Adriano’s future at Inter is again being called into question after the Brazilian striker left the San Siro before yesterday’s game.

Having responded angrily to being substituted against Reggina, Adriano didn’t make Roberto Mancini’s side for the game against Palermo.

The enigmatic hitman was again not selected for the Genoa encounter and showed his frustration as he opted not to watch the match.

However, President Massimo Moratti is insistent that there is no cause for concern.

“From not being in the squad to being in the stands is a step forward,” he claimed. “Next time he will probably play.”

A weary Mancini was less keen to offer encouragement after months of relentless questioning over the ex-Parma man’s future.

“We live in a democracy so he can do what he wants,” he sighed.

“If I didn’t pick players just because they didn’t talk to me after a substitution, I’d have to leave five or six players out.”

lol wtf is Moratti trying to say?

more on the Adriano saga

Adriano set for Turkish transfer?

Following his exclusion from the big match with Juventus, Inter look set to sell Adriano in January and a new offer has come in from Fenerbahce.

L’Imperatore was not even included in the squad travelling to Turin for tonight’s Scudetto clash and Coach Roberto Mancini refused to explain why, merely stating: “We decided together. That is all.”

It was the latest chapter in the breakdown of this relationship and Adri’s divorce from the Beneamata seems inevitable.

This weekend it is reported his future may lie in Turkey, as Fenerbahce are ready to fly in to the peninsula over the next few days to begin negotiations.

It’s believed they have offered £3.5m for the striker plus the same amount as an annual salary – roughly what he currently earns at San Siro.

Adriano would meet up with another former Inter player in Istanbul, as Fenerbahce signed fellow Brazilian Roberto Carlos from Real Madrid.

Curiously, Fenerbahce are in Inter’s Champions League group and defeated the Nerazzurri 1-0 in this season’s opener.

Adriano did not take part in that game, as he was left off the European squad list. This means he is eligible for continental competition should he join the Turks in January.

The forward was snapped up by Inter as a teenager from Flamengo in 2001, then found fame on loan at Fiorentina and Parma before returning to San Siro in January 2004.

if Fenerbache didn't make an offer maybe Moratti would consider, but looking at what he said about selling to a direct rival, Adriano's definitely leaving Italy this time.

Roberto Mancini has commented on the latest saga involving troubled Inter marksman Adriano.

The Brazilian striker didn’t attend training yesterday and relations with Mancio have been frosty since he reacted angrily to substitution against Reggina.

The volatile hitman has always had a tempestuous relationship with his Coach, but Mancini has calmed rumours that he will leave in January.

“There were problems yesterday, but he was at training today,” the Nerazzurri tactician explained.

“I think that the most important thing is for Adriano to live a normal life so that he can train to the best of his ability.

“He needs to always do that, not just for two weeks. Then all the problems would sort themselves out.

“I can only hope that he can sort his personal life out and embrace the athletic lifestyle.”

Adriano was brimming with confidence at his Sao Paolo presentation and feels this is “a new beginning,” but sent a harsh message to Roberto Mancini.

The Inter star sealed a six-month loan spell in Brazil after eight weeks of rehabilitation and intensive training in the Sao Paolo complex and will make his debut on January 16 against Guaratinguetà.

“I understood that I could be happy here and it is an honour for me to wear this historic shirt,” said the striker.

“I came to Sao Paolo to score goals and help the team go all the way. Since I arrived, Coach Muricy Ramalho has treated me with affection and I doubt we’ll have any problems.

“I am in good shape and hope to earn my place in the first team. I have so much motivation, I am not the kind to promise the earth, but I like working hard and want to be the Adriano of two years ago. The goal arrives when a player feels good with the team and himself.”

That was not the case at Inter in recent years and when asked if he wanted to send a message to Coach Mancini, Adriano’s silence spoke volumes.

“I only want to thank President Massimo Moratti,” he replied.

The rapport between striker and tactician has always been a shaky one and Adriano was furious when he regularly found himself in the stands for big games this season.

“At Inter I earned the nickname ‘Imperatore.’ Here I want to simply be called Adriano, treating this as a new beginning. I am a normal person, not an Emperor.

“I went through a terrible period of depression. I lost my father and so many things happened after last year’s World Cup. I have many regrets, but I have to look forward now.”

It remains to be seen whether or not he will return to San Siro after the loan spell expires at the end of June 2008.

“I have finished resting. I owe a year to everyone and want to play every game, scoring goals that will help take Sao Paolo all the way in the League and Copa Libertadores,” continued the former Fiorentina man.

“Sao Paolo are proving to have a very important part to play in my life and I am aware of what I want. I asked to stay here for six months because I know it will be good for me. When I arrived I was so sad, but the moment I set foot in here I felt better.”

It is reported that Adriano will earn only 10 per cent of the wages he would otherwise have picked up had he remained at Inter.

“Money is the last thing on my mind right now. What counts for me is to be happy and I can do that here, with the Sao Paolo shirt. I want this to be my second home and score many goals.”

His first home is Flamengo, the club where he started his career and where Inter plucked the teenager in the summer of 2001.

“I hope my old fans do not feel conned by my choice and if anything trust they will understand that this is what I need for my own good, to be happy again.

“Sao Paolo have helped me a great deal and playing with this shirt is a way to thank them. In any case, I don’t think I will celebrate if I score against Flamengo, it is a sign of respect.”

A return to Inter was notably absent from Adriano’s wish list of objectives, looking instead closer to home.

“I will do everything I can to get back into the Selecao. I need to play and to be in good shape to achieve that. I am certain Carlos Dunga is keeping an eye on everyone, but those playing in Brazil have to prove a little bit more.”

Adriano is celebrating his brace in Brazil by dropping his Imperatore nickname. “I am a different person now.”

The Inter-owned striker started his six-month loan spell at Sao Paolo in style by scoring both his team’s goals in a 2-1 victory over Guaratinguetà.

“I wonder what the Italian media will say. They are not accustomed to being nice about me,” smiled Adri after a long-running battle with the newspapers who blamed his partying lifestyle for poor form.

He went to Brazil for a two-month rehabilitation and intensive training programme, but agreed to stay on and play for the rest of the season to rediscover his scoring touch.

One of the first things to go in this move is his famous nickname, L’Imperatore – the Emperor.

“Don’t call me that, I prefer to leave that name behind in Italy,” said Adriano.

“I am a different person now and would prefer to be called Adriano. I am trying to start my life over and that means leaving ‘Imperatore’ behind.”

Whether Inter will be left behind as part of his old life remains to be seen, as the club continues to maintain it will recall him once the loan has expired.
