Henry Barca move turns spotlight on Wenger
Arsene Wenger's future has been thrown into fresh doubt after Thierry Henry claimed the Arsenal manager's refusal to sign a new contract was the main reason he is joining Barcelona.
Talismanic captain Henry was today on the verge of a £16million move to Spain, with the Gunners confirming only a medical and other formalities had yet to be completed.
Wenger's current deal expires at the end of the forthcoming season and, although he has vowed not to walk away from Emirates Stadium before then, he has avoided making any commitment beyond that.
Henry, 29, has been a disciple of Wenger since their days at Monaco 15 years ago, and he fears his mentor will quit next summer.
In an open letter to supporters published in The Sun, the France striker said: 'Arsene has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
'Unfortunately and understandably, he has said that at this moment he will not commit to the club past the expiration of his current deal which finishes at the end of the coming season.'
Henry, Arsenal's record scorer with 226 goals in 364 games over his eight seasons, has already expressed his disappointment at the acrimonious exit of vice-chairman David Dein and insists he cannot risk losing Wenger as well.
He added: 'I respect his decision and his honesty but I will be 31 at the end of next season and I cannot take the chance to be there without Arsene Wenger and David Dein.'
Ironically, Wenger may feel the same about the departure of Henry, who he converted from a struggling winger into one of the most feared forwards in the world after bringing him to the club eight years ago.
The studious Frenchman has earned a reputation as one of the most astute talent-spotters in the game, creating a conveyor belt of outstanding young players which has in turn allowed him to replace many of the Arsenal's big names.
But it is no secret he saw Henry's vast experience as vital to helping nuture much of that talent.
Lacking the financial muscle of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool, Wenger would have also been able to use his captain to attract players to Emirates Stadium.
Many of the Gunners' transfer targets may be dissuaded from joining if they believe both Henry and Wenger will not be at the club from next summer.
World Cup winner Henry has reportedly agreed a four-year deal with Barca.
The Spanish club's vice-president Ferran Soriano confirmed last night talks were at an 'advanced' stage.
He revealed it was 'the wish of all parties' for an agreement to be reached and Henry could be presented as a Barca player on Monday.
Soriano admitted recent big-money transfers in Europe dictated how much it would cost his club to take the striker - who turns 30 in August - to Catalonia.
'There is a certain inflation in the transfer fees with respect to last year,' Soriano told Catalan radio station RAC1.
'We can check it [the Henry deal] with the signing of Ribery for Bayern (£17million) and those of Nani and Anderson, who are 18, for Manchester United (£34million).
'There are players who last year cost 10million euros (£6.7million) and now they cost 15million (£10.1million).'
Henry added: 'This is solely my decision, no-one has forced me to do anything and I will represent myself in this transaction. I feel it is something I just had to do.
'Barcelona are a wonderful club steeped in tradition and play beautiful football. I'm sure I will be very happy there.
'But I will miss the Arsenal fans dearly, they have supported me through thick and thin.
'They will always be in my heart, as will all the fans who make the game here so special. I will always have a special bond with Arsenal Football Club.'
Barca later released a statement saying they expected to agree personal terms with Henry 'in the next few hours'.

Valuation to scupper Villa's move for Reo-Coker?
Aston Villa could be forced to cool their interest in signing West Ham midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker because the two clubs are 'poles apart' in terms of agreeing a fee.
Villa are happy to pay around £7million for Reo-Coker who was part of the England Under-21 side which reached the semi-finals of the European Championships in Holland.
But sources close to Villa indicate the Hammers want in the region of £10-£12million for the player who cost £500,000 when he moved to Upton Park from Wimbledon five years ago.
Reo-Coker is believed to have spoken with the Hammers board in a bid to get them to drop the asking price to what he feels is a realistic figure.
A Villa source said: 'Reo-Coker wants to come to Aston Villa but in terms of agreeing a price, the two clubs are poles apart.'
Villa manager Martin O'Neill returns from holiday next week and is keen to start rebuilding his squad before players report back for pre-season training on July 4.
Villarreal striker Diego Forlan is amongst his striking targets as he seeks to find a partner for John Carew.
O'Neill also has to sort out the future of several of his fringe players in the next couple of weeks.
Northern Ireland international Steven Davis will be allowed to leave if the price is right - around £5million - with Fulham, Manchester City, Middlesbrough and Reading linked with the player.
Central defender Liam Ridgewell is a target for Birmingham, defender Aaron Hughes is interesting Fulham, midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba is wanted by Benfica and keeper Stuart Taylor is on Cardiff's radar.
Number one keeper Thomas Sorensen is also likely to be surplus to requirements as he enters the final year of his current contract.
dun think he'll stay at west ham next season.... every season got link away.... similar to thierry henry

Newcastle ready to fight Man City interest in Owen
Newcastle are hopeful of fighting off any approach from Manchester City for England striker Michael Owen.
Uncertainty has mounted over the 27-year-old forward's future on Tyneside ever since it emerged he has a get-out clause in his contract which would allow him to leave St James' Park for as little as £9million.
Speculation that Sven-Goran Eriksson, who worked with the player during his spell as England boss, could try to take Owen to Manchester City should he be appointed by prospective new owner Thaksin Shinawatra has done little to ease the anxiety on Tyneside.
However, there is a growing feeling within the camp that the former Real Madrid frontman, who has made only 14 appearances for the club in two seasons because of injury problems, will still be wearing the black and white shirt next season.
Owen has yet to comment publicly on his future and has two years of his contract still to run.
However, manager Sam Allardyce has discussed his plans with the player, and while he admits there would be little he could do to prevent him leaving should another club trigger the clause, he will hope he has persuaded him to form a new-look strike force with summer signing Mark Viduka and perhaps Obafemi Martins.
The 22-year-old Nigerian also has an escape clause - set at £13million - but appears to have committed himself to the club after a controversial conclusion to his first season on Tyneside.
Allardyce would happily go into the new season with Owen, Martins, Viduka, Shola Ameobi and youngster Andy Carroll giving him options in attack.
However, he knows he needs a back-up plan and has been linked with the likes of Fredi Kanoute, Nicolas Anelka and El-Hadji Diouf, as well as former Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy.
But there was consternation on Tyneside and beyond today at reports that the club has sealed a move for Manchester United's Alan Smith.
Both the Magpies and the Smith camp were quick to play down the suggestion with the 26-year-old not due to return from holiday until early next month, when he will seek assurances about his future at Old Trafford.
Middlesbrough and Sunderland are understood to be interested in securing his services if he becomes available.
Meanwhile, Albert Luque has been told he could still have a future at St James' Park after the collapse of his proposed loan move to PSV Eindhoven.
New signing Joey Barton has been handed the 29-year-old's number seven shirt, but Allardyce is adamant he could yet force his way into contention after a desperately disappointing two years since his £9.5million switch from Deportivo la Coruna.
The manager said: 'I feel far too many players have got lost at this football club and it is my responsibility to make sure that does not happen to any current member of the staff or any new player I might bring in.
'One of the reasons I was successful at Bolton Wanderers was transforming a foreign player out of whatever country he had come from into a Premiership player.
'That's because we found out what problems he had as early as early as we possibly could.
'I don't want to be too critical of what has happened here in the past, but in my opinion, there has not be enough focus on what is happening in a player's life away from the training ground and the club.
'Has he got the right lifestyle? Is he living in the right place for him and his family? In fact, it's not just the player but his wife and family.
'But once that is sorted out, you get the best out of player and this is something I have got to try to work out with Albert Luque.
'He might be too far gone, who knows? But we might still be able to resurrect his career here. We will see.'
that day on tv, thaksin said the new manager will be someone who can lure players to man city... those player that "work with him before"...

Milan rivals end feud over Cagliari's Suazo
ROME, June 23 (Reuters) - The tug-of-war between AC Milan and city rivals Inter Milan over the signing of Cagliari striker David Suazo ended on Saturday, when Milan announced they were withdrawing their claim on the player.
'Having learned that the player had already signed a contract with Inter, Milan have pulled out of negotiations,' read a statement on Milan's website.
The face-off between the Serie A giants began last week, when Cagliari president Massimo Cellino, frustrated at the slow pace of earlier negotiations with Inter, said he had decided to sell Suazo to Milan.
Milan announced the transfer had been completed. Inter hit back, however, saying the player had already signed for them.
The 27-year-old Honduras international scored 14 league goals last season having developed into one of the most dangerous strikers in Italy.
In the 2005-06 season he scored 22 Serie A goals for Cagliari, breaking the club record of 21 league goals in a season that former Italy international Gigi Riva set in 1970.
At the Italian Football Oscars in January this year, Suazo shared the award for best foreign player in Serie A with Milan's Brazilian playmaker Kaka.
The tussle is sure to fuel a simmering feud between the two Milan clubs, whose rivalry was intensified by Inter's league title and AC Milan's Champions League triumph last season.
An anti-Inter banner unfurled on AC Milan's open-top bus during their Champions League celebrations also added spice.

Premiership - Transfer talk: Gunning for Nic
Eurosport - Sun, 24 Jun 10:36:00 2007
Premiership - If Sunday's newspapers are to be believed, this weekend has not been spent in front of the telly watching the Euro Under-21 or the Copa Del Rey finals; football's movers and shakers have apparently been locked in boardrooms across the continent, thrashing out deals for new players instead.
More StoriesHow much will Arsenal miss Henry?
And the best of the rumours is that Nicolas Anelka could be making a return to Arsenal, the club where he started his Premiership career before leaving rather acrimoniously for Real Madrid.
The 'Incredible Sulk' is seen as the ideal replacement for Barcelona-bound Thierry Henry at the Emirates after having mellowed somewhat during the eight years since he left north London.
Anelka has already made it clear he would leave Bolton if a bigger club came in for him, and manager Arsene Wenger is thought to have sought assurances from the Arsenal board to bring in the former enfant terrible before Henry was sold.
Wenger is also believed to want to strengthen his midfield and has set his sights on the Italian capital where two youngsters have caught his eye. Roma's Under-21 international Alberto Aquilani impressed during the recent tournament in Holland, while 19-year-old Lazio player Lorenzo De Silvestri is being tracked as he enters his final year under contract at the Stadio Olimpico.
Italians be warned though - few succeed in the Premiership, as Manchester City's Bernardo Corradi knows only too well. The striker is "90%" certain of returning to his homeland after a miserable 12 months in England, according to his agent.
Should Anelka go, Bolton will have to buy Djibril Cisse outright if they are to bring in the France forward as a replacement. The Liverpool-owned player will not be loaned out again as Reds manager Rafael Benitez wants to sell him on a permanent deal.
Meanwhile, former Liverpool ace Michael Owen has been told Liverpool don't want him back. The England hitman has been linked with a move away from Newcastle after a nightmare start to his Magpies career, but a return to Merseyside is not on the cards.
Another player who will not be wearing a Liverpool shirt next season is Roma's Brazilian winger Mancini after the Serie A club rejected an offer for his services and more bad news for Benitez is that he faces stiff competition for the signature of Mancini's compatriot Daniel Alves. Real Madrid are also in the hunt for the Sevilla full-back and look set to gazump the Reds in their bid for the Brazil international.
Those Fernando Torres rumours just refuse to go away. This time it is Manchester United who are back in for the Spain hitman, and not only to spite Liverpool, who are also after him. United are still searching for a striker after Fabio Quagliarella - now fully owned by Udinese - revealed he would to stay in Italy. Manager Alex Ferguson could sell any number of Alan Smith, Alan Smith or Giuseppe Rossi to raise funds.
Should the Torres bid fail, there is no shortage of candidates wanting to go to Old Trafford; Juventus youngster Michele Paolucci is eyeing a move to the Premiership with United: "If Alex Ferguson calls me to join Manchester United, it wouldn't take a minute to make up my mind and to England," he said.
And Seville ace Fredi Kanoute - fresh from sealing a cup double with the Liga side this season - has been offered to Ferguson, although the former Spurs and West Ham man does not feature on United's wanted list.
Should Manchester City's bid to bring Sven-Goran Eriksson to Eastlands fail, the latest back-up plan features Celtic manager Gordon Strachan. Although quite how popular a former United player running the show in the blue half of town will be is debateable.
Elsewhere, West Ham are set to bid £5.5million for England Under-21 star Leighton Baines, while Marlon Harewood is on the verge of leaving Upton Park.
Fulham are set to clinch £5.5million signing of striker Diomansy Kamara from Championship side West Brom, with Heidar Helgusson going the other way. Meanwhile Wayne Routledge could be on his way to the Hawthorns as the winger is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.
Newcastle and Celtic are both hunting NAC Breda youngster Maceo Rigters after his impressive performances for Holland in the Euro Under-21 Championships and now Jussi Jaaskelainen is staying with Bolton, Sunderland manager Roy Keane has turned his focus to Liverpool reserve goalkeeper Scott Carson.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to make a sensational £11 million bid for Bolton Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka.
The News of the World says Emirates skipper Thierry Henry is set to join Barcelona for £16m tomorrow after a medical and Wenger's top target to replace him is Bolton's former Gunner Anelka.
A source close to the Arsenal boss said: "Arsene reluctantly allowed Thierry to go. It is sad for everyone concerned but Thierry made it clear that this is what he wants to do. And Arsene definitely believes Anelka is the ideal replacement."
It's reported Wenger has already held preliminary talks with Anelka's people to sound him out about a move to the Emirates.

American billionaire Stan Kroenke has offered to cover Arsenal's summer transfer plans - but the club's directors are determined to go it alone.
The Guardian says Kroenke has suggested ploughing fresh funds into the club.
"It seems that the anxiety about Stan Kroenke and his intentions has been well documented," said a source close to the American billionaire. "But he'd like to support Arsenal."
Kroenke's proposal was made during a summit this month involving the American, the Arsenal chairman, Peter Hill-Wood, and the club's managing director, Keith Edelman.
But the American was informed that the club's finances are sound and extra money was not required from outside to fund player purchases.

Anelka swoop on cards for Gunners
Arsene Wenger is lining up an £11million swoop for Nicolas Anelka as a replacement for Thierry Henry, according to Sunday's press.
Henry, 29, is expected to complete a £16million switch to Barcelona on Monday and the News of the World, amongst others, believes Wenger sees former Gunner Anelka as the ideal man to step into his shoes.
The Bolton hitman is believed to favour a move back to his former hunting ground, where he netted 28 goals in a two-year spell from 1997 to 1999.
Wenger has maintained a close link with Anelka, 28, despite the striker's acrimonious departure from Arsenal when he joined Real Madrid in a £22million deal in 1999.
If Wenger fails to lure Anelka the Arsenal boss will make a move for Ajax stars Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Ryan Babel.
Huntelaar, 24, bagged 37 goals in 48 appearances for the Dutch giants last term and Wenger rates him highly.
While Babel, 20, starred for the Holland Under-21s and scored in Sunday's final as they retained the European Championships with a 4-1 win over Serbia.

Paris Saint Germain's David Rozehnal has arrived in the North East to finalise his move to Newcastle United.
The Magpies have held off stern competition to land the Czech defender - a story first revealed on skysports.com.
Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce tried to sign Rozehnal in January for Bolton, but he finally looks to have secured his man for his new club.
Both Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla showed a strong interest, but it was Newcastle who managed to strike a deal with PSG.
Allardyce made strengthening his defence his main priority, after securing deals for Mark Viduka and Joey Barton earlier this month, and Rozehnal looks set to put pen-to-paper in the next 48 hours.

Eriksson on verge of taking Manchester City job
Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson could today end his year-long exile from the game by being named Manchester City's new boss.
It is understood the former England coach is poised to sign a lucrative contract at Eastlands.
Prospective owner Thaksin Shinawatra's advisors believe the 59-year-old Swede is the man to take City forward and establish the club as a force in the Barclays Premiership.
Eriksson is keen to return to work after a year-long absence from the game.
And Thaksin has promised him a £50million transfer kitty to dip into. That kind of money should attract some top names.
The landscape at City could be about to change dramatically but one of their brightest young stars has re-affirmed his commitment to the club.
England Under-21 defender Nedum Onuoha has signed a new four-year contract after playing in the European Championships.
Onuoha, who joined City's youth set up when he was 10, is excited about the future.
'I like to think I have been improving game-on-game and season-on-season,' he told the club's website:
'When I compare myself to two years ago, I think there is a massive difference in my performances.
'It doesn't seem that long since I first signed a deal at the academy but I've spent half of my life with this club now.'
Chief executive Alistair Mackintosh is delighted Onuoha has extended his career with City until 2011.
He said: 'We opened talks with Nedum a couple of months ago and had to wait until the under-21 tournament was over before the deal could be concluded.
'Nedum's contract extension re-affirms Manchester City's commitment to having a first team squad with the very best young, home-grown, talent and securing their long-term futures at the club.'
City return to training on July 4 and Onuoha hopes to have shrugged off a groin strain by then.
He said: 'As I get older I'm realising that I've got to listen to what my body's telling me.
'In the past, when something's not felt right I've carried on playing and that's made things worse.
'Now, if something's not right then I'm not going to take a chance. This is only a two-week injury but in the past that could have turned into two months because I had carried on.'

Trezeguet pens new Juve deal
David Trezeguet has extinguished speculation linking him with Arsenal by signing a contract extension with Juventus.
The France international striker will remain in Turin until June 2011 after agreeing a new contract following promotion from Serie B last season.
Trezeguet, 29, along with the likes of Gianluigi Buffon, Alessandro Del Piero and Pavel Nedved, opted to remain with La Vecchia Signora a year ago despite their demotion for their central role in the infamous corruption scandal in Italy.
Trezeguet, a close friend of Thierry Henry, has long been linked with a move to Arsenal and speculation intensified following the latter's switch to Barcelona this week.
However a statement on the Juve website, juventus.it, said: 'Juventus Football Club has extended David Trezeguet's contract until 30 June, 2011.
'The French centre forward was welcomed at Juventus' headquarters by the president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli and by the CEO Jean-Claude Blanc and signed the contract that binds him to the club until that date.
'Trezeguet has been playing in Juventus since the year 2000, after the golden goal scored against Italy in the European Championship final.
'He scored 145 goals with the black and white jersey in these seven years, being the foreign player who scored the highest number of goals of the whole history of Juventus.'
Juve's rebuilding towards their bid to regain the league title they were stripped of last year has already seen Claudio Ranieri appointed Didier Deschamps' successor as manager.
Former Chelsea midfielder Tiago has joined Italy striker Vincenzo Iaquinta and Empoli's Sergio Bernardo Almiron in arriving in Turin so far this summer.

Nothing surprising... Last season, they spent so much on paying their new stars, Ballack and Shev.. Plus they still got 2 pay for a bunch of players who got no contribution for the first-team game... So I think they shld just keep it that way... And as for other top 3 clubs from last season, Arsenal already sold T.Henry, so mebbe their £16m can be put into good use...
As for Liverpool and Man Utd, for the latter, all they did is BUYING and not selling *sad* (hope we can get rid of one particular guy, R'son and not Smudge or Rossi) and one of Liverpool's new owners already said they will not buy PANICKY, so which means they wun anyhow waste $ unnecessarily...

Geremi closes on switch to Newcastle
Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce is closing in on a deal to take Chelsea utility man Geremi to St James' Park.
It is understood the Magpies are hopeful of securing the 28-year-old Cameroon international on a Bosman free transfer as he approaches the end of his four-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Geremi, who spent a season on loan at Middlesbrough from Real Madrid earlier in his career, made 23 starts and five substitute appearances for the Blues last season.
However, with Paulo Ferreira and Lassana Diarra competing for the right-back spot and Jose Mourinho boasting an embarrassment of riches in midfield, his future chances look limited.
Boro have repeatedly been linked with their former player this summer, although the Teessiders have insisted they have not been in the market for him.
But the Magpies, who hope to announce the signing of Czech Republic defender David Rozehnal later today, are desperate to strengthen at the back.
Ironically, the right-back spot is one in which they have cover, although midfielder Nolberto Solano was used as an emergency defender in that position last season when Stephen Carr was either injured or having to play on the left.
However, Geremi's versatility could prove invaluable as Allardyce re-shapes his squad.
The manager has also been pursuing an interest in Marseille captain Habib Beye after releasing Titus Bramble, Craig Moore, Oguchi Onyewu and Olivier Bernard within days of his arrival at St James'.
Geremi's arrival would see him follow the same path as Damien Duff, who left Chelsea for Newcastle in a £5million switch last summer.

Liverpool's hopes of landing top target Fernando Torres hang in the balance as talks continue with Atletico Madrid over the £27m-rated striker.
Atletico president Enrique Cerezo says Liverpool have not tabled a bid for the 23-year-old Spain striker.
But BBC Sport understands discussions between the clubs are ongoing and have now reached a crucial stage.
Atletico are reluctant to sell, but Torres is believed to be keen to link up with Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.
Torres is currently on holiday until early July, but Benitez remains hopeful of having a deal in place by then.
He has drawn up a list of alternatives should he fail to sign Torres, and this includes PSV Eindhioven striker Arouna Kone, Ajax's Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Real Zaragoza striker Diego Milito.
Liverpool are reluctant to pay the £27m release clause in Torres' contract, and Benitez does not want to part with midfield man Luis Garcia, who is reported to be interesting Atletico.
Benitez wants to land Torres to provide a spearhead for an assault on the title - and also allow new owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks to demonstrate their own financial commitment to his plans.
Torres has been consistently linked with a move to England, particularly with Arsenal and Chelsea, but Liverpool are now at the head of the queue.
If he signs, he will join fellow countrymen Garcia, Pepe Reina and Xabi Alonso, as well as boss Benitez.
Atletico had earlier played down Liverpool's interest, with president Cerezo saying: "We've had no offer from Liverpool for Torres. He's on his holiday and resting.
"I repeat that there has been nothing about Torres from any team. We're now working to create a good team for the coming year."
Torres, 23, scored 14 league goals in 36 starts this season as Atletico finished seventh in La Liga.
The Spanish international's Atletico contract runs until 2009.
Torres came up though the youth ranks at Atletico and has been their leading scorer in each of the last five seasons.

Atletico fans revolt as Torres move nears
Atletico Madrid are facing a fans' revolt over the likely sale of striker Fernando Torres to Liverpool.
Talks between the two clubs over a potential £25million move for the Spanish international have taken place between officials.
But the Madrid club are facing a backlash from their own supporters, unhappy at the prospect of their idol being sold to the Champions League finalists.
Atletico fans have staged a protest in a Madrid square against the sale of the 23 year-old, a youth product of the club who has constantly professed his love for the team he has supported since childhood.
That pressure is likely to delay any deal at least until the player returns from holiday on July 10.
And Atletico will now be even more determined to extract every last penny from Liverpool, so that they can sell the deal to their fans as having got best possible financial outcome.
Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has insisted no official bid has been made by Liverpool and the Merseysiders may now have to wait for Torres to return to pre-season training in the hope he will force the issue then by declaring that he wants to move to Anfield.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez's own agent is believed to be attempting to broker the deal, with the Anfield chief needing to produce some genuine movement in his transfer deals before the team return to training at the beginning of July, ahead of their first pre-season friendly at Wrexham on July 7.
Officials also say they are unaware of any clause in Torres' contract entitling the player to 10% of any transfer fee, despite reports to the contrary.
As well as Torres, it is believed that Benitez's has other targets include PSV striker Arouna Kone, Ajax's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Diego Milito at Real Zaragoza.
Liverpool's first group of players report back to Melwood tomorrow for pre-season training.
Missing, however, will be Emiliano Insua and new signing Lucas Leiva, who take part in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup which opens in Canada this weekend.
Insua is in the Argentina squad, while summer signing Leiva is an integral member of Brazil's team. The 24-nation tournament runs from Saturday until July 22.
Argentina are defending their crown and kick-off their campaign on Saturday against the Czech Republic in Ottawa. Brazil's tournament starts five hours earlier against Poland in Montreal.

Barcelona Not Done With Arsenal?
According to a report in The Mirror, Barcelona's will now try to lure Cesc Fabregas away from Arsenal.
The Catalan giants have just signed Thierry Henry for around 24 million euros, a move that has created a certain degree of uncertainty around The Emirates.
Barcelona now seem ready to make the most of that and also prise Cesc Fabregas away from the Gunners, according to the Mirror.
Fabregas, a former Barcelona youth team player, was signed by Arsenal from right under their noses as they waited for him to turn 16, and Joan Laporta and Co. have always wanted to bring him back.
The player himself has shown a willingness to return, saying: "It is my dream to return to Barcelona, my childhood club, one day."
With Deco set to leave the club, and Arsenal amid uncertainty, the Barca bosses believe this is the moment to land him, and have prepared a 15 million pound offer (just over 22 million euros).
However, there will be very stiff competition, as Real Madrid are also keeping an eye on the situation, and are almost certain to make an aggressive offer if Barcelona get close.
Arsenal have sounded a 'hands off' warning in an attempt to ward off any such approaches, but the report suggests that unless Arsene Wenger stabilizes the club by committing to a new contract soon, the young midfielder will also want out.

so if cesc contract is left with a sum worth of 40m, barca can still bid 15m for cesc, so wad happen is arsenal is cesc wont earn 40m, arsenal earn 15m.
dont sound like arsenal on the losing side, does it? since they dun pay cesc 40m 1 shot for his 8 year contract.

Arsenal To Meet Martins' £13m Clause - Report
The Sun claim that Arsenal will splash out on Obefami Martins as they look for Thierry Henry's replacement.
The Nigerian international moved to Newcastle from Inter Milan last summer, and despite having been hampered by injury, scored 17 goals in his first season in England to impress one and all at the club.
However, his Tyneside future has been thrown into uncertainty since Sam Allardyce took over as coach, and the recent signing of Mark Viduka seems to suggest that either he or Michael Owen will leave the club.
There have been suggestions that Big Sam would not mind cashing in on one of the two players in order to generate more transfer funds.
He is set to speak with both of them, following which he will take a final decision.
However, The Sun claim that Arsenal will force Allardyce's hand by meeting the Nigerian's £13million buy-out clause.
Arsene Wenger is looking for a striker with a good combination of pace, power and precision in order to replace Henry, and Martins fits the bill better than most in this price range.
The report also claims, though, that Arsenal have yet to make any formal approach for the striker.

Tottenham To Sign Darren Bent Today
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly close to signing England striker Darren Bent from Charlton Athletic at last.
According to BBC Sport, the 23-year-old forward will become a Spurs player later today after the two clubs struck a compomise deal over the fee.
Charlton have been asking £17million for Bent, and although West Ham United last week agreed to meet that price, the player himself rejected the chance to link up again with Hammers boss Alan Curbishley, who had managed him at Charlton.
While that left the way clear for Spurs, the North London Premiership club's valuation of the player was some distance short of the South London Championship side's.
Indeed, Tottenham had earlier had a £13million bid turned down by the Addicks.
But the two clubs reached a compromise agreement on the fee on Wednesday, BBC Sport understands.
Although Liverpool were also interested in Bent, they have switched their energies to the pursuit of Atletico Madrid's Spanish striker Fernando Torres.
Curbishley had signed Bent for Charlton from Ipswich Town two years ago. The fee then was £2.75million.
It is thought that Bent turned down West Ham in the hope that Spurs or Liverpool would meet Charlton's asking price for him.
If Tottenham do complete the deal, they may allow Jermain Defoe to leave White Hart Lane.
The former Charlton and West Ham striker, 24, has been linked with apparent interest from Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Auxerre Admit Sagna Wants Arsenal Move
Auxerre president Gerard Bougoin has admitted that club are helpless to keep Arsenal bound defender Bakari Sagna.
The Gunners have already had a £6m bid for the 24-year-old rejected, but the move has done enough to unsettle the player, who has theatened to stay away from the club's pre-season training if he is denied his move.
Auxerre president Gerard Bourgoin said: "Sagna has a deep desire to play in England and he genuinely wants to wear the Arsenal shirt. They seem keen to sign him as well. The conditions for him to leave have not all been met — at least for the time being."
The move would be a transfer boost for Arsenal as Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his over-stretched squad, although it remains to be seen if the Gunners will meet the transfer fee Auxerre are holding out for.

Tottenham agree fee for striker Bent
Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to pay Charlton Athletic £16.5million for England striker Darren Bent, according to reports.
MikeHewitt/GettyImages
Darren Bent: £16.5m striker
The two clubs have been wrangling over the transfer fee for the past two weeks.
Bent, who scored 15 goals last season, turned down a £17m switch to West Ham United and Charlton were holding out for a similar offer from Spurs after their initial bid of £13m.
Having increased the offer Bent, who was always likely to move on after Charlton's relegation from the Premiership last term, is now expected to have a medical at White Hart Lane on Friday before signing a lucrative contract with Spurs.
Bent scored 37 goals in his two seasons at The Valley - he reached double figures in the last campaign despite knee problems - which earned him two England caps and made it virtually impossible for Addicks manager Alan Pardew to keep him in the Championship.
He bolsters a Spurs attack that scored more than 60 goals last season, and that was without Mido who is expected to leave White Hart Lane.
Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane were Jol's first choice for the big games, with Jermain Defoe adding 18 goals as the third striker.
The form of Berbatov and Keane means Bent would start at least third choice, while Defoe's chances of first-team opportunities are even less clear.
Jol plans to compete in all cup competitions as well as push Arsenal for a Champions League place, and he spoke last season of the need for four strikers.
Charlton brought Chris Iwelumo and Luke Varney to The Valley in preparation for Bent's departure.
Spurs, meanwhile, have been linked with Auxerre's Younes Kaboul since the end of the season.
Kaboul's agent, Rudy Raba said. 'We will see what happens in the next couple of days.
'I hope that everything will happen before the start of pre-season.'

Tevez turns down Internazionale
West Ham United forward Carlos Tevez has turned down a move to Inter Milan after the Serie A champions imposed a deadline for him to make a decision.
The Argentina international, who is currently in Venezuela for his country's Copa America campaign, has been linked to several clubs in England and abroad but is keen to remain in the Premier League.
A statement from Tevez's representative Kia Joorabchian said: 'Inter put a deadline on the decision and Carlos' heart is really in the Premier League, so he was not prepared to meet that cut-off point.'
The tenacious forward recovered from a difficult start to life in Britain following his move from Corinthians last summer to win over Hammers fans and neutrals alike, and was instrumental in the club's successful battle to avoid relegation.
West Ham are understandably keen to keep him and are involved in negotiations about his future.
Real Madrid, Liverpool and Inter were among the clubs strongly linked with a move for the 23-year-old but Inter have seemingly ruled themselves out of the running due to their demands.
Negotiations are ongoing with the Hammers which could see Tevez remain at Upton Park after all.
Joorabchian, who heads up Media Sports Investments, revealed reports that Tevez has been offered £100,000 by the Hammers to stay are 'absolutely not true'.
'He has not been offered that sum of money to stay, but it is true we are still talking and hope to come to some arrangement.'

Allardyce In Barcelona For Edmilson And Gudjohnsen
Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce is in Barcelona to discuss the transfers of Edmilson and Eirud Gudjohnsen.
The two players find themselves on the outer at the Camp Nou following the signings of Yaya Toure and Thierry Henry, and a summer exit looms.
Reports out of both England and Spain suggest that Newcastle officials, led by Allardyce, have travelled to Barcelona early this morning to hold talks.
Big Sam is a known admirer of Gudjohnsen, having introduced him to Premiership back in 1998 when signing him for Bolton.
Edmilson, a World Cup, Copa Amercia, Ligue1, La Liga and Champions League winner, meanwhile, is being looked upon as the man to bring some experience to the Newcastle midfield.
There are a couple of hiccups, though.
While Barcelona might accept a £7 million bid for Gudjohnsen, his 3.2 million euro annual salary will need to be brought down in order for Newcastle to afford him.
Edmilson, meanwhile, has been ruled out for 4-6 months after a knee surgery, and will be looked at very closely by the Newcastle medical team before any move can go through.
Barcelona could accept an offer in the region on £4m for him.
Edmilson will be a good signing, a defender with a good range of passing. As for Gudjohnson, proven in epl. Looks like Owen or Martins could go.

Allardyce closes on Barcelona's Edmilson
Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce is looking to tie up a deal for Barcelona defender Edmilson after the player indicated he is willing to move to Tyneside.
Allardyce, chairman Freddy Shepherd's son Kenneth and European scout Paul Montgomery flew to Catalonia yesterday afternoon after Barca president Joan Laporte gave Newcastle permission to talk to the player.
The 30-year-old Brazilian World Cup winner, who can also play a midfield holding role, is currently sidelined after knee surgery and is likely to be out for between four and six months.
However, Allardyce is still keen on the player and the Magpies believe he could play in October or November.
He has a year left on his existing contract but Newcastle are confident they can land him for a nominal fee.
The club have inquired too, about striker Eidur Gudjohnsen's situation with Thierry Henry's arrival from Arsenal sparking fresh speculation his days at the Nou Camp could be numbered.
The Iceland international, who has also been linked with derby rivals Sunderland and Manchester United this summer, worked briefly under Allardyce at Bolton.
Newcastle currently have five senior forwards on the books - Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins, Mark Viduka, Shola Ameobi and Andy Carroll - but uncertainty over Owen and Martins, who both have get-out clauses in their contracts, has left the manager waiting anxiously to discover their plans.
However, Allardyce is hopeful of retaining both men as he closes in on fresh targets after capturing Viduka, Joey Barton and, in all but name, David Rozehnal, with Chelsea defender Geremi and Marseille skipper Habib Beye now in his sights.
Meanwhile, Allardyce is set to appoint England coach Steve Round as his number two. All
ardyce has been busily attempting to recruit his backroom staff since replacing Glenn Roeder at St James' Park, and finally appears to have made a breakthrough.
Round was England boss Steve McClaren's coach at Middlesbrough and later joined him in the international set-up shortly after Gareth Southgate's appointment at the Riverside Stadium.
Nigel Pearson, who took charge of the Magpies' final game of last season at Watford, was installed as Roeder's assistant following Kevin Bond's premature departure from St James' Park.

Forlan switch to allow Torres' move to Liverpool?
Liverpool today appeared to move closer to signing Spain striker Fernando Torres after his current club Atletico Madrid agreed a deal for Villarreal's Diego Forlan.
Torres has been linked with a £27million move to Merseyside and the transfer of former Manchester United frontman Forlan looks likely to pave the way for the 23-year-old to move to Anfield.
Uruguay international Forlan, who is currently on international duty in the Copa America, has agreed a four-year deal with the Primera Liga club.
A statement on the Atletico website read: 'Atletico Madrid, Villarreal and the representative of Diego Forlan have reached an agreement for the transfer of the Uruguayan player to the Rojiblanco club for the next four seasons.'
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has reassured fans he is working on signings 'all the time' as he closes in on Torres.
The Reds boss remained tight-lipped over any deal between the Reds and Atletico Madrid for the striker but sources close to the club insist that only personal terms with the Spanish international now need to be concluded when he returns from holiday next week.
The Anfield club are expected to pay close to the £27million buy-out clause in the player's contract and, while Benitez refused to name names, he did admit he hoped new players would be arriving 'soon'.
Benitez said: 'You must always be excited at the start of a new season. You must also have confidence in your team and hopefully we will soon bring in the new players that we want to make the squad better.
'We are working on new signings all the time. As I've already said, the spine of the team is in place and now we just need to add to that.'
Djibril Cisse appears to have moved closer to a permanent move away from Anfield after his his agent Ranko Stojic revealed the striker wants to join Marseille, where he spent last season on loan.
Stojic admitted West Ham had enquired about the Frenchman's services but insists it is a move to his homeland which appeals most to the forward.
He told the Independent: 'Marseille is definitely the choice for Djibril. I think the deal will happen on Friday or Saturday.
'I have been very busy this week - I caught six planes in two days - and I am sorry for the people I have not had the chance to call back - Mr Eggert Magnusson of West Ham for example.'

Reports in Spain suggest that Manchester City have lodged a bid for Fernando Torres but the Spanish international is still set for a move to Liverpool.
It is believed that three clubs, Liverpool, Internazionale and Man City have met the demands of Atletico for their prized striker.
However, Torres is set on a move to Anfield as talks continue between the two clubs - with a deal likely to be finalised within the next few days.
The news of City's interest is likely to have come on the behest of their manager-elect Sven Goran Eriksson - but their bid is almost certainly doomed to failure.
Liverpool have been brokering the Torres deal for the last week and they finally look set to seal the transfer this weekend.
The move has been smoothed over after Rafa Benitez relented and allowed Luis Garcia to move in the opposite direction.
Reports suggest that Garcia was keen to return to his homeland, where he is currently in the final stages of recovering from a long-term knee injury.
Garcia is valued at €5million (£3.3million) and will seal his deal, like Torres, in the coming days.

Liverpool Seal Torres Deal - Report
Atletico Madrid have reportedly agreed terms with Liverpool over the transfer of Fernando Torres.
zoom - galleria
Telemadrid have claimed that an agreement has finally been reached over the transfer of the promising Atletico Madrid striker.
Liverpool will hand Luis Garcia and 32 million euros over to Atletico Madrid, the deal being worth close to the 40 million clause Torres has written into his contract.
Atletico Madrid are also insisting on a right to first refusal should the Reds decide to sell him later on, which needs to be sorted out.
All that will remain then will for the player to give his nod to the contract being offered.
The report does come as a surprise, as only this morning, Atletico Madrid had insisted that there was nothing to the rumours, following massive protests from fans yesterday.
Marca are currently reporting that while the two parties are negotiating, and that a final deal has not been struck yet. Meanwhile, AS are reporting that Atleti want to ensure that they have first refusal before they let him go.
Only a few hours ago, Rafa Benitez had been uncertain, saying: "All I can say is that Fernando Torres is one of the players we have looked at. We are working on this all the time."
However, with almost all media outlets in Spain getting warm on this, there seems to have been a major development since. Watch this space...

Florent Malouda has revealed he has his heart set on a move to Chelsea.
The French international is keen to leave Lyon as he seeks a new challenge in a new league.
Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Milan have all been credited with an interest in the 27-year-old, but Malodua says his number one choice is Chelsea.
Malouda revealed he has held talks with Blues boss Jose Mourinho about moving to Chelsea and he is hoping a deal can be agreed to let him switch to Stamford Bridge.
"It's Chelsea where I want to go. I have made my choice," Malouda told Progres.
"I have talked about it with the coach Jose Mourinho and I have had direct contact with the club unlike Liverpool where too many intermediaries and sharks have entered the game."
Malouda saw Eric Abidal leave Lyon on Friday and he is keen to join his France team-mate in departing Stade Gerland.
"I want to leave, the directors know it and in these conditions I can't see carrying on with Lyon," added Malouda.
"So much the better for Eric (Abidal) and it changes nothing for me."

France winger Florent Malouda said last night he wants to leave Lyon and join Chelsea, with Arjen Robben reportedly set to move to Real Madrid.
Malouda, 27, who has also been linked with Liverpool and Arsenal, said: "It's Chelsea where I want to go. I have made my choice. I have talked about it with the coach Jose Mourinho and I have had direct contact with the club, unlike Liverpool where too many intermediaries and sharks have entered the game."
Robben has agreed a £13.5 million move to Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain.
"He's a footballer that we've had our eye on since last year," said Real sporting director Predrag Mijatovic. "He's a very interesting, top-notch player."
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, however, has dismissed suggestions he is considering a move. "Each summer there is speculation about my exit but I tell you this is not true," he said. "Chelsea is my destiny today and I do not want the adventure to change."

Everton To Bid For Smith?
Everton are pondering a swoop for Manchester United striker Alan Smith.
Middlesbrough have reportedly offered £6 million for the England international, while Sunderland are also said to be interested.
The 26-year-old has not yet been offered a new contract by United and his days at Old Trafford appear to be numbered.
He said recently: "If the manager tells me he wants me, I'm there for him. If he doesn't, it's time to move on.
"If you're no longer wanted, then you have to consider your options. I want to be out there from the start."
Smith hit form towards the end of last season after battling back from a broken leg.
Everton boss David Moyes is also keen to sign Sheffield United's Phil Jagielka and West Brom's Jason Koumas.

Chelsea's Drogba stunner: I can't commit
tribalfooball.com - June 29, 2007
Didier Drogba has stunned Chelsea chiefs after admitting he doesn't know if he will start the season at Stamford Bridge.
Drogba, 29, told The Sun: "You want to know if I will still return to Chelsea? I will reply to that when I am ready. For now I am having a deserved vacation. I love the English league and may not be in a hurry to leave England if you insist.
"But it's difficult to really predict what I want to do in the next week. I have been working hard and would love to win the Champions League with Chelsea. But, for now, let's just wait and see."
Drogba, who bagged 33 goals last season, said he is torn between staying and taking on new challenges in Italy or Spain.
The Ivory Coast star admitted: "I'm at the last big turning point of my career.
"It's time for one final big choice: 'Should I stay or should I go?'
"I am tempted to discover another world and to see what footballing life is like outside England."

Lampard: Chelsea shocked by wage demands
Lamps snubs new deal - Report
Frank Lampard could be heading for the Stamford Bridge exit door after reportedly turning down a massive new contract offer at Chelsea.
According to the News of the World, the England midfielder has rejected a multi-million pound deal, which eclipsed the £121,000-a-week contracts given to Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack and would have made him the highest earner in the club's history.
Contract negotiations between Lampard and Chelsea have been drawn out and this latest twist could see Italian giants Juventus and Spanish side Barcelona make a move for the 28-year-old.
Juve boss Claudio Ranieri has a good relationship with Lampard following his spell as Chelsea manager and would love to take him to Turin this summer.
Lampard has also been constantly linked with Barcelona and it is thought his wife favours a move to Catalunya.
Earlier this week, Lampard admitted he was frustrated by negotiations with Chelsea, who are reportedly stunned by his wage demands.
He said: "I have two years left on my contract at Chelsea, that's the way it is. They have no necessity to come and offer me anything so I just carry on and get on with it as you have to as a player.
"In an ideal world I would have done it (signed a new deal) three weeks ago. But it is not an ideal world is it?"

Arsenal And Man Utd In Tevez Chase
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reportedly targeted Carlos Tevez as the replacement for Thierry Henry - but faces a battle with Premiership champions Manchester United for the Argentine striker's signature.
According to The News of the World, although Arsenal want Tevez, they will struggle to afford the reputed £28million that it would take to secure a permanent deal, so are instead preparing a £9million package to finance the player's wages and registration rights on a season-long loan.
The newspaper claims that United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is also in the hunt for Tevez, but may also prefer a loan deal given the uncertainty surrounding ownership o0f the player's registration.
With Tevez looking likely to leave West Ham United after contributing hugely to their Premiership survival last season, Inter Milan and Real Madrid have also expressed interest in signing the player.
But Tevez has ruled out a move to Italy because of the deadline imposed by Inter for him to make a decision while he is on Copa America duty with Argentina.
And although he has been quoted as saying he fancies a move to Real at some stage of his career, he has also said he would like to stay in the Premiership.
The player's representative, Kia Joorabchian, said last week: "Carlos' heart is really in the Premier League".
And it is now beginning to look like a toss-up between United and Arsenal for his services if he does opt to remain in England.

Spurs To Bid For Chelsea Pair?
Tottenham Hotspur manager Martin Jol is preparing an £18million bid for Chelsea's Lassana Diarra and Shaun Wright-Phillips - according to The Sun newspaper.
Having already signed Gareth Bale for £10million from Southampton, laid out a club-record £16.5million for Charlton striker Darren Bent, and reportedly lined up a deal for Auxerre defender Younes Kaboul, Jol is still in the market for a left winger and more midfield cover.
And The Sun claims that 25-year-old Wright-Phillips is top of the Spurs shopping list, although - assuming Chelsea are willing to sell - they will face competition from West Ham United amd from SWP's former club Manchester City, both of whom have healthy transfer kitty's at their disposal.
Jol is also said to see SWP's Chelsea team-mate Diarra as a good long-term prospect, though the French midfielder has made only nine Premiership starts for the Blues since arriving from Le Havre in 2005.
Having finished fifth in each of the past two seasons, Tottenham are gearing up to make the Big Four breakthrough in the coming season.
However, if Jol succeeds in a bid for the Chelsea pair, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy may want him to recoup some of the outlay by selling some of the club's fringe players.
Jermain Defoe is widel expected to leave White Hart Lane, Tom Huddlestone has been linked with a move to Reading, and the likes of Mido, Hossam Ghaly, Young-Pyo Lee and Teemu Tainio could be offloaded.

Frenchman Faubert signs for West Ham
West Ham tonight announced the £6.1million signing of Julien Faubert from Bordeaux.
The 23-year-old France midfielder has penned a five-year contract at Upton Park, becoming manager Alan Curbishley's second summer capture following the arrival of Scott Parker from Newcastle.
The Hammers fought off competition from Rangers, who are thought to have offered in the region of £4.5million for the player.
Hammers chairman Eggert Magnusson told the club's official website: 'I am delighted to welcome Julien to Upton Park and feel sure that he will become a very successful signing for the club.
'He is one of the most highly-rated young players in European football and many clubs were attempting to sign him, so we are very pleased that he has decided to join West Ham United.
'I have been very impressed by his desire and ambition and I think he will be very popular among our supporters.'
Bordeaux's new coach Laurent Blanc had wanted to keep the midfielder but president Jean-Louis Triaud earlier revealed he had accepted West Ham's bid.
Faubert's capture is something of a coup for the Hammers, with the player one of the hottest properties in French football.
It will help ease the pain on missing out on Darren Bent, who recently snubbed West Ham for Tottenham despite being offered better terms at Upton Park.
Faubert began his professional career at Cannes before joining Bordeaux three years ago.
He helped the club finish runners up in the French championship in 2006, qualifying them for last season's Champions League.
Faubert's France debut came against Bosnia in August, and he marked the occasion with the winner in a 2-1 victory.
He was the first player to wear Les Bleus' number 10 shirt since the retirement of the legendary Zinedine Zidane.
As well as West Ham and Rangers, Roma were believed to be interested in acquiring the player.

frank sinclair is more famous for scoring own goals, i think u meant trevor sinclair. :s13: faubert definately has has more pace than him, skills wise not so sure, other than he's the first person to wear france number 10 shirt after zidane retirement. maybe he has the skills of his predeessor enough to wear that shirt :o

Croatia striker Eduardo da Silva set to join Arsenal
Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed with Dinamo Zagreb for the transfer of striker Eduardo Da Silva on a four year contract for an undisclosed fee, subject to a medical.
Da Silva (24), was born in Brazil but moved to Croatia at the age of 15 and took Croatian nationality in 2002. The striker scored the first competitive goal at Emirates Stadium when Arsenal beat Dinamo Zagreb 5-1 on aggregate in last season’s UEFA Champions League Third Qualifying Round.
Eduardo has made 12 appearances for the Croatian national team scoring seven goals, including one of his country’s goals in their 2-0 Euro 2008 Qualifier victory over England in October 2006.
Further details will follow on Arsenal.com.

Wow he score 73 goals in 100 appearance for Dinamo Zagreb. Then again it's a Croatia league. Another anti-climax signing by Wenger.

Rangers is always there challenging for titles and is in europe why not?low quality of football there, it'd have probably meant he wouldn't get in the French squad anymore
in what's essentially a 2 horse race for the title, Rangers finished 12 points behind Celtic last season
at least this was an improvement from the 05/06 season when they fell to 3rd...

Luis Garcia Signs For Atletico Madrid
The former Barcelona man returns to the Vicente Calderon for £3.4m - Fernando Torres, however, is yet to leave the club...
Luis Garcia was expected to return to Atletico Madrid as part of the deal bringing Fernando Torres to Anfield. It hasn't quite worked out that way.
While the latter has yet to sign on at Liverpool, Luis Garcia has returned to the Vicente Calderon after four years away from the Spanish capital.
Garcia departed the Vicente Calderon in favour of the Nou Camp in 2003 before heading to Liverpool a year later, where he rapidly established himself as a fans' favourite.
Now, despite this success, his agent reports that he's heading back to Atletico despite generally impressing during his time at Liverpool. A 5 million euro (GBP£3.4m) fee has been agreed between the clubs, and he's expected to be officially unveiled later today.
The attacker, who can play behind the strikers, out wide or as a forward, proved himself a valuable member of the Liverpool squad in his first two years at Anfield.
After scaling the Liverpool scoring charts with 13 goals in all competitions in his debut season, Luis picked up a Champions League winner's medal after that penalty shoot-out win over Milan, before continuing his good form with seven league goals in the following campaign.
However, Injury struck in the second half of the 2006-07 season, meaning he has only played 18 competitive matches in the last year. Seemingly, he was subsequently seen as surplus to requirements at the Reds.
With this transfer now fully completed, Liverpool are widely expected to bag Torres in the next couple of days. If the wages can be sorted, that is!

wah Sa silver cost £16.25 million :s31:
First Barcelona take advantage of getting Henry on a steal.
Now Dinamo "tok" Arsenal for an unknown striker.
No wonder Arsenal is keeping mum by stating "undisclosed fee". :o
