Hi people. Just wondering what speed you guys are getting for 8mbps line. Mine never maxed out. I am using Thomson SpeedTouch 536 that came with the plan.
Internet speed shown on my desktop is [WIRED/ Ethernet] [ DL 1300kbps ] [ UL 512kbps ]
Internet speed shown on my laptop is as follows [WIRELESS G] [ results same as for WIRED/ USB]
http://www.speedtest.net/result/266807911.png (http://www.speedtest.net)
Desktop uses Davicom DM9601 USB 10/100 Ethernet which is an Ethernet to USB adapter.
I know many 8mbps subscribers are facing the seemingly 6mbps cap. My questions are
1] How can we solve it?
2] Does anyone having the same problem with Davicom DM9601 USB 10/100 Ethernet ?

nope. I dont have an Ethernet bus to start with. That's why I use the adapter. When using the adapter, the speed is 1.3mbps. When using USB, the speed is 5.7mbps.

this is mine. omg the ping is damn bad...btw this is ethernet connection w/o proxy.

lol u r guys are damn interesting... u must know that using wireless depends on your SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio). There will be an extra base station to go through and of course, transmission will be lower than on wire.
If you can get 70% of the original speed through wireless means that your connection is good alrdy. and for the ping of 50ms... it will also depends on the their server and the line. if u r complaining that 50ms is bad... I really dunno what kind of speed u all want. 0ms?

Latency on ADSL/ADSL2+ should be in the range of 20 to 60ms when performed against SpeedTest.net's Singapore server with NewMediaExpress. However, that does not mean the latency to other servers in Singapore will be at 50ms. Other factors affect the final latency of each destination.
Furthermore, all residential broadband connections are going through proxies - be it static proxy which the user configure in their browser, or transparent proxies. SingTel/SingNet has a new range of transparent proxies - 220.255.7.xxx instead of the previous range - 165.21.154.xxx and 165.21.155.xxx.

may i suggest u try a real ethernet connection if your laptop has 1
as u can see the performance of the usb adapter is worse than direct usb
the isp cannt be blame all the time

getting 100% equivalent of the wired connection speed is possible. What makes u think otherwise?
As far as concern, mixed b/g has a throughput of 12Mbps, which SingNet dosn't provide at all.

For your Ethernet-To-USB problem, is it plugged in to a USB 2.0 or 1.1 port?
You might want to know which brand and model your mainboard is if you aren't sure about the ports.

Sad to say there is no difference. But shouldnt it be ok to use a USB connection since it can support speeds of up to 12mbps?

Some SingNet 10mbps subscribers are able to achieve beyond 12Mbps since it's 'commissioned' at a higher rate. :)
