called cp yesterday to enquire on nikon d60 was quoted a price and freebies then went down today wanting to buy but was quoted a different price and asked about freebies and all that they said was a coffee set which i haf to collect from nikon so asked them about e price different and reply was cash only (sounds like sls) and no memory card no bag which is being given from other shops on top o coffee set then when i told them some other places selling at a lower price w freebies they say not possible and they said i should go to them instead anyways bought it from harvey norman instead a 1198 w free 2x 2g sd card, lowe bag, screen protector, tripod, cleaning kit and some slr beginer class voucher and coffee set than compared to cp 1100 w just coffee set? after reading so much abt better pricing and service on cp was very dissappointed and would not shop there again. it may be my personal experiance just want to share tis bad experiance w everyone else.

It is better to ask them to do a eQuote using email. But, do take note that they will quote all prices BEFORE GST so you need to add the 7% into the price they quoted. They will also list all freebie together with the quote. All you need to do is bring the email with you and they will honor the price within 1 week. And yes, the quote will be a CASH ONLY price (not even NETS) so do bring cash with you if you intend to buy at that price.

there are reasons for so.
cash payments will mean that they do not have to fork out the admin charges required for accessing NETS or any card. I believe they lower the price by another 3% to outside that uses NETs if i'm not wrong.
Harvey Norman was the retailer for the IT Show just last month. Definitely they can give a better package because the free gifts given during the show comes with every set that's backordered.
So if they have 800 sets ordered from Nikon and sold only 10 pcs, they'd have 790 sets with the same IT Show free gifts for sale at the same IT Show price.

By the way, CP is never the cheapest around. But they are never the highest priced as well. Normally I go there cos I knew I will never get conned. Everything is in the open.
But if you know the price, you can get from other places. I got my 40D kit from somewhee else as well.
Check before buying...

Their prices actuallie varies 1. Bought 2 camera from them b4. So during my 3rd visit there i got an equote as usual. And i specially went back to the same uncle and got a quote from him. To my surprise his quote still cant beat the equote i got vie email. Anywhere beside CP there ish also MS, john etc etc... Chk few shops n their freebies b4 buying ba.

Read my thread on buying a SLR, I've already listed out the hassle free shops that will give you the least problem(s).
My favourite on the list is now TK Foto.

CP pricing is a bit on the high side so is best to drop them a mail and ask for an e-quote before going down yourself since you have b&w to prove.
my favourite shop right now is ms colours in ang mo kio.
john 3.16 is also around CP area in funan IT mall, they give very honest feebacks but pricing wise is also on a bit of a high side but still should be cheaper than CP.

among the shops like MS colour, John 3:16, Alan Photo, CP, can anybody just go there to try out the cameras they have?
of cos got intention to buy lah...
or any other places to try the cameras w/o obligation to buy?
one place I can think of is Courts @ Tampines.
There's a thread, "FAQ: Where to buy a a DSLR", check it out.

i had a very good experience at audio house.. took quite a long time deciding between d40 and d60 but the sales guy was very patient with me, and talking me through the pros and cons. in the end i said i still wanna think about it and come back another day, and he was cool with it, not like some salespeople, you say you come back another day only pull long face. so of cos i went back to him..

not bad pricing is very competitive, and they always have promo. and for nikon cameras, they always give double the free memory card that other places give..

CP's pricing's not bad. Competitive but not cut throat.
Since the TS is comparing prices, probably a bargain hunter, if I'm Cathay Photo, I'll recommend him/her to buy elsewhere. That's professional advise.
