Not really. The use of BT is to supposedly make use of everyone's upload for fast delivery. Even if the torrent health % is v low in this case, each peer can contribute to the dl of everyone, higher than 2 seeders who uploads to you.
Me ish can hit max theorectical rate of my plan :D

Oh, mine?
I use uTorrent default setting with maximum upload :D
YMMV
Varies. For SNBB 3Mbps plan, usually 200KB/s. Sometimes can near max out at 350+ KB/s. If too slow as in <100KB/s, I just reboot and try reconnect again. Always works.

After being a loyal Max Online customer for the past 6 years, Starhub has dissapointed me with slow internet speed. I have called their help line many times and the problem of slow internet speed has never been resolved. I am hearby announcing that I will cancel my Max Online account at the end of May.
And yes, I am really getting ****ty download speed, if you think your 30kbs is slow, you should come see my 8 - 5 kbps download.

Report Finds StarHub Blocking BitTorrent Traffic
Internet and Networking | Reads from WWW
Fri 23 May 2008
digg icon digg this slashdot icon slashdot this
In a report done by German institute concerning Bittorrent blocking activities in various parts of the world, StarHub has been named as one of the few ISPs in the world that engages in Bittorrent traffic blocking. According to the report, StarHub is actively blocking users from uploading data to other users, which in turn slows down Bittorrent download speeds. Do note that the study also states this blocking is different from active throttling that ISPs may also do. Furthermore, this is not the end all conclusive report, as they are still fine tuning the data collection and analysis methods.
Max Planck Institute - More than 8,000 users from locations around the world have used our tool, Glasnost, to test whether their BitTorrent traffic is being manipulated. On this page, we present preliminary results from these tests. The tests were conducted between March 18th and May 15th 2008. We will update this page with more detailed results as we get more data from the tests. We also hope to uncover more cases of blocking as we refine our measurement tool and our analysis. So make sure to check back later. Alternately, you can stay up-to-date on our findings by subscribing to the glasnost-updates mailing list.
See here (http://broadband.mpi-sws.mpg.de/transparency/results/) for the full report.
HWZ.com has also checked with StarHub and has gotten the following reply from the StarHub spokesperson regarding the above issue:
"It is a known fact that P2P traffic is bandwidth intensive and can use up significant network resources. Hence, all ISPs employ bandwidth management tools to ensure that all traffic is given equal priority such that the service expectations of their online users are met. We do not specifically block P2P traffic. Like all ISPs in the world, we do, however, employ bandwidth management tools to ensure that all our customers receive an optimal surfing experience."

Hi, I m a novice in IT, hence not a technical person, do you mind if you can elaborate?
I am running on 1mbps (i know its a bit slow, the slowest of its kind), and have tried all the methods instructed by the bros here, and I m getting my fastest downloads at 30 kB/s, is it normal?
However, when I run the utorrent prot checker, it states error, port XXXX does not appear to be open.
How can I solve it? Thks.

Toolbox -> Firewall
screenshot n post here. or u might wan to try out to input the port. the forward port wil be at utorrent preferences(under options) -> Connection. from there u can c the port number used for incoming connections. also tick "Add Windows Firewall exception".
under another preferences, BitTorrent. check if it is "Enabled" under Protocol Encryption, Outgoing. also tick "Allow incoming legacy connections".

So would you say that SH is not throttling, limiting, blocking your torrents? Rather its that public seeders are kiam siap and you're getting good speed because of good seeders from private trackers?

it's the time to re-con BB, so MOL or SNBB for uT?
I doing either Singtel MIO (3Mbps) or Starhub 3-in-1. (2Mbps)
likely during IT Show. Cost-aside, bandwidth aside, freebies-aside (about the same).
which's better for BiT?
Please enlighten.

Is it 30kB/s even when you try other torrents or have more than 1 torrent? if it is, set the upload limit of utorrent to more than 5kB/s. encountered this earlier, actually a 'feature' of utorrent :s13: my bad.
1mbps actually not that bad.

I had reasonable speed of 40-50kb/s with XP Professional on Starhub Maxonline Express.
When I upgraded to Vista Home, the connections became super sh*tty at just 2-5kb/s max.
Luckily I came across these guides here.

Now I can get average download speed of 200kb/s!!!!
Below shows a 1.78GB file downloading at 237kb/s and estimated time of just 2 hours plus!
The good thing is I can still surf the Internet reasonably fast while downloading. :)
