i intend to buy D40 and lenses... wat lenses can i buy?
as i m a rookie, can anyone guide me for lenses? how much budget shld i put aside for it??

n roughly hw much shld the budget be??

Short answer: D40 uses AF-S (AF Silent Wave Motor) F-mount lenses only. Auto-focusing is possible with AF-S lenses.
Medium answer: D40 can use AF lenses too but must manual focus.
Long answer: D40 can use manual lenses like AI, AI-S too but only with manual focus. IX lenses cannot be mounted nor use on the D40.
Budget varies on your choice of lenses. Ranging from about $199 ~ $16K for the lense you want.

really thanks u guys.. D40 come we wat lense? D40 lense like cant zoom far rite. hence, need to get better lense or lenses tt meet my requirement. ya i noe, D40 dunhav AF n need manual.hmm.. btw, heard tt 2nd hand lenses not gd coz we dunoe hw intensive the ex-user used. y is it n gd den??

i juz wen to the link james gave..thanks so much..it helps me to find so much qns..LOL..i oso help me nt to jump into thg den realise i get thgs tt i dun need..
wat does it mean by 18-200mm n 18-55mm? wat does it mean by increasing e mm? n wat is f/3.5-5.6G? D40 got image stabilization?

Read up before buying.. No point if you don't understand what you are getting. Clubsnap is a good source.

d40 is real cheap from sls, you can't lose much $
attend nikon course or go to nikon's website: digitutor

SLS will b e last place i will go..i will nv forget my incident in SLS.. went into a shop looking a round for camera, wen ask uncle hw much. he give me a look down feeling n say "very expensive one" without telling me e price..
i nv go SLS again to get thg unless i buy frm my frenz there...

get the nikkor 18-200 vr if you are not sure what you will be shooting. an all rounder lens.
