The Man U fans will over-wgelmed any Man C fans here :o

DOUBLE FOR BIANCHI

Rolando Bianchi scored twice as Manchester City rounded off their tour of Sweden with a comfortable 4-0 hammering of Carlstad United.

The £8.8million Italian set up his countryman and strike partner Bernardo Corradi to round the goalkeeper and open the scoring after five minutes.

With 20 minutes on the clock the roles were reversed, allowing Bianchi to drive home for City´s second. Sven-Goran Eriksson´s men wasted little time in making it three after the break as Bianchi swept home for his third in two games in his manager´s homeland.

btw...hope Bianch can excel in EPL when season starts

a self introduction here, been a city fan for the past 16 years, that season when i fell in love the blues was also the last time they won the 3 opening matches of a season, which they look on course to repeat the feat after yesterday's win against derby, at the expense of their bitter rival this sunday. =:p

Sir Alex to accept but not share Sven's gift

Sir Alex Ferguson will gladly accept an expensive bottle of wine from Sven-Goran Eriksson on Sunday - but he has no intention of sharing it with the former England coach.

The duo had a stormy relationship during Eriksson's five-and-a-half years in charge of the national side and go head-to-head in a Manchester derby for the first time this weekend as resurgent City face a United side who are without a win so far this term.

Eriksson is reportedly ready to mark the occasion by splashing out £400 on a bottle of vintage red to hand the Red Devils boss. But if he thinks Ferguson will open it during their post-match chat, the Swede is sadly mistaken.

'I am not aware of the wine,' he said.

'If he gives me a present I will accept it, but I will not be sharing it with him. I will take it home instead.'

Given their past history, Ferguson steered clear of offering any major personal analysis of Eriksson's managerial record, preferring instead to focus his attention on City as a whole. \

Eriksson, he noted, is the Blues' 12th manager during his own near 21-year stint as United boss - a tenure which reached a glorious peak on his side's last visit to Eastlands in May when a single-goal win effectively sealed his ninth championship crown.

'Last year was amazing,' he laughed.

'They spent a fortune on those blue-and-white scarves for all the fans and they never had a shot at goal, or tried to beat us.

'We were trying to win the league, and they were quite happy.'

Ferguson's assessment may be stretching a point slightly, given Edwin van der Sar saved a late Darius Vassell penalty which would have earned City a draw.

Nevertheless, the relatively timid manner of that defeat hastened Stuart Pearce's departure.

Despite public doubts over his record with England, Eriksson has had an immediate impact at the Blues.

Successive wins over West Ham and Derby mean even if City were to lose on Sunday, they would still head their local rivals in the table.

Yet as Ferguson is only too aware, success brings its own pressures - and given the desperation of the City fans to end a 31-year trophy drought, the heat is on.

'It is a big season for every City manager that comes along, especially so this time because they have spent a bagful of money on players,' he said.

'No matter what people say, there is an expectation now because they have won their first two games. They have to manage that. That is more difficult.'

Having noted Eriksson had talks with Aston Villa and 'another club' he opted not to name, Ferguson is not surprised to see the Swede returning to life as a manager in England.

What has caught him slightly on the hop is the sheer number of unknown players Eriksson has brought in from abroad, which makes planning for Sunday's encounter slightly difficult.

'I know about (Martin) Petrov and (Rolando) Bianchi,' he said.

'They were on the radar screen for everyone for a long time. But I don't know about the rest of them. Time will tell.'

Despite investing heavily himself this summer, Ferguson finds his own options restricted.

Cristiano Ronaldo begins a three-match ban following his dismissal at Portsmouth - joining Gary Neville, Wayne Rooney, Louis Saha, Anderson and Owen Hargreaves on a long list of absentees.

Hargreaves' recovery from a tendinitis problem is proving frustratingly slow, although Ferguson is confident the £18million summer arrival from Bayern Munich will not need to have an injection.

'We think we are on the right road to sorting it out,' he said.

'The better prevention is to do it naturally.

'Owen has been training reasonably well, and we are prepared to go along that course until it deteriorates. If that happens - in any way, shape or form - we have to consider an injection.'

Ferguson will place his trust in Carlos Tevez - who performed creditably on his debut at Portsmouth, setting up Paul Scholes for United's opener.

But while Tevez's fellow Argentinian Gabriel Heinze is fit, it appears highly unlikely Ferguson would name him in his squad just 23 hours before a Premier League panel will determine whether the 29-year-old should be free to join Liverpool.

even if he didnt bother to read, the words in bold already stated that, anyway coming back to the match, dont particularly enjoy this type of smash-and-grab raid, its exactly a carbon copy of the match against arsenal at home last season, but a win is still win, especially against their bitter rival. I will enjoy being at the top of the league while it lasts, most of the new managers always start with a honeymoon period and then fade almost immediately once bad results come. Of course a fairytale ending would be very nice, as it had not happen in the EPL for dunno how many donkey years... ;)

Sven is tops for Wenger

By GORDON SMART
August 24, 2007

ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on Sven Goran Eriksson and backed his stance of snubbing British players in the transfer market.

The pair will face each other for the first time in the Premier League tomorrow when the Swede takes his table-toppers to the Emirates Stadium.

Wenger has also always refused to be held to ransom over inflated asking prices for our home-based stars.

The Frenchman said: “Top-class English players simply aren’t available.

“When you talk about top-class English players you talk about Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Wayne Rooney — they are all at big clubs who do not need to sell.

“So then if you want to buy that equivalent international quality, you go for someone like Elano for six or seven million — you could not get an equivalent English player for that much.

“I’m sure Eriksson will be a success, he is a great manager.

“You could talk about Man City for half an hour and still not cover all their new signings. They have bought very well.”

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-2007390347,00.html

Arsene Wenger is smart not to make the same mistake like fergie did by taunting SGE and city before the derby last week. So i think this will be a hard match, if city can hold or lead arsenal by half time, there is 60-70% chance of getting a decent result as arsenal has struggled to impose themselves, especially in the 1st half, ever since moving to their new stadium.

If the new players can get stuck in and battle they have more than a chance. Everybody knows arsenal don`t like when it gets physical or as wenger puts it violence. Until arsenal can win ugly they wont win the league again, great on the eye when left to play their game but who`s baffed enough to sit back and let them play.

Thai to join City
Suree to become first Thai in Premier League
By Andrew Scurr Last updated: 30th August 2007

Thailand international defender Suree Sukha is set to join Manchester City.

Suree was one of three Thai players invited for a two-week trial at City by new owner Thaksin Shinawatra last month.

Kiatprawut Saiwaeo and Teerasil Dangda also linked up with Sven Goran Eriksson's side.

Suree impressed the most out of the three players and was chosen to join City on a permanent deal.

"Suree will be the first Thai player to play in the Premier League," Shinawatra's lawyer, Noppadon Pattama, announced.

"His work permit is now being processed."

Preview: City v Aston Villa

14/ 9/2007

CITY defender Richard Dunne will miss the Barclays Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday as he is suspended.

Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has indicated that Vedran Corluka will partner Micah Richards in Dunne's absence with Nedum Onuoha likely to return at right-back.

Brazilian midfielder Geovanni is expected to be available after returning to training following a calf injury but Michael Johnson is struggling to recover from a groin injury.

Aston Villa’s new signing Curtis Davies is included in the squad for Sunday’s game.

Davies, initially signed on loan from West Brom, missed the victory over Chelsea a fortnight ago with a hamstring problem.

Striker John Carew is the only injury concern after aggravating a groin injury while on duty for Norway in midweek.

Villa manager Martin O’Neill admits Carew would have struggled to play the City game had it been on Saturday but is hoping the additional 24 hours will allow him time to recover.

Manchester City (from): Schmeichel, Hart, Corluka, Onuoha, Sun, Richards, Garrido, Ball, Fernandes, Geovanni, Hamann, Johnson, Ireland, Petrov, Elano, Mpenza, Bianchi, Vassell, Samaras.

Aston Villa (from): Carson, Sorensen, Taylor, Mellberg, Gardner, Laursen, Davies, Knight, Cahill, Bouma, Agbonlahor, Barry, Reo-Coker, Young, Petrov, Osbourne, Carew, Moore.

Last season: City 0 Aston Villa 2

Key opponent: Gareth Barry - Midfielder will be on a high after his England exploits

Prediction: City 2 Aston Villa 1 - The Blues should get back to winning ways with home advantage

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/manchester_city/s/1016490_preview_city_v_aston_villa

hope for city to get back to winning ways again tonight after 2 successive 1-0 away defeats against 2 sides which not many teams will win at their place this season....

only downside is their goalkeeper really

anderson has like about 5 years to improve if you want to compare him to elano, lol..

that is the risk of young popular talent, they don't come cheap and you have to nurture them. tht is y wenger finds unknown players for the past few seasons, lol.

anyway, city is performing so very well compared to last season. the match against newcastle saw some fluid passing, reminds me of arsenal at times. it was good to watch.

martin petrov also doing good.

hamann is old, they may need a hardworking def.midfield. they do have dabo still right? their forwards are not that established too.

SGE hv a wide options to use his players as compared b4 when he's handling e nat'l team.

they hv new players tat others may not be familiar wif or aware of.

HAMANN was probably the best signing of the season...remember?he ditch a move to bolton and chose city...what a blardy good turn ard decision that was if not he will have to suffer under sammy boy...his playing good football despiter his age

i absolutely love watching him play..he is the 'vacuum cleaner' in any team. tackles and then pass to the nearest player..

... they do have dabo still right?....

pls, he cant even get into city 'B' team for city's 1st 2 carling cup matches, another one of pearce's bad signings, of the players bought by pearce, only perhaps Mpenza, who arguably saved city last season from relegation, and Hamman, who had a poor 1st season as well until SGE came in, are decent buys and both are free signings, the present squad consists mostly from city's academy and SGE's signings during preseason...

With concern to the 'humiliation', just want to talk abt one player and he is micah richards. I feel he is getting a bit big headed after he comes up the ladder so quickly to a regular 1st teamer and a full england international. His reactions in the match with lampard and also in the one against fulham showed how he think himself as being too good at his age, which i dont think he is YET. Just hope he quickly come back to his 'senses' and realised that he is not as good as he think he is. Either SGE put him back to his favoured right back role as his positioning as a central defender is naive at times, his great leap and pace bailing him out most times in earlier matches, or take him out completely and put onouha in, whom i think is a better defender in a central role. As SGE had said, hopefully this is just an one off and we will still be up there at the end of the season..

Manchester City have confirmed that Micah Richards has suffered no long-term damage to his knee.

Richards was stretchered off in the closing 20 minutes of City's Carling Cup clash against Bolton after a challenge with Kevin Nolan.

City went on to win the game 1-0 but Sven Goran Eriksson later admitted he feared Richards' injury could be serious.

However, scans have shown that he could be back in action sooner than expected.

Whether Richards will be available to face Sunderland on Monday remains unclear, but he looks certain to recover in time for England's potentially decisive Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia on 21st November

Hey this is a massive relief for city this is a vital time right now we need to get to jan to strengthen the squad. :D

important in attacking aspects but impotent in defensive qualities, Garrido fired from all angles during chelsea game, but all can see he had no help at all and coupled with Richard's poor positioning, is main reason why 5 of the 6 goals conceded came on that side, Ireland is better at helping out Chorluka on the right...

Sven Goran Eriksson has confirmed Joe Hart as Manchester City's first-choice goalkeeper for the 'foreseeable future'.

City have used three keepers in the Premier League this season, with Kasper Schmeichel and Andreas Isaksson also having a spell between the sticks.

Isaksson has started the last four league matches, but Hart will return to the side for Saturday's trip to Aston Villa.

Eriksson acknowledged that his decision could prompt Sweden international Isaksson to consider his future at City.

Not happy

"On Saturday, Joe Hart will play and will be my No.1 for the foreseeable future," Eriksson told the club's official website.

"I have had talks with Andreas today and obviously he's not very happy. I had to make a choice and for this moment I've made the choice in Joe Hart.

"I don't know if Andreas wants to leave or stay and fight for the place, but I told him it's very much up to him.

"I will not be surprised and I will understand it if he wants to leave.

"It was important and for the players to come up with this decision before the window opens in January."

Eriksson also has a Singapore goalkeeper currently training with his squad, along with Saudi Arabia captain Yasser Al Qahtani.

He added: "We have a goalkeeper from Singapore and a striker from Saudi Arabia training with us here, so we'll see what's happening there."

http://www.megavideo.com/?v=D2VLM7K0

Law 11 - Offside

Offside Position

It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position.

A player is in an offside position if: he is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent A player is not in an offside position if: he is in his own half of the fi eld of play or he is level with the second last opponent or he is level with the last two opponents Offence

A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play by: interfering with play or interfering with an opponent or gaining an advantage by being in that position

playing back to back games vs west ham in cup and league after everton away, dun really like this kind of back to back games, as a poor result in the 1st one tend to follow by a similar one in the 2nd game, what with all the hype abt sheffield united hoping to meet west ham to settle 'old scores' in the 4th round. Very disappointed to be knocked out by tottehham in ELC, now dont wish the hope for a trophy to end so early in the FA cup.

According to the current rules:
* Interfering with play means playing or touching the ball passed or touched by a teammate.
* Interfering with an opponent means preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent's line of vision or movements or making a gesture or movement which, in the opinion of the referee, deceives or distracts an opponent.
* Gaining an advantage by being in an offside position includes playing a ball that rebounds to the player off a post or crossbar or playing a ball that rebounds to the player off an opponent having been in an offside position.

The referee decided that the player did not commit the three offences hence he decided it wasn't offside.

already a few games back, but since u brought it back again, the above in bold was what dunn did. I always thought that a player attempting to play the ball, which is the above in the bold, whether he touches it or not, will be deemed offside. You will alwyays see that when players walking back from an offside position when the ball is punt up, he will never be flagged, but once he attempts to go for the ball, the linesman will flagged immediately, that was what dunn did IMO.

For the highlighted portion, it has to be taken in the right spirit intended by the rules makers in the sense that the deceiving or distraction portion is only the part that prevents the opponent from the ability to see or play the ball. Hence what Dunn did, did not prevent the opponent (more importantly, the goalkeeper) from being able to see or play the ball.

Anyway, there were instances of this in the past that were debated with the Man U forummers here too.

Hence what Dunn did, did not prevent the opponent (more importantly, the goalkeeper) from being able to see or play the ball.

Anyway, there were instances of this in the past that were debated with the Man U forummers here too.

it did not prevent the gk from being able to see the ball but it did cause him to make a decision whether to stay on his line or make a move. So to me that was interference, but it was bad defending on city's part too when richard dunne did not mark santa close enough.

'Whether that is interference according to FIFA I don't know but to me it is interference,' argued Eriksson.

'By being in that position, Dunn decides what our goalkeeper is going to do.

'I asked the referee to explain it to me afterwards and he did say it is a big grey area. I really don't know.'

Well, in response to the current offside laws, goalkeepers have to train their minds to not get distracted by gestures like Dunne's to play the ball.

sad to say how city need to depend on a young player, but the truth is that the current slump started after he was out of the side thru injury. For much of the 1st half of the season, we kept the ball better and passed better and much of the credits should be due to him. He's abit like the gerrads or lampards of the team, without him, the soul is lost and elano's form drop at the same time. I am afraid to say this, but city may suffer back to back defeat against derby tml, as derby are unbeaten in 14 home league matches against city.

me lor, hope this is not another false dawn. I had supported city since 1992, when peter reid was still manager during the old div.1, niall quinn was my favourite player then. Had seen the club played yo-yo between the divisions since then, even yo-ing down to div.3. :s13: Those were really the dark days of the club, so u can imagine, to the REAL city fans, what it mean to them that the club is finally having some luck in terms of investment, starting off with robinho agreeing to join the club. Kaka open to joining City revolution

AC Milan star Kaka is open to the prospect of joining Manchester City if the club can achieve their initial target of Champions League qualification, according to his representative.

Empics

Kaka: A target for the Premier League.

The Brazilian, widely acknowledged to be the world's best player, has been the subject of interest from Chelsea this summer; but with City's new-found wealth, the club could easily compete in a bidding war.

Milan may be willing to sanction a 100m euros transfer in a year's time and City's new owners the Abu Dhabi United Group (ADUG), have already made it clear that they want to start recruiting the world's top talent.

''Kaká would prefer a club like Chelsea, Real Madrid or Milan, but we never know,'' Kaká's representative Diogo Kotscho told The Observer.

''This season Manchester City do not have a team to win the Champions League.

''Maybe next season they can get into that competition - they have the prospects to be good enough. What they need to have is a big project to win the Premier League and the Champions League.

''It's not just about Kaká, they will only get the very best players if they attain this level. It was the same with Chelsea a few years ago - they had to prove themselves too.

''I think Manchester City are headed in the right direction, but they have big work to do.

''It's no easy thing to reach the same level as the biggest clubs in the world, and it's not just about money - you have to spend it properly and build a great team. In two or three years they can be there if they do the right things.''

Lassana Diarra is better than Claude Makelele says Harry Redknapp
By Mark Fleming 20/09/2008

Man City v Pompey Tomorrow, 3pm

Lassana Diarra is a better all-round player than his midfield mentor Claude Makelele, according to Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp.

Diarra, 23, spent much of his career as understudy to Makelele, both at Chelsea and for France.

But Redknapp, who signed him for £5.5million from Arsenal in January, said: "When Diarra first came here people said he was a Makelele.

He isn't a Makelele because he has another dimension to his game.

"He goes with the ball, beats people and surges. He has got everything. He is a player right up there with the best midfielders in the world.

"He is an unbelievable athlete, with amazing power and strength. And he can do amazing things with the ball."

Pompey visit Manchester City tomorrow with three successive wins behind them.

Goalkeeper David James is unconcerned about facing a certain £32million striker.

"Robinho? I know nothing about him," joked James.

Manchester City are reportedly readying another super swoop, with Manchester United's Carlos Tevez this time the target...

News of the World claims that City will launch a £30million raid to steal Tevez from their cross-town rivals, who have yet to tie the Argentine forward to a permanent deal.

The 24-year-old is currently serving the second season of a two-year loan spell at Old Trafford. It was expected United would offer him a permanent deal during the summer, but Sir Alex Ferguson recently revealed that no new contract would be forthcoming until the end of the season.

The exact reason for the delay remains unclear; however, the general consensus is that the £31million deadline-day purchase of Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham Hotspur has left the Red Devils' transfer kitty dry.

Mark Hughes and co will have a tough time convincing Tevez to make the switch to Eastlands, as the former West Ham star recently declared that he wishes to see out his playing days at United.

But working in the Citizens' favour is their flourishing relationship with Kia Joorabchian, the figurehead for Media Sports Investment (MSI) - the firm that owns Tevez's contract - and the man largely responsible for bringing Robinho to the City of Manchester Stadium.

If United cannot wrap up a deal by next summer, then MSI will sell Tevez to the highest bidder - and with City bolstered by the near-unlimited financial resources of new owners Abu Dhabi United Group, they would have to considered favourites if push comes to shove.

It is understood that the Sky Blues may seek to open negotiations with MSI as early as January, although a winter transfer would be extremely unlikely given Tevez will still have half a season remaining on his loan with United.

Wahh if they get Tevez can really pwn3d their rivals liao.. :D

a hard defeat to take after leading 2-0 at HT, but the feeling's not as bad as the 2-3 against fulham last season cos liverpool's top side, show we still a long way from top 4. The sending off of zabaleta changed the complexion of the game, probably deserved the red seeing the replay, but their defender wasnt even booked for kicking jo's hip. Most impressed with SWP, the only player who shone perhaps, hughes substitution after zabaleta's sending off puzzled me though, why bring on a midfielder to play RB when he had TBH on the bench...well, cant wait for january to come for hughes to bring in a couple of top quality defenders

Evilmerlin
06-10-2008, 08:43 AM
It was disappointing to not take the 3pts but we were also very unlucky with that deflection off Dunne's foot leading to the third goal. Plus, the unexpected injury of the Liverpool defender and no experienced striker to take advantage. I suspect if Robinho or Elano were still in play when he was stretchered off, we might have scored again.

Bad luck really.

Why did Zabaleta go in rashly? If he was still on the field, the game might have finished evenly. Nevertheless, it was good game for the neutrals to watch, a spectacular game Liverpool fans and a heartbreaking one for the Man City fans.

a mistimed tackle that caught the standing foot of alonso, dun think it was intentional but the referee had no choice cos it really looked bad on replay, in this kind of lunge, either u get the ball if the tackle is perfect or the leg of opposing player...

City were leading 2-1 when Zabaleta was dismissed from a strong challenge on Xabi Alonso and Hughes felt even Liverpool's player did not think it was a red card offence.

"I look for the reaction of the opposing players. People will view it as a sending off, but I felt it was a genuine attempt to get the ball," he concluded.

Just read that our revered benefactor, Sheikh Mansoor, has pumped £3.5 billion into Barclays Bank as part of their prop-up plan. This will give him a 16% stake in the company.

One might therefore reason that since Barclays sponsor the Premier League then City are technically and indirectly funding it. Furthermore, by definition a good percentage of the prize money being paid out to all Clubs will also be technically and indirectly coming from City !

Priceless.
