From comingsoon.net:

Sure to be an Oscar contender alongside Baz Luhrmann's Australia, Paramount Pictures has debuted the new trailer for David Fincher's fantasy-drama The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in theaters with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull this weekend.

The film, opening December 19, is adapted from the classic 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man (Brad Pitt) who is born in his eighties and ages backwards. A man, like any of us, unable to stop time. We follow his story set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918, into the twenty-first century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man's life can be.

Co-starring Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton, Taraji P. Henson, Jason Flemyng, Elias Koteas and Julia Ormond, "Benjamin Button" is a time traveler's tale of the people and places he bumps into along the way, the loves he loses and finds, the joys of life and the sadness of death, and what lasts beyond time.

I love their chemistry in Babel, so I think they'll be great together again in this film. Both of them look highly intellectual and their gazes just ooze awards. Cant wait to see them zapping each other with some oscar-calibre love. ;)

this is one of those rare films that makes u ponder how it relates to you and your life after u leave the theater. its about what life gives and what it takes away from u, no matter u r growing older, or younger, each day. it is not a passionate film, but rather, quietly melancholic. acting and cinematography is phenomenal, the makeup and visual effects even more so. a definite must-watch

When I was born my mom said I looked like an old man. Like everyone else, I turned out to be pretty normal, unlike The Curious Case of Benjamin Button where he's physically developing in the opposite, suffering from common aged ailments like cataracts, hearing, and arthritis first, but mentally developing in proper chronology. One can imagine the challenges of everyone thinking you'll die soon enough, before a miracle actually happens and you're like having drunk some elixir of life, probably a little too much too.

Like Lord of the Rings? Some movies juz demand to be seen on the big screen. For Benjamin Button, think no difference whether to be seen on big or small screen.

blu-ray aint that expensive if u know where to buy. I've oredi passed the stage when I have to go to the movie theatre due to time constraints and the behaviour of some ugly S'poreans. So unless a movie really demands to be seen on the big screen, I'll succumb to the pleasures of home video. Moreover, think my HTS is better than some cinemas. :P

I've heard that there are similarities between Benjamin Button and Forrest Gump so I have a feeling Slumdog may win Best Pic due to its originality.

Just watched Benjamin .. conclusion: it does not//will not get a Best Pic win. Unlike Forest Gump, I was sitting throughout Benjamin Buttons, finding out the "objective" of the plot. It felt meaningless and the story was rather sublime, if you discard the creative age effects and the cinematography.

Amongst the Best Pic nominees, I have only watch Slumdog.M. And i felt it was totally refreshing and very creative.

I just dont understand the anticipation and hoo-hah on this movie. Yes its a better than average movie but there are just too many similarities with Forrest Gump and The Notebook. Things just seem too cliche in the movie. The only saving points are its cinematography.

How come a fishing boat can sink a submarine? :s11:

This is weird. That submarine can be destroyed so easily by collision?

The most pitiful part is that Benjamin could not see his daughter grow up personally. He even could not be her father. That is very sad.

It's really Forest Gump with Brad Pitt aging backwards. The character of Daisy is very similar to Gump's childhood girlfriend.

From the digitalbits.com:

In announcement news today, Paramount has officially revealed that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a co-production with Criterion. So there will be a single-disc DVD edition (SRP $29.99) and two-disc Criterion DVD and Blu-ray editions (SRP $39.99 each), all due on 5/5. The single-disc DVD is movie-only. The Criterion versions will include audio commentary with director David Fincher and the 4-part The Curious Birth of Benjamin Button documentary (on the beginnings of the project, the production from Day One, the visual effects and the release to theatres).

Time plays an important role in Benjamin Button and there are plenty of life lessons to be learnt from David Fincher's poignant masterpiece as we comtemplate the passage of time through the eyes of Benjamin Button, who through some miraculous intervention, ages physically backwards in time. Even though the movie did not fall into the pithole of being a melodramatic weepie (thanks to the restraint direction of Fincher), the movie will touch you nonetheless. It was mentioned in the essay by Kent Jones that even though there may be some similarities between Forrest Gump and Benjamin Button, Fincher never allowed the major historical events to dominate over the storyline like the former. Here, the events served as merely backdrops to Benjamin's journey through life and its misgivings.

Kent Jones wrote that "Every second of Benjamin Button, every shot and every cut, every gesture and every facial expression, every turn in its narrative and every visual effect, is devoted to the comtemplation of time's passing." While doing so, I applaud the director for his artistic achievement in making every scene and frame so delicately beautiful.

No one stays perfect forever and a perfect moment will not stay still forever. Guess we have to learn to deal with the creases of time and make every single moment count rather than lamenting for long lost youth or missed opportunities.
