri4q

unzip the 2 files into your share folder. Reboot NAS

delete the 2 files (shadow and backdoor) from your share folder

rename back your original backdoor (aka backdoor.debian) to backdoor

reboot NAS again

you should be able to login to root using "12nas34abc"

Good luck.

@ctong1976, there are 2 ways to made mldonkey 'appear' in Windows explorer. The easiest way is to 'create' mldonkey folder using NAS webUI and assigned yourself R/W permission. For those who has telnet access, just create a symbolic link (shortcut) will do. Eg: ln -s /mnt/mldonkey /mnt/Share/mldonkey, this will create the link in Share folder under the same folder name.

@Architeuthis, thanks for the complement. Wish more can join in as there so much one can learn from each other.

@joystick, thought you have a workaround to the SSH problem.

@beesfan, what you need to do is to disable auto-loading of Debian and perform a chroot and change the root password. After which you can enable loading of Debian, you should be able to su and when prompt for root password just enter the one you assign earlier on. Skype me if you still have question.

Dear all, looks like this NAS-O1G is really a challenging machine to master. I just bought this in Sitex and wanted to use it to share files and stream media to my TV using XBOX.

I am facing a problem, when I try to scan the NAS on XBOX's XMBC, only few files appear (mp4 and 3gp) where there are lots of video files in the HDD. Those files with extension AVI, XVID and RMVB did not appear. I thought DLNA should support all type of files, does it have restriction?

Anyone knows how to configure or fix this problem?

@ktyong

I'm also using my XBOX to stream media from my NAS. So far I don't encountered any of your described problems. I can view and stream avi, rmvb and all other files. I believe your problem lies with the settings of the XBMC and not the NAS, or maybe try upgrading the NAS firmware

@ctong1976

I tested with my pc as client and the only files available from this NAS is similar to what it shown on my XBOX. So, I think the problem is with the NAS. I already have the latest firmware V3.33(09-14-2007) installed on the NAS. There isn't much to configure on the web, only enable/disable DLNA.

May I know what firmware version you are running?

Thanks,

albertlee
26-12-2007, 07:55 PM
@ktyong, DLNA and iTune server is only available in v3.33 firmware and you're right there is nothing to configure other than to enable the function. So your problem is more of a configuration issue on the Xbox side.

@ctong1976, it would be great if you can provide instruction on how to go about setting up XMBC.

I did not change any settings on my XBox, so all are default settings. I think the main problem he faced is that he cannot even see the files with a PC as a client. Great news to hear that you are setting up a forum:s12:

I did not put my files in the folder you mentioned. I put it under a folder I created. I will try it tonight and see if it works. I am not aware it only recognize files in specific folder. The strange thing is there are few files appear with extension .3gp and .mp4. These files also reside in the folder I created.

I tried using Nero Showtime on my PC to see if I see similar results as my xbox. I was suspecting the problem is XMBC configuration. Now, I am quite sure it is the NAS since the files appear on Nero is same as xbox.

hi,
this thread is pretty long, i did a search on it and could not find the relevant answare.
apologies if this has been asked before

1. i enabled the web server on the NAS. and set the web folder to point to my new folder called WEB. I then set the authorisation such that only 1 id can access the files in the folder, and the rest have no access. This setting does not seem to take effect. is it working as intended?

2. when ftp is enabled, is there a way to only display directories that the authorised id can view instead of showing all directories? when i 'cd' to the directory that i have no access to, i get permission denied. i would prefer that the directories i do not have access to not appear at all.

3. Is there a way to allocate hard disk space on each folder that has been created?

Apart from these questions, i'm pretty impressed with the device, only gripe is that it officeially supprots only up to 400gb ide hard disk :(

Hi all,

As per all, this is a mighty long thread. I had been spending a lot of time to read but it seems that I will not be able to finish reading in another 2 months. Anyway, I have read from Page 1 to 49, but the total pages is now 97.

I had bought NAS-01g for a few weeks already and started running BT. But the performance is really disappointing. I always get 1 to 20 kbps for dl speed. I had changed the config as follows based on the first 49 pages that I had read but it didn't help:

BT Tracker Port: 7881
BT Client Port: 7882

My firmware is 3.33 and I had configure my router/firewall to allow TCP/UDP traffic for ports 7880 to 7900 to my NAS. Porttest shows no error at all. I am using MLD2.8.2. By the way, I am using adsl plan.

I had been using emule in the past and was not able to get emule working here.

I am truly lost. Can anyone enlighten me, please? Really appreciate any help.

Hi, try ports above 40000. I use 45152 and 45352. works well for me. Also take note it sometime depends on the seeds as well when connection

As for edonky I usually go for ports above 15000.

Also, have your port forward ? did you configure the firewall to allow usae of the mentioned prots?

I had tried many different ports, above 9000, 12000 and 60000, but didn't work well for me. I will try your suggestions and let you know how it goees. As for the seeds, I have a reason to believe that the seeds I use are pretty good since my friend can get above 100kb/s for the same seed, while I can only get about 5 to 10kbs only.

By the way, can you tell me what is your BT dl speed? Does it maintain the speed or fluctuates?

And lastly, any idea how to add seeds for edonkey? The MLD web interface don't seems to be able to add in seeds/ed2k links. What about adding more edonkey servers? I had tried to add server.met but not able to. Lastly, how do I get the edonkey to achive "High ID"?

Many thanks in advance and sorry for so many questions.

My bittorrent downloads does fluctuates but udually when I do hit high speed it maintaines. Only some torrents gives me download delays. S It's definitely due to the source.. Highest I ever got was about 700kb

try this other trick: iIn the MLDonkey interface, go to OPTIONS and under the PLUGIN pull down menu select BITTORRENT. change the BT-user_agent to uTorrent/1750

all i had to do was:

Juz need to put the backdoor and telnet file into your Share folder and reboot n U will be able to telnet in using programs like putty. U will oso need to obtain a copy of albertlee's MLDonkey for your p2p downloads. Well, do your necessary port forwarding and you shd be ready to go.

I have just set up my NAS-01G (Firmware Version 3.33), and the HTTP/FTP server functions are working well.

However even after turning on the P2P function, I can't seem to access the mldonkey folder. It does not show up under "My Network Places". When I try to access it via the command prompt using \\192.168.1.2\mldonkey , a "Network Path Not Found" error is thrown up.

I can see the mldonkey folder present when I access the NAS via FTP. However, I cannot enter the folder with the admin password - a 550 Permission Denied error is thrown up.

I don't want to use the PNMD Utility provided by Planex. How should I circumvent the problem and enter the mldonkey folder?

I've just switched to using rtorrent. The funny thing is my rtorrent can't read the rtorrent.rc file, but still can start downloading. I have no way to detect the speed and can't change the port no and other configurations. I don't know why?? My rtorrent.rc file is in the debian/etc/rtorrent.rc folder. Thanks!

P.S. I tried to reinstall rtorrent and now it seems that it was gone! Any rtorent expert pls help!! Thanks.

Hi!!!!

I have a Longshine 8311 NAS, I need to update mldonkey to the latest version (it currently has 2.8.2 that doesn't support files bigger than 4 GB). Can you help me? I don't know where to get this update and how to install it in my NAS.

I emailed PCI support about my PS3 access problem. After testing out their advice, I managed to playback some files off my NAS-01G.

It seems that NAS-01G can only stream mp3 and mp4 files to PS3. According to PCI support, it seems that PS3 implementation of DIVX has some issues which does not allow it to be streamed via DLNA.

Sometimes my PS3 cannot detect NAS-01G. PCI support adviced to reboot NAS-01G, especially after you copy some files to the NAS.

The more accurate reading should be about 93 Mbits/s.

My setup is a PCI dual gga intel network card teamed as 1 and connect to DLINK giga switch.

2 BT slots which I can't seem to get it working. Sorry, No experience in BT.
