If your primary purpose is to watch movies on your HDTV, my recommendation is the HP dv6773tx.

Simply because it comes with a Blu-ray drive, and not many laptops come with a Blu-ray drive

RRP is $2699, but i believe it should be cheaper at most places

Simply spectacular when i watch Blu-ray movies via HDMI to my 1080p LCD TV=:p

The Benq Joybook S41 comes with HDMI too.

Comparing the specs between the Joybook and Dell, you notice how much more ex Dell is?

notebooks with hdmi, serves no purpose I think..
for HD. full HD movie viewing a LCD TV is required of at least 24" I think,

Unless ur notebook has a 24" LCD screen.. Hdmi will be of no use to you..

The purpose of the HDMI is for people to view movies on their HD-capable TV.

HDMI is there to replace S-Video.

Your notebook does not need a "24" LCD screen".

Hi folks,

Beside the video aspect of having HD via HDMI connection, what do you guys solve the audio aspect ? Most of the notebook (at least I have not seen one) does not come with any coaxial or optical SPDIF output to connect to an external amp for surround sound effect.

Probably, another solution worth taking a look is Intel Atom + Nvidia Ion solution which could decode HD materials. Likewise, the chipset does have the capability to output both coaxial or optical SPDIF output (depending on the manufacturer offering).

Thanks

But connecting HDMI between notebook and TV only allow stereo and not surround sound. How do you get surround sound from HDMI ? Need special devices ?

Thanks

Don't rely on an Atom for high framerates on HD content, yet.

Cheers,

There is one method. Connect ur notebook to ur HTS or AVR via HDMI, and connect the HTS or AVR to ur TV via HDMI. This HTS or AVR will function as HDMI repeater esp for video signal, and the AVR or HTS will optionally decode and output the audio signals to the speakers connecting to it.

By the way, any bros here doign the same thing as mentioned above?

Cheers,

Zepto and Asus machines typically have the SPDIF 7.1 surround sound. Its normally configured under the sound card menu to enable 7.1 into HDMI. This is typically for the cinema buff.

My TV certainly have only 2 speakers :) However, I do have a HTS which accept coaxial digital input for 5.1 system.

Thus, if the digital audio could only be extracted from the HDMI, the that would mean another investment for a HTS with HDMI input :(

Thanks
