Hey Bros,
Yesterday i went SLS and wanted to get a IDE hdd for my old P4 PC.
Can i use those 500GB drives on my PC? It's an old P4-2.4 using INTEL 845 chipset.
All those shop people all say dunno can work or not.
Is it worth it to get a PCI SATA card and a SATA drive? or how about those SATA to IDE converter cables / plugs?

It's all got to be with your M/B on supporting the HDD.
As for those SATA to USB converter. It is not advisable.
I bought it barely one month, and it is not working anymore.
For your information, i seldom use it anyway.
My advise to you, to play safe. you may want to grab those external HDD.
It can be supported quite well on windows.

my motherboard is abit BE7 ... i checked the manual but it doesn't say anything about max hdd size ,,, anyway i think when this motherboard was design, there wasn't so big hard disk anyway.

I845 series chipset can support the largest capacity drive in the market as of now.
500gb is peanut for this chipset.

Don't know is MB or PSU problem, mostly is PSU problem. I have 2 desktop. HEC ZEPHR 750W, GA-EP45-DS3R,GA-P35C-DS3R. Tried to use more then 2 x 500gb seagate HD in one unit. I seems like there are power surge & auto reboot frequently. Most of the time will also hear either HD making noise "tic tic", that means supply problem. When I removed 1 HD, works quite fine, only once in a blue moon it will auto reboot. Have also tried with only 1.5 TB(Window), worst, lagged + auto reboot. Give up, both of my desktop use only 500gb HD & setup a NAS with 1.5TB+0.5TB. Last few days ago I saw in the internet HD now have low power consumption but don't know can work or not. One thing I'm quite sure, if you uses a lot of hardware on your system with normal PSU, surely you will face the "window hanged" problem.
