AVG 8.0 users,

Right after startup, at the point where u log in and everything including AVG loads up.

Do you notice that the AVG is loading very slowly?I mean, the whole program has already loaded but, if u try to open it up - the Firewall component has not fully loaded and only after a few mins later will the screen blink and the firewall prompt message(sayign which network assignment) will show?

The point is, during the slow loading of the Firewall component the Network Connection section of Control Panel is totally unaccessible. The window will hang and will only work fully when firewall has started.Happen also if u open by the icon in the taskbar. You cannot even see the Notification Panel(the Connected To: notification when u click the icon once) as it will only grey and hang if u click on it.AVG can load but will hang once u click on it too

This is a bore because say,if u wanna connect to a network,u have to wait for firewall to load fully so that teh Network Connection can work fully and u can select the network to connect to.No issue if u set auto connect.

I've been noticing this since i upgraded from 7.5, 7.5 have no issue at all.

Is AVG 7.5 still supported? Im thinking of reverting back to AVG 7.5

I had tried AVG Free Edition, not paid version. When start up, a pop up to update make the system slow down. Very bored.
And importance is that after removed it and installed KIS 2009, I made a full scan. Dun you know, tons of vulnerabilities detected by KIS.

Would wish to, my subscription to AVG is 8 months down the road with 16 more to go :(

Heard that AVG 7.5 is supported with updates till end of the year according to websites, can anyone confirm this?Maybe i stick to 7.5 till that period and then switch to AVG 8.Which by then hopefully no more problems.

Er,by the way im referring to AVG Internet Security 8.0

You are going to think that I am absolutely crazy. I experienced the same exact symptoms as stated above. Everything was basically frozen until AVG popped up and said that the firewall did its little network assignment. This was a brand new system with a fresh copy of xp pro. I tried everything to trouble shoot. Finally, I reinstalled with another fresh copy of XP. Very frustrating to say the least. I then installed drivers and programs 1 by 1 and restarted between each install.

Everything loaded very quickly until I INSTALLED THE SOFTWARE TO MY BLASTED HP PRINTER. Sure enough, the system would hang until the firewall network assignment was made. I did a system restore back to before the HP software was installed and she fired up and worked like a dream!

To further test my theory, I uninstalled AVG and the same results applied - with HP software is would hang - without HP software it would run perfect. I installed bitdefender (another really good anti-virus program) Once again, same results.

It is not the actual firewall that was causing the problem. Something is HP's software was clogging things up.

Conclusion: I restored back before the HP software. I went to HP's website and downloaded just the barebones drivers without any of the other bloat ware. Everything works perfectly. Who would have thought a stinking software suite to a printer could cause so much grief! Let me know if you have the same results!

Digged old thread, no doubts about it, but thanks cbconor for the effort to update us on the possible fix.
