Getafe Release Schuster, Capello Sack Hours Away
Fabio Capello will be sacked later today after Bernd Schuster was released from his contract at Getafe late last night.

Schuster would have had to pay Getafe 400,000 euros in order to rescind his contract, but given the superb job done by the German, club president Angel Torres has decided to forfeit the sum and wish him the best.

This comes after some rather stubborn resistance offered by Torres, and the understanding is that he chose to end things on positive terms in hope that he could land some Madrid youngsters on loan this summer.

The decision sets Schuster up for the Real Madrid job, as Ramon Calderon had made it amply clear that any negotiations would only take place after "contractual obligations with Getafe were resolved."

The Madrid's directors are scheduled to meet later today, and will take a final decision on Capello's dismissal. However, a formal communication will take place on Monday, July the 2nd, as Capello will only be entitled to one year's compensation if sacked after the 30th of June.

Capello had earlier claimed that he would "make Madrid pay every cent" they owed him if he was sacked, but it seems as if the coach will have to settle for just one year's salary.

Once the announcement is made, Schuster will be confirmed as the new coach, and be officially presented on Monday itself. In the meanwhile, it is understood that he will start his work informally, discussing transfer strategy so that Madrid can make their moves after watching Barcelona finish most of their transfer business already.

AS provide a rather interesting comment on the subject, quoting the president as having told aides: "All the people are requesting me to bring Schuster to Madrid. That means we have made the right decision."

Ya and players like Raul, Figo, Zidane Ronaldo e.t.c combined to produce one of the best football ever seen on planet earth. They have got their defensive lynchpin Makelele to do the dirty work and liberates the flair players to do the creative work freely. Plain stupidity to sell him off

Mijatovic Tells All On Capello
Predrag Mijatovic has revealed the reasons behind Real Madrid's decision to sack Fabio Capello and stated that the club have not lined up the Italian's successor.

After mounting speculation, los Merengues finally announced that the coach that clinched the league title on the final day of last season had been ousted on Thursday.

In a lengthy press conference, Madrid's sporting director explained why a new man was needed and defended the choice after stating that the team needed to play more exciting football.

"As you all know, a Board meeting was held this morning in which important decisions were made regarding the future of this Club," Mijatovic began.

"As the club's sporting director, I wrote a detailed report on the past season. After reading said report, the President and the Board unanimously decided not to continue having Fabio Capello as coach next season.

"This has been a very hard decision to make because of Fabio's good work, which includes winning a League title. I think this is the right decision and I want to thank Fabio for everything he's done because he's achieved something important, but we think he is not the most appropriate person to achieve our future goals.

"In big organisations like ours, you always have to evaluate what has happened throughout the year in order to make any conclusions. I spoke to Capello last year, offered him a contract that he accepted, and we worked together. We had good and bad patches over the season.

"But looking towards the future in search of a coach, we need to take another step forward. Therefore, I think I have the obligation to accept the Board's decision and to move on it.

"We analysed everything that Capello did, and we think he's a coach that did good things. He worked under a lot of pressure and won the League. But the future has to bring more of what took place this year.

"Every coach develops a plan, and something different may give us even more. We need to find someone who can improve several aspects. For us, the results are important, but because of the history of our Club, we are required to play a different style of football than last year's.

"We should have fun watching Real Madrid football."

Mijatovic was then reminded about what happened last time Madrid axed a title-winning coach when Vicente del Bosque went in 2003, but he refuted the comparison.

"Let me remind you about what happened to Fabio Capello ten years ago," he continued. "It was his own decision to leave for Milan after winning the League, and Real Madrid knew how to continue and then won the Champions League.

"They are hard, but normal decisions. His departure should have no influence on Real Madrid's future. We have clear-cut ideas, and I think we are capable of building a competitive team that can win every title in the world.

"Little changes when someone leaves. The history of the Club should continue regardless of the fact the great coaches leave."

With everyone now expecting Schuster to take over, Mijatovic was quick to state that no approach had been made for the German and that he would not talk about coach's that were under contract at other clubs.

"We are a gentleman's club and we will not make those types of mistakes," he said. "There are candidates and coaches that we like, but we have to respect those coaches and the clubs they manage. When we have a clear idea, the coach should do what he has to with his club in order to join us.

"We have time to look for the right person. We know how we want the next coach to be in order to win titles for the team in every competition. There are several candidates for the job, but I'm not going to give you any names out of respect for Fabio and our future coach.

"Many coaches would like to train this team, so it won't be hard to find the right person for the job. Berndt Schuster has the profile we are looking for, but we know he is still under contract with Getafe and we are not going to discuss the possibility of signing him out of respect for that Club.

"We are in no hurry to find the right man. We were hasty in our decision-making last season."

Incredibly, at the time of the press conference announcing his departure, Capello was unaware of his status as Madrid officials had been unable to contact him.

"he does not know at the moment, due to a technical problem," Mijatovic added. "Fabio is on holiday and currently on a plane. I haven't been able to speak with him, but I contacted his son, who is also his lawyer, and I let him know about the Board's decision. I will talk to Fabio whenever I get a chance to."

If Schuster is not the manager to be, then could it Wenger? Different type of football? Exciting football? :s11:

Real name Schuster as new coach

Schuster is Real's eighth coach in a little over four years
Real Madrid have named Bernd Schuster as their new coach following the sacking of Fabio Capello.
The 47-year-old German has ended his two-year association with Getafe to take over at the Bernabeu.

"His teams play good, entertaining football," said Real president Ramon Calderon. "He knows the club and will handle a dressing room full of stars."

Capello was sacked on 28 June - only 11 days after he led Real to their first league title since 2003.

Schuster will be officially unveiled at a news conference at 1215 BST.

Getafe have moved quickly to replace Schuster, appointing Dane Michael Laudrup as their new coach on a two-year contract.

Former Barcelona and Real Madrid player Schuster led Getafe to the Spanish Cup final and ninth place in La Liga last season.

He had previously coached Fortuna Koln, FC Koln, Xerez, Shakhtar Donetsk and Levante.

Schuster was expected to buy himself out of his contract at Getafe before making the switch to Real after Calderon had said he would not pay a transfer fee to sign a coach.

Real claimed they had talks with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, PSV Eindhoven coach Ronald Koeman and former Brondby coach Michael Laudrup.

However, last week Arsenal denied that Real spoke to Wenger.

David Beckham has revealed that he wanted to stay at Real Madrid for another three seasons and regretted choosing to move to Major League Soccer towards the end of last season.

The England midfielder opted to join Los Angeles Galaxy after he was told that Madrid did not want to renew his contract in January.

After an impressive second half to the campaign, coach Fabio Capello and president Ramon Calderon, both stated that they had made a mistake in allowing Beckham to leave.

"I felt capable of staying for longer at Real Madrid," the former Manchester United star told Diario de Noticias.

"I think I could have still played for three more seasons at the highest level, but as the club told me in January that they did not want to renew my contract I took this decision."

Beckham admits that he felt regret the day that Real Maded beat Mallorca to win the league title for the first time in four years, but has vowed to follow the club's fortunes from afar.

"That day my heart ached, but the decision was already taken," he continued.

"I am going to continue to support Real Madrid and follow them next season."

Reflecting on the sudden turnaround in the team's fortunes in the final three months of the season, Beckham believes that it was because the media had written off their chances.

"Nobody backed us and that removed a lot of the pressure. We were able to work better," he said.

With the league title being his only major title in four seasons at the Bernabeu, Beckham believes that the instability at the club spoiled his chances of adding more silverware to his collection.

"There were too many changes," he added. "Three presidents and six coaches is too much.

"The players never stopped trying and we were the least guilty in all this."

poor thing :( he regrets leaving Real Madrid, i'm sure his 250million contract will comfort him as he cries himself to sleep at night though

Real open title defence with Madrid derby

MADRID (Reuters) - Champions Real Madrid will begin their title defence at home to city rivals Atletico on the opening day of the 2007-08 Primera Liga season, which starts the weekend of August 25-6.

The match is of particular significance for Real coach Bernd Schuster, who faces a club he turned out for in his playing career in a tough start to his first league campaign in the Bernabeu hot seat.

Schuster was appointed on Monday to replace Fabio Capello who was sacked despite having led Real to their first league title in four years last season.

It will also mark the start of a new era for Atletico, who start without their leading scorer for the last five seasons, Fernando Torres, after the Spain striker left to join Liverpool.

The draw for next season also threw up two more intriguing opening day encounters.

Valencia will have a derby against Villarreal and there will be a repeat of last month's King's Cup final when Getafe have an early chance to avenge their 1-0 defeat, away to Sevilla.

Last season's runners-up Barcelona, with new signing Thierry Henry, visit Racing Santander.

The first 'clasico' between Real and Barca will be in the Nou Camp on December 23, just before the mid-season break, with the match in the Bernabeu on May 7.

The Spanish Super Cup, the traditional curtain raiser to the season between the league champions and the King's Cup winners, will see Real take on Sevilla over two legs on August 11 and 19.

The league season ends on May 18 in time for Euro 2008.

We lack depth in the squad. The coach still doesn't get enough power he rightfully should have. Calderon is still running from behind the scene and Raul's influence is still as big as ever. Blinded by the chase of C.Ronaldo, Calderon has turned a deaf ear to Schuster's demands, and we will pay for it dearly.

Although I'm a huge Real fan, the chances of us retaining the Liga will hardly be a stroll as it was last season, with other clubs rising in standards, eg. Athletico Madrid and Villareal.

As for the Champions league, only managing a 2-0 win over BATE at home with almost a full squad, we might be in for another disappointing CL season. We seriously lack depth after the loss of Robinho and we'll be foolish not to strengthen come Janurary.
