Is it still under warranty? If so, it may be voided if you attempt to open yourself.

Think will void warranty.
Theres a warranty sticker over one of the screws.
Anyway raven, whats the disk inside? Since you opened yours :)

yup is green power, the only thing is they only spin at 5,400RPM, which can result in lower performance.

I didnt remember WD actually disclose the RPM of that GP 1TB. Its between 5400 and 7200 as many have stated.
WD 1TB GP wasnt target as a fast drive at the first place, its use as a storage drive whereby noise and temp is a concern. I owned one before and its a silent and cooling running storage drive.
IF one would to use it for appilcation or for OS related, i suggest going for others than this 1TB GP.

Both are using the same HDD. Just that one for easy carry and the other one for home usage whereby you wont be bringing around.

Hello,
does anyone have an answer to the thread title: How to open a Western Digital Elements Portable Harddisk? Portable means 2.5'', not 3.5'' ;)
I only found this thread: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/archive/index.php/t-1798732.html ("How to open up the WD Elements 2.5 hdd casing") But it is not available :(
