"Which brand is the best" is very subjective.

I would rather see a poll on "what brand notebook do you own".

divasion
17-06-2007, 02:02 PM
Because i looking for quality laptop now

which brand is the best ? your poll dun make sense to me coz now a days most brand is about the same standard is only personal preference of which brand to buy you think ASUS is a good brand i dun think so but others will say yes, conclusion change your poll to WHICH BRAND OF LAPTOP DO YOU OWN. :)

Diavonex

We can also indicate why we like or dislike about the laptop we own.

Actually, i had been monitoring asus A8JS(has hinges problem) for months(price has not depreciate even until now). During the PC show, decides to switch to LG santa rosa, model R405s, due to better specification.

Hmm, well i see different brand are made for different users.. IBM, Acer, Toshiba are mostly for simple documents work simple entertainment, Compaq(HP), Fujtisu for music movies users, Asus for gaming. Sony are proberly for all uses but i find them simple over price. for Dell and Packard Bell, i dont think i'll even look at them. lolx

thats my point of view

When you know for sure that specs are are changing every week, then you must also know that whichever model you buy will be made technically obsolete within 3 weeks. Thus the question begging to be asked is do you really buy Expensive=Brand or Value=Good specs +Support.
Also in today's break-neck speed in technological advancement what was once considered a high performance PC is in almost 6 mths downgraded to basic model status. Now with AMD & lately even IBM entering the chip making business, the momentum to make faster PCs at more lower cost is going to reach warp speed.Under such circumstances how can any one brand truly outshine another?

I bought my first PC in 1992 (a Pent.3 model) @ about $2400.00.The next one a Pent.4 (DIY) in 1999 for $1200.My first lappie (Pentium M) in 2005 @1700.00 and my latest Centrino model (that i'm still using) last year @ $1300.I'm just an average user (surf the net, sent emails, download songs or videos,do excel/word /ppt./photoshop/flash,burn CD or the occassional DVD).I've given away or thrown away all the other hardware because they're so slow or don't work at all with today's software or internet connection. What does all this mean? Simply that tomorrow's technology is going to be only faster, better and far more cheaper to use than yesterday's or even today's.

So am I going to buy expensive next time round ?????

I would rather save the money for a well-deserved holiday or go shopping for a new lappie every 10 months or so.

My 2 cents worth :)

Personal laptop: ASUS A8SC
Office laptop: Fujitsu S7111

Preference: ASUS

Thanks to my boss who wanted to play with Vista now im really hating Fujitsu. (Wish he'd chosen ASUS over Fujitsu)
My ASUS has not given me any problems except with video codecs but Fujitsu...... already giving me wireless problems in detecting Cisco routers.
Price comparison ASUS cheaper with better specs.

For my case... been using NEC for almost 8yrs...

Guess Japanese brand is the best in producing the
best laptops.... Next Laptop i'll buy will always be NEC!

You sure SONY does not have 2nd and 3rd Yr Warranty?
BTW, can anyone clarify on Sony Vaio Warranty? is it Local or International Waranty as Standard?

I know fujitsu offers 3 yrs warranty as Standard for some notebooks but only 1st yr is international and parts and service, 2nd and 3rd yr only covers service. Is that correct?

NEC is standard 1 yr on-site parts and service and International carry-in parts and service.
with option to purchase 2nd and 3rd yr on-site & international warranty.

BTW, which brands of notebook offer On-Side warranty as standard or as an option now?
Anyone can confirm?

Anyone can confirm?Sony does have a 2nd/3rd year warranty but at a cost.. and it's not always available. It's usually available during the sale periods...

For international warrranty, it costs around 90+SGD .. for 1 year only. no extention is allowed

I'm using a VAIO, 2 and half years and no prob.. Loving my vaio.. every minute.. :) :)

Using an Asus A8Jr.. Lags like hell.. ok maybe 1 gig ram is not sufficient for vista.. and for some odd reason, my LAN port has unistalled itself.. and I can't get it back...
my dvd drive keeps unistalling itself after I burn dvds..

Used a Acer for a couple of months before the left-mouse button popped out!.. luckily I managed to send it for servicing..

I've used a fujitsu for a year. and I kinda murdered it.. but it was good while it lasted..

Using a dell latitude D610 (company issue) ... hinge is lose again!
I had this prob b4 with my own dell.. some Inspiron model

I had a dell that's like 5 years old already. and the right hinge is spoilt so I can't close my lappy. So I emailed Dell for servicing information. I told them the problem. Then they said that they'd send the parts over.. Ok. a couple of days later. the parts arrived. cost abt 100SGD. ... then there was no repair man.. later I realized that Dell outsources people to repair their laptops.. so I had the laptop parts but no repair man.. I had to wait a couple of days then the repair man came..

And when he came, he took a look at the laptop with a very confident look. He told me he could fix it. Then I showed him the parts that arrived a couple of days b4. then he told me.. these parts that I have cannot be used to repair my laptop.. and he asked me buy the panel where the "power on" button is.. >.< I was like. !!! *insert extremely angry emoticon here*

Ok.. I showed him the door.. and I was soo **** that I swore to myself never to buy Dell again.. And this company lappy I'm using is also Dell.. and well.. the SAME HINGE IS SPOILT!. Are their plastic cover that bad??

Oh well.. sowwie if I whined too much..

HP is poor IMO i had a HP compaq laptop and it died 2 times within 1 year. I've a Lenovo Thinkpad X61 which i think its of a good size as well as a three year warranty. haha makes me feel at ease at least for 3 years

ibm is good but too old fashioned

Yes... I used an old IBM thinkpad in the office a few years ago during my attachment work at MOF... IBM is good... From what I know they used to be by LG under the name LG-IBM Co... But now it's by Lenovo... Lenovo Y-series doesnt seem v gd... i really wonder how's the new thinkpad by them... and now it seems even the thinkpad models are done by lenovo already... dont have the IBM logo anymore... it's just plainly Lenovo thinkpad... can make it or not still dont know and still so ex =(

I think LG is not bad... I use the LG 12" model and it's good enough for my normal work... i'm happy with it working with it for the past few months... sound systems great for me to listen to my fav tracks n do my work at the same time and cooling system works well n i dont have to worry abt system heating or anything like that... and their recent new models in the looks real cool too... I'll vote for LG!

By the way... LG's not in the list too... think u left out a few brands, buddy! There mayb NEC & LG users/supporters out there who wanna vote too... Maybe we can re-do this thing all over again? =)

There is no such a thing as best brand, all brands have their own problems and failure models, but we can put them into two grades, hp,nec, ibm, fujitsu, toshiba, compaq, sony etc at one grades, and the rest at second.

Anyone care to give pros and cons of fujitsu, sony, acer, ibm, dell and asus?my personal opinion- fugitsu usually aim at light weight market, and it's quality build was above average.
sony- the design is excellent or confirm above average, but price is also excellent. build wise i find it lower than asus and ibm.
acer- cheap price, cheap build, cheap name.
IBM- the quality was definitely undeniable, actually their design is also nice, all black. price was expensive also.
dell- catching up real fast, with xps 1330 it can really fight asus build already.
asus- one of the best selection, moderate price with good build and good design, what else can u ask for?

as far as i know, asus has no heat related issues while hp , acer , sony has thermal management problems

asus also has some heat issues, my asus a6ja runs hot, CPU is 1.8Ghz core duo, idle temp is around 58C

the 100gb hitachi harddisk runs so hot because of few ventilation holes, defrag or scan the harddisk will reach 56C in in less than 20mins (if placed on a flat surface)

now, i'm using a 22sgd cheap 3-fan laptop cooler w/usb. CPU idle temp now goes down to 47C and 100gb hitachi idles at 41C and goes to 51C on heavy use.

overall, i am happy with by asus a6ja.. no BSOD

Thinkpad's design has always been like that, and will be like that. It's a business-grade notebook, Lenovo has got to keep up to IBM's standard.

I would be surprised one day if Lenovo start using cheap plastic for their Thinkpads.

personally i feel that if you are looking at a gaming perspective, you can consider ASUS.

i have a very very very very old IBM notebook kept somewhere in my store room.. and until this day it can still work (but very slow)... very long lasting notebook, value for money!

but i like sony laptops too cuz their laptop designs are sexy :D

IBM and Clevo(where is it?) have the best quality. Actually, I would say Clevo have even better quality than IBM, I mean, I don't see IBM being able to stuff a desktop CPU, 3 HDD, and 2 9800GTX graphics cards into a laptop without even overheating it.

Because IBM, or should I say, Lenovo mostly produce business notebooks under their ThinkPad and ThinkCentre line.

Same to Clevo, they will never produce a business notebook with the same grade as Lenovo.

Each excel in their own category.
