AS a new user stick to the 18-55 kit lens first to shoot and learn more. Once you realsie what kand of limitations the lens imposes on you then you will know what kind of lens to add on /upgrade (70-300, 100mm macro, 17-50, 50/1.4..etc)
I think price wise should be about 1.1k++ with the kit lens. Also if they dont bundle in extra 'freebies' you might need to get your own memory card and bag to hold it. Other things you might need are dry cabinet/box , tripod, spare memory cards or battries. All these extas can cost quite a bit more...

HI,
Since this is probably your first DSLR, and since you are looking at 400D, you may want to consider 450D (just came out) which should be similar price (my guess is SGD1300 plus minus)

If you can wait, wait until 450D comes out in March. The price on 400D will surely drop since Canon normally will priced the new camera at around the same price as the model it replaces. That will mean 400D's price will drop lower.
