I have just subscribed to M1 1800 mobile plan ... to my horror it is extremely slow!!!

Called the tech support center but they cant offer any help other than please monitor the situation.

Using USB Huawei 220 .. even in 3.5G mode the latency to M1 first hop (traceroute) is over 500 ms and 3G mode is over 1000ms

Loading of Youtube is jerky, unusable ... and downloading email takes forever.

anyone face similar problem?

I am going to terminate it tomorrow. Any mobile broadband to recommend?

I am exactly facing the same problem as u!! I just got the plan last friday and it was still alright when i used it for the 1st time at my workplace at woodlands. But then 2day I used it, it was terribly slow!!! i thought maaybe woodlands is an "ulu" place...at least my workplace is near senoko.

But then I came back home (upper thomson area) and tested it again, same thing!!! I barely loaded speedtest.net and got like 100kbps for d/l spd, upload spd was like 10+??

sigh, how much do u need 2 pay to terminate? thank goodness I didn't get the wireless broadband router cos i wanted to share the connex btw 2 laptops, its not even enuf for one!!!

btw how do u know if it uses a 3.5g network? is it by the 3G+ thing u see on the connection window?

If the modem (huawei vodafone) in turquoise color, it is operating in 3.5G, blue is 3G

like it or not, contract is 6 months, just need to pay every month even though not completely satisfied. For early termination, there is a penalty, read your terms and conditions in fine print when you sign up.

I've been on this M1BB for 9 mths plus.

In the beginning, it was quite ok. But lately, these past few days, totally cannot surf or very slow.
Guess I will have to terminate it very soon. :(

StarHub is just as bad. I tried it before for 2 months or so. Most of the time download speed is at 1Mbps and speeds can go all the way down to GPRS speeds (even stationing at one place).

Some says M1 is ok, some condemn M1. So it really depends where you are using the service and the time of the day. Maybe M1 should let people try out the service for a week before they sign-up. In the 1 week, people try them out at places they would normally use mobile BB.
In this way, people dont get cheated for a service that dont meet their expectations. If speeds are so poor, then a name change to `M1 Mobile Dial-Up` is recommended.

I'm using StarHub Unlimited for 2 months already....
So far very good considering that I'm using it during office hours from my site office where my M1 or SingTel h/p networks sometimes get disconnected due to no coverage.
As I only pay 50% for the monthly bill since I'm also subscribe to MOL Surf-lite and with 6-mths free subscriptions for the 24-mth contract, I find it quite worth it if you're a heavy user on the go.

Good idea for pple to try for a short period...but m1 wouldn't do it cos of admin/sim/setup cost involved.

IF my memory is correct, 14.4k/28.8k/56k dial-up is even more stable than m1 broadband.
Extremely frustrating when the m1 connection is on/off and damm slow. I wouldn't call "M1 mobile dial-up"...can't think of anything worse than that thou

I was an early adopter so 24 months contract. Now I am paying eventhough I leave the modem at home and don't use it. Wireless@SG is better.

Oh I use it at times... whenever I need test cases for my programs to handle timeout exceptions and see if they work as intended.

Thanks for the information. I tried using bluetooth as connectivity. Only reach about 10 over percent download speed on a 1mbps plan. Loading web pages ard still pretty fast.

M1 2Mbps user here. Was given Huawei E1550

Surfing through my 3G router, Aztech, is always faster for me. Direct connection through USB and their software gets me less than 1mbps speedtest everytime. sometimes even 0.0 something.

But through my router, I get this always:

http://www.speedtest.net/result/606788381.png (http://www.speedtest.net)

Almost feels like there is no difference between my fixed line BB and this. Only difference when I start downloading but my downloads are even in the 200+kB/s
Maybe it could be the software bundled with the modem?

Based on the post above this by me, my findings indicate that it could be the software or driver causing the slowness, which would agree with your findings too.

Could anyone else who has a 3G router and experiencing slow connection through direct USB and bundled software try it on their router?

Can you connect a 3g mobile ( as usb modem) to your 3g modem instead of the likewise Huawei usb modem?

so its
usb modem ---> com : slow
3g mobile ---> com : fast

usb modem --->3g router ---> com: fast ( Is this how you connect?)
3g mobile ---> 3g router ---> com : ??
