You can easily withdraw cash from CITIBANK atm in tokyo but not those normal ATM in 7-11 or japan banks. So better know where the international banks atm location. They are normally located in the buildings, so its not easy to withdraw money at late night.

i see. but for me, i dun feel safe keeping in the hotel also leh, cos i alone. :o :crazy:Have been to Tokyo twice, and to over 100 cities around the world, so I think I am somewhat qualified to give some advice.
1. Don't bring so much cash. 300-400SGD worth is good enough. Draw money as you need from ATMs. This way, you lose at most 400$ if you lose your wallet or get mugged ( though this is unlikely in Japan ). If you must carry alot of cash, use the hotel safe or a money belt ( see below ).
2. Japanese bank ATMs can be hard to use, because they might not have Plus or Cirrus network, and also because they are almost exclusively Japanese and have no English menu. So look for Citibank ATMs. Citi ATMs have both English and Jap, and it accepts your Singapore issued Citibank ATM card. There's a Citibank branch in Shinjuku, as well as other places.
3. If you have cash, don't carry it in your wallet. I suggest you put 1 days worth of expenses in your wallet ( maybe about 10000 yen ), and the rest in a money belt. You can buy one from any travel shop for $10. Wear the money belt under your clothes.
4. You should also put a spare credit card and ATM card and your passport and airticket in the hotel safe or in the money belt.
5. Bring your drivers license or IC as a form of photo ID instead of fumbling around for your passport ( which should be either in the hotel safe or in your money belt under your clothes).
