i woyuld pick i780.
as i780 got tocuh screen, and better layout of the qwerty keys. only the camera is quite disappointing. only 2mp and no flash.
other than that i780 is MS 6.0
while e71 is symbian

im deciding btw these 2 as well.. E71 keypad seems easier to press, compared to i780... but general perception of nokia after sales support is not too good... urghh which one??

E71 would be a better choice 4 longer batt life, simplier interface for pure email req. Cam is better at 3M so its a more balanced choice i think. Smaller too.

for WM devices you got to check out the processor the phone is on, WM devices seriously lag with a slow processor, while the symbian ones wont, particularly with the E71.
as for the camera, E71 3megapixel cant make it. thus i would say its not a very valid competitive point. Anyway smart phones cameras arent better than those normal multimedia ones.

I had this dilemma too..
After test driving both the i780 and the E71, I picked the latter..
Reasons being:
1. Found the keypad easier to use (did not end up with sore thumbs)
2. Was a bit tired having come from a WM6 device to have to go thru the whole rut to install another slew of programs just to get it to work the way I want it to work

i would choose E71.
manage to get a feel of it today and it's exterior is very attractive.
functions wise is almost e same as N95. got wifi & gps.

i'm posting this from my E71 now... Kekeke.. But have to note that nokia maps is expensive, so you have to be prepared to buy 3rd party software like mapking or garmin. Nokia maps is charging 69.99 euros for 1 yr's subscription.

Even though the qwerty keyboard looks small (wait it is small). It s very good to type in.
I had no problem sending out a 2 page reply email. The dictionary is quite intuitive. if you were a previous WM user using a stylus on the screen keyboard is really great (even faster than thumbs. If you get used to the touch mouse even better as you can use the dictionary faster.
by the way I have FAT thumbs and it took me a while to get used to a qwery layout but after a few SMS I got used to it. To note having the keys shaped as round stubs really helped. compared to the Atom keyboard with a bigger layout but is flush due to the slider form factor.
I haven't found my phone sluggish as noted by some. Just think that the i780 has a PXA 624Mhz processor on a slim PDA phone. My gripe is its quite wide but not as wide as the Moto Q9 or even a blackberry.
one more gripe PDA cases for the i780 is hard to come by and some are even very expensive. I settled for a belt holster case as I put my wallet in my front pockets. It has a Samsung logo on the magnetic flap cover. cost me about 30SGD.
