hi people, the miotv guy came to install the box today.. i was told that i cannot use this combination anymore: speedtouch 536v6 and dlink dir-300.. i have to connect my computer through usb..

the problem is, i need wireless access.. however, they singnet won't let me upgrade my plan to the integrated wireless one.. therefore, i have to purchase a modem myself..

may i know what modem should i buy? can i get the 2Wire 2700? i saw it on the miotv website.. and in particular, 2700HGV-2?

for miotv you'll need either one of the speedtouch model (cant remember which one) with specific firmware for miotv support, or 2wire. you may buy a 2wire 2700hgv-2 from malidax.
http://www.malifax.com.sg/contactus.html

purchase of 2wire is terms cash only. cant remember the exactly price - i think around S$280.

I am using the Speedtouch 585. According to the miotv contractor, it is considered an old model already. While it can support IPTV, it needs a firmware upgrade. However, there is a problem with password protection - appears to be locked by ISP.

Anyway, the contractor didn't know the password. So connection still not up. :s27:

Why your MIO TV come without 2wire modem?
I already have MIO plan with 2 wire modem.
When they came for MIO TV installation, they still bring down a brand new 2wire modem.
when they see I already have the 2 wire, they bring back the new modem.
The sale person told me I can keep the 2 wire modem free even I terminate the MIO TV.

But the man said I can buy dont know what wireless device from him for miotv connection for less $50 so that I dont need to run the cable from the modem in one room to the mio box in the living room.

To use the ST536 for IPTV, the PPPOE has to reside on the ST536 i.e. cannot convert it to bridge mode.

To make use of the router, you need to change the gateway address for the router to something other than 192.168.1.XXX so that it doesn't clash with the ST536 e.g. 192.168.2.xxx.

Connection would be phone cable to ST536, RJ45 from ST536 to router, and from router to MioTV set-top box.

cos i've tried what you said and it doesnt work.

Like what liangtam says, multi PPPoE works. how i achieve that is using a switch. Im using ST536v6, DIR655.

Phone line to ST536v6. ST536v6 to switch. From switch, one goes to mioTV STB, one goes to router WAN port. tada. works well.

Failing either must know, would put in high risk to attempt the firmware.

misato, i managed to flash the firmware successfully. But i seems to have brick my miotv box instead when i try. now it is showing a red "X" on the screen when i on my miotv. and the link show disconnected on the iptv page. Any help on that ? :o

Also if u use PPPoA, u can't see the stats in the speedtouch "Broadband connection" tab.
Only if u switch to PPPoE, then u can see the IPTV option on the page.

The password i used to flash my firmware, is Administrator and " my own password "
If u never set any username and password to log in to ur speedtouch modem configuration page, the username: Administrator and password : Blank. else u have to hardreset ur modem.

While what Thos solution instructions might work, it may not work on Singtel as they probably design the firmware as such that it wont work through routers not approved by them.

I got a separate switch.

Should have read your post earlier, was contemplating a similar setup before my MioTV installation. Ended up buying a brand new 2Wire from a forumer at a cheap price. :s7:

Have you tried doing away with the switch ? That is, phone line --> ST536v6 --> any other port on the wireless router (not the WAN port). At the same time, disable DHCP server on the wireless router. This will make the wireless router effectively a switch and a wireless access point. IP address assignment will be from the ST536v6.

I have done the above setup for 3 friends and work well but not sure whether it will work for MioTV.

Yup, i did that first actually before purchasing the actual switch. it works, mioTV all works. i was using WRT54G as my switch. no need to disable dhcp and all those things, plug and play as those 4 ports is just switch. But it wasnt stable, i dont know why. But now i got a real switch, it works well.

I figured a simple Dlink switch will do. 10/100 switch. theres also gigaswitch, which cost double. ijust got the 10/100 which is more then enough for my setup. dlink has lifetime warranty for the switch. cost me ard $25 only.

phone line->ST536v6->Buffalo AirStation (wifi)

If I connect the mioTv stb with the wifi's lan - it does not work. All I see is a screen saying "press ok to watch tv" I press ok but nothing happens.

I tried to use the solutions provided here but no use. As I don't plan to extend the contract with mioTv more than 6 months, I don't want to buy any switch. can anyone help me with setting up the wifi's lan port with the mioTv please?

let me rephrase for better understanding:

1. I tried all the solutions mentioned that doesn't include an extra switch
2. I do not want to buy a switch because I don't plan to extend miotv more than the 6 months free service
3. I was wondering if there's anything I can do with my router to make the miotv box believe that the connection is coming from the ST536 itself. As I can always access my router and configure each of the lan ports individually - maybe someone could shed some light on that.

Thank you :)

In your setup, which equipment is giving out the IP...

ST536v6 or Buffalo ?

I think you should 'bridge' your buffalo and let the ST536v6 supply the IP to your devices... which will effectively means that your Buffalo has become a 'switch'... :)

Not sure whether will work but worth a try... :)

d_nitemarez
17-01-2008, 02:21 PM
thank you for the replies. I will try the bridging solution.
For a hub, well, I guess that's worth a try also. Lemme see if I can borrow one off someone first (I'm one cheapo or what!).

One more thing that I found out - the buffalo is not in PPoE mode... is that necessary here?

Confirm that the above setup works. I'm using a Speedtouch 536 v6 modem connected to a Edimax Switch, which is then connected to a wireless router. The mioTV connected is connected to the switch.

You need to have 3rd party firmware to set 2 separate vLANs. Set your internet connection to be dialled up with PPPoE from the router.

If you're using 3rd party firmware, you can configure the vLAN manually from Telnet. See below link:

what do you mean? if you subscribe to miotv, you'll likely be given a 2wire wireless modem/router - that would be just ONE device to handle all jobs.

it seems they give the thomson speedstream 536v6 for those plans without mio voice. my friend just got one too, no mio voice subscribed.

what u need to get is a minimum 4 port 10/100 switch, assuming your 3 other PCs are wired. if wireless, u need another wireless access point. Connect as follows:

Connection A:
536v6
|
|
|
4-port switch
| \
| \
| \
| LAN Port 1: mioTV
|
|
LAN Port 2 - 4 - to remaining PCs

Connection B:
536v6
|
|
|
4-port switch
| | \
| | \
| | \
| \ LAN Port 1: mioTV
| \
| LAN Port 2: wireless access point
|
LAN Port 3 - 4 - to any wired PCs

I got the 536v6 (single-port) last week.

I used my existing modem-router with it and works fine with my network:

536v6
|
|
DG834G
| \
| \
| LAN Port 1: mioTV (when plugged into living room TV)
|
LAN Port 2: XBOX360
LAN Port 3: Network Storage Drive
LAN Port 4: Ruckus Adapter (used when I bring the mioTV box into my room)

With the DG834G, I can also connect all my laptops using 802.11g :)

Hi all,

Just to share how I get my mioTV up and running without changing the one port modem. Basically, my Linksys router is acting as a switch to bridge all devices. I made the ST536v6 to be my router. Hope that helps!

WRT54GS on DD-WRT
| \
| \
| LAN Port 1: WAN
|
LAN Port 2: mioTV
LAN Port 3: Linksys SPA3000
LAN Port 4: NAS

I am able to connect all my PCs, Laptops, Nintendo Wii and PDA via 802.11g. :s13:

This works, but you'll delegate all your routing capabilities to the modem - including port forwarding, etc.

Just curious: Will the router's QoS still work in this situation?

Nope. The switch and wireless interface will be used of the router ONLY.

Hi
Another working setup
This is what I did.

536v6
|
|
4-port switch
| \
| \
| \
| LAN Port 1<-> mioTV
|
|
LAN Port <-> WAN port DI624-WLAN-Wireless Camera, Laptop
|
LAN Ports
|\ \
| \ \
NAS \ \
PC \
Network Printer

The Broadband PPPoE connection is set thru 536V6
DHCP server in 536V6 is on and assigned IP address to DI624 Wirelesss router (192.168.2.xx)
DHCP server in wireless router is on and assigned IP addressed to the rest of the networks.(192.168.1.xx

So far I have no problems in all connections.
The only concern that I have is with the ICMP.
According to the 536V6 log I have lots of ICMP messages
"FIREWALL icmp check (1 of 34): Protocol: ICMP Src ip: "router IP address"
Dst ip: 10.232.127.242 Type: Time Exceeded Code: Time to Live exceeded in Transit "

Is this a major concern ? Can I ignore these messages ?

|
|
LAN Port 2 - 4 - As per usual

Hi guys

I hv new SNBB 8Mbps connection and free MioTV package with 2701 wireless modem. I alrdy hv existing Dlink DIR615 wireless n-router. My other existing network eqpt include a wireless IP cam, NAS, as well as wired network points at all rooms. I have a Edimax wired router which I think can work as a switch.

Can I check whether the following connects work? Any setting required? Any advantage of one over another?

Option A
2701
|
|
|
DIR615
| \
| \
| \
| LAN Port 1: mioTV
|
|
LAN Port 2 - 4 - As per usual

Option B

2701
|
|
4-port switch
| | \
| | \
| | \
| \ LAN Port 1: mioTV
| \
| LAN Port 2: DIR615
|
LAN Port 3 - 4 - As per usual

hi guys, appreciate any advice ...
you can try setting the 2701 to bridge mode and set the PPoE connection through DIR-655.
There are some threads in this sub-forum detailing the steps.

I ask the same question b4. your mioTv wont work that way.

miotv MUST connect direct to 2701, even after bridge.
2701
| \(or homeplug)
| \
| \
| LAN Port x: mioTV (with homeplug)
DIR615
|
|
|
LAN Port 2 - 4 - As per usual

waiting for singtel to come fix miotv/modem for me today.

Errz - Tks.

So my other wired connections (NAS and wired network points in other rooms) shd be connected to 2701 or DIR615? any difference?

2701 (Disable Wireless)
| \ \
| \ \
| \ \
| \ LAN Port 1 >>> mioTV
| \
| LAN Ports 2/3 >>> NAS?
|
LAN Port 4 >>> DIR615 (Wireless enabled)

LAN Port 2 - 4 - As per usual
