Hi guys,
I recently subscribed to Singnet after being with Starhub for the past 5 (or more?) years. I started with Starhub since SCV, the 1mbps days.
Location: Bukit Gombak (old district)
Using two computers to do comparison. Starhub without a router, Singnet with 2wire router (obvious disadvantage).
My Starhub subscription was 12mbps.
My Singnet subscription is 10mbps.
Browsing results: Almost every site loads faster with Singnet. Youtube loads up instantly.
Http download results using download managers (10 connection):
Gametrailers:
Starhub 1000 - 1100kb/s (non peak hours)
Starhub 100 - 200kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet 1100 - 1300kb/s (non peak hours)
Singnet 1100 - 1300kb/s (peak hours)
Rapidshare (20 connections):
Starhub 600 - 1100kb/s (non peak hours)
Starhub 50 - 400kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet 1100 - 1300kb/s (non peak hours)
Singnet 1100 - 1300kb/s (peak hours)
What's weird here is although Starhub is 12mbps max, I've consistently seen Singnet shoot well above the advertised 10mbps even superseeding Starhub. Also on Rapidshare, Singnet only requires 15 connections to hit max speed, compared to Starhub's 20 connections. This shows Singnet per connection is much faster.
Bittorrent (legal public popular torrent):
Starhub 200 - 700kb/s (non peak hours)
Starhub 30 - 300kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet 300 - 700kb/s (non peak hours)
Singnet 300 - 700kb/s (peak hours)
Bittorrent (legal private popular torrent):
Starhub 600 - 750kb/s (non peak hours)
Starhub 400 - 750kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet 700 - 1100kb/s (non peak hours)
Singnet 700 - 1100kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet is again consistently better than Starhub. I've never seen my torrent files hit 1000kb/s with Starhub before, so I was pretty shocked by what I saw.
Gaming Dota:
Starhub 0.2 - 1 sec lag (non peak hours)
Starhub 1 - 1.2 sec lag (peak hours)
Singnet 0.5 sec lag (non peak hours)
Singnet 0.5 sec lag (peak hours)
Gaming wise, I can't decide. Singnet gives a consistent lag, while Starhub sometimes (50%) gives a lag of less than 0.5 sec, making the reactions very quick, very easy to deny/last hit. Singnet's 0.5 sec lag does bug me a little, but it's very very consistent.
Uploading to my own server:
Starhub 40 - 60kb/s (non and peak hours)
Singnet 90 - 105kb/s (non and peak hours)
Obvious Singnet wins here http://www.slaughterhousemarketing.com/smile.gif
Ping to my own servers:
Starhub pings 250ms on server A
Starhub pings 350ms on server B
Singnet pings 250ms on server A
Singnet pings 250ms on server B
Singnet edges Starhub on pinging my 2nd server, with 100ms improvement. Loading to my sites are reasonably faster as well.
Conclusion:
I feel like an idiot sticking with Starhub for so many years. I was afraid of going with Singnet after hearing horror stories about how old building cable lines and Singnet ADSL are a pair made in hell. After the past 6 months of ridiculous Starhub peak hour horrors and the recent Singnet laptop offer, I finally swapped sides.
I'm plenty darn happy I did so.
Hope this is useful for you guys.
Cheers!

I can say that it's not old building cable lines and ADSL that's a pair made in hell.
Because the block I live in is less than 5 year old yet it's still a pair made in hell with ADSL. That was 2 years ago.
Like that considered myth busted or not?

Precisely. Ppl keep spreading rumours.

it is better but you have to check your line quality though, or you're stuck with a 3 year plan with dcs every minute:D

Actually I'm quite impressed that TS actually stuck with SCV all the way from the 1.5mbps days.
I mean, I jumped from Magix, then SCV, then SNBB, then moved house (counted as a change, becuz there was indeed a change in performance, suggesting area do matter)(plus I had to face their shyt customer service one more time, pay extra money, and had no internet for almost a month until it finally worked), switched to Starhub again, now re-contracted Starhub. (If only I had better experiance with SNBB, then I'd have signed up for the IPod plan)
Bukit Gombak should be newer than my old house in Tampines when I signed up for Magix and SNBB.

ok la, 2 years ago on SNBB, then change to starhub, cancel the fixed line and use DV. My house not so new, yet not too old. 13years nia.
Last time SNBB also lag like hell, then i jump to Starhub, then now starhub lag, seems like gonna jump ship again. haha.
PROBLEM is ... no use for fixed line. Fixed line have to pay $53+ for one-time reg, and $26++ per quarter.

IF I am not wrong, when your phone line is faulty, you can always ask SingTel to check the phone lines. BUT, the catch is, SingTel only maintains the line that is laid right to your doorstep (that is still considered "public domain"). Anything beyond that (into your house), you will have to pay for yourself.

Have been with Starhub for 3 years plus, but after suffering through months of slow loading sites, I gave up. Singned up to Singnet about a month ago and have not regretted it since. I did not expect the change to be so drastic, but it was. It just goes to show how badly Starhub is short-changing its customers.

Actually people should support Singtel for its history. Your humble land line was just a 2 strands of copper wire well before you were born. Before broadband was dial up using 14, 28 then 56 k modems. This was well before Starhub exists. Luckily for Singtel, there is ADSL technology that could ride on the existing phone lines but up to 25 Mb.
Singnet is good as I never experience downtime or disconnection. Starhub cable is good for cable TV only . I use Starhub for free to air TV reception only, never will I use starhub for internet in this life. It is Singnet or nothing !

wah u're such a loyal customer...or do u actually work for ST? so hard sell.
i'm happy with my SNBB too but i strongly believe the twisted pair wasn't invented for high-speed connections.
Waiting for the day they change it to optic fibres.

Actually for the next generation national broadband initiative, u will see optic fibre cable running into homes. There are actually fibre optics cables all over Spore already, they just need to replace the final lap known as Fibre To The Home (FTTH). This cable is king of all the cables in use now, even surpass starhub or cat6 cables. I cannot wait for this cable to come in.

Cable good in transfering data is one thing, but it is actually hard to lay, near 45 degree bend will actually cause the core to break. There's also the cost involved.

Hi Liangtam,
Well, fibre optics has been advancing. Taken some quotes from Wikipedia:
"Bendable fibers", targeted towards easier installation in home environments, have been standardised as ITU-T G.657. This type of fiber can be bent with a radius as low as 7.5 mm without adverse impact.

Another advantage of Singnet was the inclusion of their wireless router, something I was holding to buy for a long time.
I've also thought about joining Pacnet, but results from many sources have shown that although consistent even on peak hours, it's max speed was not up to par against Starhub or Singnet. Plus the fact that they don't offer any items or promos for their package. It would only cost me $45/mth for the Singnet 10mbps plan if I choose to sell the laptop. Pretty good deal.

Please take note that NBN is going for Passive Optical Network aka PON.
This is a shared infrastructure and do not be alarm when you are not getting their advertised speed of 1gbps.
This is not Metro Ethernet aka MEN.
Btw, other then the optical fibre challanges, IDA is also face with others issue as well.
- How to bring optical fibre into the House?
Do you have a solution?
Any representative from Corning who can provide advise?
Well, I have seen and touch the DIY fibre kit by 3M in Japan.
Not sure if any1 here has seen it?

it is better but you have to check your line quality though, or you're stuck with a 3 year plan with dcs every minute:D
I am keen on jumping to Singnet, but this is the prob that's plaguing me for quite awhile. Do you need to call Singtel to check on the line quality? I started off with SNBB at 512 Kbps, but kept having disconnections issue back then. Gave up, and changed to Starhub MOL 6 years ago.I recalled that the customer service told me back then that my connection is pretty weak and asked me to get another line solely for internet usage. I thought it was pretty absurd cause the 512Kbps plan already cost me around 70 to 80 bucks. Ad on another line for it and I will be paying 100 bucks for it...

Think now if u get 3mbps at 40+ with new line at 4+ /mth (if the main line is under your name).. think ok bah,..

If ur line is `weak', I don't see how a 2nd line will help?? Think u need to talk to the technical personnel for a more specific understanding on what exactly is a `weak' line. If it's ur internal line, then just change it. If external, check with them on what Singtel can do to improve it. Sometimes customer service may not be the right pple to talk to as they are not technically competent.

It's true Starhub is getting better, but it's still a very very large gap between them. I really feel like I'm getting so much more benefits than when I was with Starhub. The additional free bandwidth, the faster loading speeds, peak hours consistency, better contract deal (d630), faster torrent speeds, faster http download speeds, faster per connection speeds, etc.

Before 14, 28 then 56 there was 300, 1200, 2400 bps to dial up BBS. You literally see characters roll line by line. Cable didn't even exist then, how to compare like that?
Only reason I am with Singnet was inertia. From Dial-up to Magix to SNBB, just too lazy and insufficient incentives to change. Starhub never gave me a good enough deal that was not matched by Singnet. Old house no cable point so not applicable. Now I thought I give CableTV a trial, but find most channels sucks. So most likely will still stick to Singnet.

I am also with SH for more than 5 years...getting slower @ loading websites (even local ones). Torrenting also slow down a lot. However when u try d/ling from GameAxis or Apple, speeds are really damn fast. Currently on Premium plan.
SH recently no good offers for broadband leh...want to recontract but no good deal. Oh ya, they sent me a mobile phone voucher for being a loyal BB customer. Want to convert me to SH mobile.
Look at Singnet, first got Sony Bravia LCD TV offer then laptop, iTouch and now Nintendo Wii...whats next? PS3? :)
How's the speeds for both ISPs in Tampines? My blk around 20 years liao..
If really have PS3 or Xbox 360 offer, straightaway jump ship...lol

ya.. my contract ended yesterday, now waiting for singnet to come up with better promos.. cos getting the wii plan is like paying for it in instalments.
starhub dun give a fug whether their customers stay with them or not. x'mas - no promo, no nth. new year - no promo, no nth.
all they got is hubstation + 20" lcd tv for ppl who sign up for all 3 services with them. they dun give a damn for ppl like us who just wanna recontract BB.

For the last 1 month (perhaps 2), my StarHub connection is very inconsistent esp at night at 2-3am..
With Opera browser accessing local sites like www.asia1.com or www.gov.sg, i can still get 400 bytes/sec
for 5 mins or longer and then suddenly, it will accelerate to 150Kb/sec or more.. this behavioir just keep
repeating itself..
Very irritating and I'm seriously considering changing to ST...
I live in Tampines St 41.. Anyone had the same experience too?

Hi guys,
I recently subscribed to Singnet after being with Starhub for the past 5 (or more?) years. I started with Starhub since SCV, the 1mbps days.
Location: Bukit Gombak (old district)
Using two computers to do comparison. Starhub without a router, Singnet with 2wire router (obvious disadvantage).
My Starhub subscription was 12mbps.
My Singnet subscription is 10mbps.
Browsing results: Almost every site loads faster with Singnet. Youtube loads up instantly.
Http download results using download managers (10 connection):
Gametrailers:
Starhub 1000 - 1100kb/s (non peak hours)
Starhub 100 - 200kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet 1100 - 1300kb/s (non peak hours)
Singnet 1100 - 1300kb/s (peak hours)
Rapidshare (20 connections):
Starhub 600 - 1100kb/s (non peak hours)
Starhub 50 - 400kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet 1100 - 1300kb/s (non peak hours)
Singnet 1100 - 1300kb/s (peak hours)
What's weird here is although Starhub is 12mbps max, I've consistently seen Singnet shoot well above the advertised 10mbps even superseeding Starhub. Also on Rapidshare, Singnet only requires 15 connections to hit max speed, compared to Starhub's 20 connections. This shows Singnet per connection is much faster.
Bittorrent (legal public popular torrent):
Starhub 200 - 700kb/s (non peak hours)
Starhub 30 - 300kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet 300 - 700kb/s (non peak hours)
Singnet 300 - 700kb/s (peak hours)
Bittorrent (legal private popular torrent):
Starhub 600 - 750kb/s (non peak hours)
Starhub 400 - 750kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet 700 - 1100kb/s (non peak hours)
Singnet 700 - 1100kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet is again consistently better than Starhub. I've never seen my torrent files hit 1000kb/s with Starhub before, so I was pretty shocked by what I saw.
Gaming Dota:
Starhub 0.2 - 1 sec lag (non peak hours)
Starhub 1 - 1.2 sec lag (peak hours)
Singnet 0.5 sec lag (non peak hours)
Singnet 0.5 sec lag (peak hours)
Gaming wise, I can't decide. Singnet gives a consistent lag, while Starhub sometimes (50%) gives a lag of less than 0.5 sec, making the reactions very quick, very easy to deny/last hit. Singnet's 0.5 sec lag does bug me a little, but it's very very consistent.
Uploading to my own server:
Starhub 40 - 60kb/s (non and peak hours)
Singnet 90 - 105kb/s (non and peak hours)
Obvious Singnet wins here :)
Cheers!
i do agree that the gaming lag is true. but for bit torrent hor. my fren using singnet in bukit batok.. cant even see 100kb/s lol. i stay in gombak, if download torrent with alot of seeds. i ever reach over 1mb/s for speed last time when using premium.
and for rapid share i would say u should change download manager. i using IDM usually per file is 2.smth mb/s and above. previously using premium also maxed the connection speed for rapidshare. for downloading i would say starhub is better but for gaming singnet is better.
one thing more dulan about SH is their recent frequent lag spikes and low single overseas connection speed. singnet. im a little not pleased with their stunts of not putting in enough effort in protecting consumers privacy

i am using the maxonline express,
last 5 days my overseas bandwidth was just only 200kbps
i realized there's something wrong with starhub's connection it should be at least 3mbps because mine is the 8mbps account.
so i called starhub and talked to the operator for about 2 hours,
he asked me to traceroute the connection, there were many servers that had time out.
he said that he will send starhub technician to my home and check if there's something wrong with my hardwares.
i told him if there's no problem with my stuffs and the connection is still slow, i will terminate the contract. there were a lot of things i said to him, i talked about the same complains that starhub customers have in this website and even my friend who use starhub also got the same problem.
this afternoon, i checked the speed become 2000kbps, i dunno why, i did traceroute and there's not even a single time out, and the technician that he promised me, never come.
this is my overseas bandwidth now, i guess it's still slow

I have been using starhub for 2yrs prior my recent re-subscription.
Before monday, I had been using singtel for 1 yr.
of the 12 months of the contract from singtel, the last two months were free.
But do not be mistaken, it was free only because I refuse to pay for the service and demanded a refund instead of any free service.
these are my experiences,
One Saturday, my sis brought work home and needed to access the internet as she was preparing financial report. It was morning, and she was making a few calls. (As I heard)
By noon, she was scolding the customer service personnel for placing her on hold for more than an hour only to tell her that the internet disconnection would be revived on Monday.
But since that's her problem, I just thought bad luck for her.
One Tuesday, I receieved an interested prospect who requested for a quotation and asked if I could send the quotation ASAP. As the profit margin was not too bad, I typed and calculated my cost, did the normal profit margin mark-up and began to email him as he said that he liked to recieved it by 6pm on the same day. The time where I started to email him was 5.30pm.
Karma. From 9am to 1pm that day, the internet was not connected. connection was only revived at 1pm to 3pm. At the moment when I tried to email, the singtel broadband failed me at the exact moment when it was 5.30pm when I finished calculating my cost and by 6pm, I did not get back the connection. I was BALLISTIC...
You see, I am pretty different from my sister. My sister can be mean to everybody as long as they possess two eyes and a nose. The last time I check, she is only nice to invisible friend / friends whom this charming insurance-like 'pastor' named Joeseph Prince preach about. Another of those Flat Earth Society people who still are not convinced that the Sun is the center of our small universe.... Creationists, they call them. I call them, Pop Christians, like britney spears, these groups, J Witness, Mormens, H Y Sun come and go, like a bad yeast infection.
Ok, that's off topic. let's back track, I reasoned with the customer service person, it is forgivable that during non working hours, we do not get an internet connection. As such, let's pretend that it is Wrong to expect an internet connection at my house whom I pay for the internet service anything after 9-6pm Mon - Fri. As such, I would not pursue the method of why my sis did not get an internet connection on sat, at noon (somemore. it's weekend, no one works, so let's put it that she's in the wrong) BUT, on a tuesday, from 9am - 1pm and from 5.30pm, I was disconnected from the internet. Man, then what am I paying for?
the singtel connection is unstable during non working hours. Fine.
And it is unstable during working hours too. Am I donating money for the non-existent internet service or something? is the sing tel broadband a subsidary of the durai management? Non-existent service which you continue to part your money with???
anyway, the customer service guy insisted (nicely) that they need to do a physical check. Sent a nice indian chap around my house, and I ended up getting a semi confession from him that the whole cable network is in such a mess that he doesn't even really know what to do. As ALL THAT HE DOES, is to look at the 'wirebox' outside my house and see that it is connection, not rusted or chewed off by rodents, joeseph prince-tons, etc. And man... that is all that he could do.
anyway, after he left, the connection still behave like a drug addict, getting into fixes unpredictably. At this time, I got the same customer service guy and said this,
"I know this is just a job to you. And most probably, you don't even care, which I can understand. BUT, put yourself in my position. How would you feel if you were me, paying for something that doesn't work?" Really, as my dictum goes, be nice to everyone and most of the time, they would respond proportionately, he sympathised with my plight, and got me out of my 1 year contract with Singtel broadband. We never reached a Full Refund, but I know he has his own hands tied on this, and he fixed a complementary 2 months free subscription. Of which, in the last two months of using Singtel Broadband, dispite the continual disconnection... the message is clear on why I did not get upset...
If you did not pay for it, you naturally did not have expectations that you should be connected to the internet.
Of course, during the last two months, singtel broadband was just as nightmarish as it has been when we first subscribed to it in the beginnning.
My sister called me last week, and said, "hey, singtel broadband's 8Mbps is the cheapest in town. let's get it." my immediate reply "Do you want to pay money to get constant disconnections?"
I won the arguement with that One Question. Period.
Starhub, you may not be the best, your customer service are also pretty much non-existent, but I am so glad that at least your broadband works for my humble HDB home.
Note: Sorry, I can't jargon talk nor go to test my download speed as a leisure sport in my free time. the function of the internet provider is to work when I go online.
I go online to watch youtube videos , read emails, write some of my banal but rational thoughts, and maybe pick up the CD and play World in Conflict. (A multi-player online game where the internet world is an exact mirror of the real life, where they have their own versions of ass equally distributed. Try speaking english and getting laughed at by the caucasian speakers... And you would like me, also believe in CHANGE, We Can. Obama!)
So as long as which ever internet service provider allows me to do the above with ease, that is where my dollar will go to.
I side with no co-operations.... singtel, starhub or pacnet, they are just there to earn my money for the service I need from them...
hope you guys had fun reading... for fans of joeseph prince, go india / middle east / africa to do some real work helping the under-privillege.... instead of making DIY 'make-over' films of Joe P.

My conclusion of Starhub vs Singnet.
Starhub: Your problem is my problem
............(since I'm really scare of complains)
Singtel: Your problem is cause by another problem of yours, I'm not scare of complains
...........(till you storm to my headquarters.)
And yes, I have an experience. I moved house, and i called Singtel for relocating of board-band and phone line. They took me 5 working days. AND after 30 working days and counting, with numerous calls to the help-line, I was promised a technician, but none came.
My mum storm to the headquarters one fine day, to launch a complain personally. And suddenly, the technician miraclely show up on the next day, a Saturday morning.
And one they didn't fixed the problem instantly, they took 2 technicians to fixed the problem, and 3 calls from supervisor to make sure my problem is fixed.

$120 i think. But it's 2.5Mbps. not 512Kbps (the ones other users usually have), and the price last time was $200+.
But i get static IP, running two network to network VPN (meaning my LAN is connected to another LAN overseas) for work stuff, and i my network is IPv6 ready, tunneled to a malaysian broker. Since i sometimes on the move, i can PPTP VPN in back to my network when i need to.
I don't game much. (though when i signed up it's because of that), but now i just work work work.. so no time.
Because my thought was that, even with a 10Mbps or 30Mbps broadband, i still get about the same average speed on magix if i were to look at international access, plus i need the IP. (I chould have choose qala, but it's only business plan and i don't know if they're reliable)
local and international speed is about the same even though the latency is different.

I call them, Pop Christians, like britney spears, these groups, J Witness, Mormens, H Y Sun come and go, like a bad yeast infection.
...

And one they didn't fixed the problem instantly, they took 2 technicians to fixed the problem, and 3 calls from supervisor to make sure my problem is fixed.
obviously you don't know how to use a phone and talk nicely. I was given a next working day appointment at the latest, also got same day appointment before. I don't believe it can take them 30days for a technician to come down, my numerous experiences with them convince me you don't know how to relate your problem properly.

My speedtest result. Starhub Maxonline Premium (12mbps)
http://www.speedtest.net/result/241091946.png (http://www.speedtest.net)
Is there something amiss? I have no more contract left. Now aiting to jump ship. I was one of the pioneers using the then Magix but switched to Starhub about 6 years ago.
Problem now is that I don't use so often. Would I be better off using the Singnet Mobile Broadband (using the Huawei USB modem, which I signed up recently when I purchased my Pocket PC) even though the speed is not that fast (no difference from my current speed anyway)?

Then u shld go subscribe with Starhub, call in complain slow, hang up liao see how worse it gets lor
Starhub is the best. 1 month later, maybe you are stil waiting for someone to pick up your call. I tried calling starhub at least 3 times, wait for 15-30 mins. Nobody pick up the farking phone. And i always choose non-peak hours like late nights. That's why i never got cable TV.

It seem alright although it below the rated speed.
If you don't use it then why pay for it? Just cut the plan and use the mobile boardband.

strange..
my personal experience...
using SNBB 10mbps to surf utube etc.. indeed faster den MOB 12mbps.
but some games ( eg those asiasoft games ) seems to be hosted on starhub. just did tracert to the game server with both snbb and mob , snbb will take a much longer route... << based on my own experience only
but i liked MOB because their 24 hours support line. usually it took 5-15 mins for a CSO to pick up. but better than no support at all during some critical but non-office hours.
pro & cons , there is no obvious winner ... it meant to be that way?

Comparing Starhub to Singnet.
Starhub is better for gaming compared to Singnet. Its more stable and wont keep spike or whatevea. If download, both is equally good. I compare a game download spd wif my fren and he using Singnet and im using Starhub. Our speed equally good. When surfing net, I think Singnet would be loading the pages much faster compare to starhub. For example during peak hours starhub may get slower. However i try using MFF, its load fast at Hardwarezone compare to IE. So i think i would prefer starhub. ! Gambateh!

Singapore's ISP latency is still crap though, When i was in Sydney, even my 1.5mbps internet pwn all the isp here in terms of gaming and download reliability and consistent speed. ALthough there is a cap on data download but 30gb is ok during those days.
Plus its a soft cap, meaning speed will get triggered down. No need to pay extra charges.

I am eligible for a new plan, contractless... i am looking at both Starhub/Singnet 2-year promotion plan for 8Mpbs.
From comments:
Price, not much diff, 45$
Normal DL speed, not much diff
Game speed, again, each got its better points
Both got free cable modem.
Both like never offer any other attractive freebies.
I am actually more concerned about the internet download blocking.
I heard Starhub's torrent download speed very very slow in contrast to Singnet? Is this true?
I usually download/send files from servers like sendspace.com etc. I am currently a starhub user and I find it quite hard to access such websites at times. Does Singnet allow easy downloads from most of the popular uploader sites?
Thanks for advices.

i just signed up for mio plan basic (55.80/mth) few days back and here is my reviewbased on my own experience:
Broadband
for someone who lives in the east and who has been with starhub for many years, i find this switch to be a good decision. i used to get RUBBISH d/l speeds even on its MOL ultimate (slow) plan. my downloads now are very much faster. the only gripe is that the savings i get may not turn out to be worthwhile after all since mio does not offer freebies during signup. which means to say that if you factor in the stuff u get when u sign for MOL or SNBB separately, you may end up with a better deal.
Mobile
for ppl who have corporate lines, this again may not translate into many dollar savings since ione plus is around 22/mth with discount
Fixed Line
ok this is where i think most of my cost savings come from. now there is no need to pay the rental from singtel for analougue fixed line. u get to enjoy unlimited local outgoing and incoming voice calls. flaw is that modem needs to be turned on 24/7, so no electricity means no phone calls. a dect phone is also required if u dun already own one. however monthly electricity consumption bill is low. some threads i have read with regards to mio voice have users complaining of 'echo', for me, i just had to turn down my handset volume.
So far have not experienced any problems. though installation was prompt, Installing man was not thorough. Had to self-test bb speeds and ask for the router homepage and decryption key. So i would not give the service high marks.

I am a starhub maxonline user for 5 years...and lately the connection speed is way too slow, so slow that even a simple forum site can't even load properly, with broken links of images and banners...
I have decided to go Singnet. Since the max is 10Mbps while Starhub is 12MbS (shared). The price that I am paying to Starhub is $74...while for Singnet it's only $48 after discount. In addition to that, I get MIO TV and other additional service...

Thanks for sharing. Since I am working in the day and gaming in the night, therefore it will make more sense that the stability of the connection is in the night. No point getting a stable connection in the day while not much people is using...This is the irony....

Hi guys,
I recently subscribed to Singnet after being with Starhub for the past 5 (or more?) years. I started with Starhub since SCV, the 1mbps days.
Location: Bukit Gombak (old district)
Using two computers to do comparison. Starhub without a router, Singnet with 2wire router (obvious disadvantage).
My Starhub subscription was 12mbps.
My Singnet subscription is 10mbps.
Browsing results: Almost every site loads faster with Singnet. Youtube loads up instantly.
Http download results using download managers (10 connection):
Gametrailers:
Starhub 1000 - 1100kb/s (non peak hours)
Starhub 100 - 200kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet 1100 - 1300kb/s (non peak hours)
Singnet 1100 - 1300kb/s (peak hours)
Rapidshare (20 connections):
Starhub 600 - 1100kb/s (non peak hours)
Starhub 50 - 400kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet 1100 - 1300kb/s (non peak hours)
Singnet 1100 - 1300kb/s (peak hours)
What's weird here is although Starhub is 12mbps max, I've consistently seen Singnet shoot well above the advertised 10mbps even superseeding Starhub. Also on Rapidshare, Singnet only requires 15 connections to hit max speed, compared to Starhub's 20 connections. This shows Singnet per connection is much faster.
Bittorrent (legal public popular torrent):
Starhub 200 - 700kb/s (non peak hours)
Starhub 30 - 300kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet 300 - 700kb/s (non peak hours)
Singnet 300 - 700kb/s (peak hours)
Bittorrent (legal private popular torrent):
Starhub 600 - 750kb/s (non peak hours)
Starhub 400 - 750kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet 700 - 1100kb/s (non peak hours)
Singnet 700 - 1100kb/s (peak hours)
Singnet is again consistently better than Starhub. I've never seen my torrent files hit 1000kb/s with Starhub before, so I was pretty shocked by what I saw.
Gaming Dota:
Starhub 0.2 - 1 sec lag (non peak hours)
Starhub 1 - 1.2 sec lag (peak hours)
Singnet 0.5 sec lag (non peak hours)
Singnet 0.5 sec lag (peak hours)
Gaming wise, I can't decide. Singnet gives a consistent lag, while Starhub sometimes (50%) gives a lag of less than 0.5 sec, making the reactions very quick, very easy to deny/last hit. Singnet's 0.5 sec lag does bug me a little, but it's very very consistent.
Uploading to my own server:
Starhub 40 - 60kb/s (non and peak hours)
Singnet 90 - 105kb/s (non and peak hours)
Obvious Singnet wins here http://www.slaughterhousemarketing.com/smile.gif
Ping to my own servers:
Starhub pings 250ms on server A
Starhub pings 350ms on server B
Singnet pings 250ms on server A
Singnet pings 250ms on server B
Singnet edges Starhub on pinging my 2nd server, with 100ms improvement. Loading to my sites are reasonably faster as well.
Conclusion:
I feel like an idiot sticking with Starhub for so many years. I was afraid of going with Singnet after hearing horror stories about how old building cable lines and Singnet ADSL are a pair made in hell. After the past 6 months of ridiculous Starhub peak hour horrors and the recent Singnet laptop offer, I finally swapped sides.
I'm plenty darn happy I did so.
Hope this is useful for you guys.
Cheers!
Thanks for sharing TS. Will go for Singnet. But, is there any way around the ~$30 quarterly bill for the phone line?
That's the only thing keping me off.

Thanks for sharing TS. Will go for Singnet. But, is there any way around the ~$30 quarterly bill for the phone line?
That's the only thing keping me off.
If u calculate per month wise. let say we take $32.90 per month 8Mbps line from Singnet and $27.50 quarterly for Singtel land line.
Land line = $27.50 divide 3 = $9.20 per month
Singnet = $32.90 per month
Total = $42.10 per month
Starhub:
Let say we take their lowest plan:
Starhub Express: $44.94 per month.
U take up Singnet, u enjoy faster speed on peak hrs less headache. and its still cheaper somemore.
wads stopping u? i already jump ship to Singnet, and they r coming over to setup my phone line this coming saturday.
