Well other than EVA Air, you can also consider China Airlines.

Joint fare refers to a fare which consist of 2 or more airlines. It can be refered to as interline agreement fare as well.

A sample itinerary of interline agreement between SQ/BR

Singapore --> Taipei (Singapore Airlines) Taipei --> Tokyo (Eva Air) Tokyo --> Singapore (Singapore Airlines).

Such a routing offers convenience as it forms a circle trip(no repeating of cities). Most of such fares are offered vice versa, meaning to say that the above routing can be changed to go to Japan first.

If you intend to do an open jaw in Japan, you may do so if the partner airline has extensive coverage in Japan. If so I would recommend SQ/JAL instead (more Japan cities to offer).

** The price tag for an interline agreement fare is relatively more expensive. Usually for the itinerary above would cost more than $1200 excluding taxes.

Therefore it would be wiser to just get a through fare from China Airlines or Eva Air and do a stopover in Taipei. Cost effective.

Nick

can someone answer my question on what is the estimated price for a return ticket to japan and stopover at taipei? join fare is too expensive.how to answer your question when you didnt advise us your details?

A) which part of Japan are you going? So many cities.
B) How many persons travelling? 1 or 2 or 4 or 6 persons?

the only cheapest ticket for your routing is only on China Airlines.
(excluding all airport taxes/fuel)

HIROSHIMA
OKINAWA
OSAKA
SAPPORO
TOKYO
FUKUOKA
NAGOYA
YE1M : S$750
GV2 : S$600

EST S$249 (Singapore/Taiwan/Japan airport taxes + fuel taxes)

both ways needs to stay 1 night in TPE due to poor connecting time.
Accomodation at your expense.

no choice la.....cheap ticket always must suffer due to poor timing and cannot complain. and also a lot of T&C involved. spend 1 more night in taipei lor...

if not, go for the premium. SQ & BR combination at S$1400 per person (excluding all taxes + Fuel)

SIN-Tokyo - SQ direct
Tokyo-TPE - BR direct
TPE-SIN - SQ direct

S$1400 Vs S$600 (Which 1 will you choose?)

China Airline safe or not?

The plane's condition was once indeed very bad. One of its plane did crash before, so did Singapore Airlines and Silk Air. They are reducing their profit margin to buy more planes. Some of the flights between Singapore and Taiwan is equiped with in-flight entertainment.

Do note that planes cannot be upgraded to in-flight entertainment capable. That means that they will have to get newer models either from other airlines or manufacturer.

For what Krisflyermiles has mentioned, it is more economical to fly by China Airlines. The joint fare is targeted mainly for the rich or business people who cannot afford to waste time on doing transits etc.

The poor connection time can be taken as an advantage though. You can request for an STPC on oneway and a stopover for the other. The STPC is cater for passengers doing a transit in the hub (Taipei for China Airlines) and is unable to connect to another flight within 8 ~ 12 hrs (depend on airlines) can request for STPC. Under STPC, the hotel is provided by the Airline. You will not be able to choose the hotel. So if you are given one in Xi Men Ding, the you will be able to add another night's activity.

Benefit vs loss depends on how you look at the situation.
