is Asus G70 the best in the market now?

Can someone help me i really cant decide G70, m1730 or X300.

I am buying for gaming.

After i config M1730 to the specs of G70 the price is $6000+++.

G70 is 4999

Single 8800M GTX beats a SLI 8700M GT.

Also, I'm completely clueless as to how you managed to configure a M1730 to the specs of a G70 and have it cost $6000+. I just configured a M1730 that's better than the G70 and it hasn't even hit $5000.

Lastly...I seriously hope that you weren't referring to the Lenovo Thinkpad X300 for gaming.

No one uses laptop for gaming. And if you can invest $6000 on a laptop, get a desktop then. It'll be 3 times better than all of the laptops.

That is the stupidest thing I ever heard.

True. Here's a suggestion, you might as well bring your entire desktop everywhere you go including the tower and monitor.

It depends on what kind of games you're going to play and what is your expectation of gameplay's graphical quality you want.

Yah the currently best gaming laptop is the M1730. everything you need is in it.
EDIT: SLI in M1730 is still far better than X300's. The series doesn't matter. Cathy says it all. :)

although i game but i don't do it for hours. max maybe 4-5 hrs continously. i always go to my friend place for gaming session. n sometimes i surf the net in the living rm sometimes in the bed rm. as for the weight i dont mind if it is heavy.

i play simple online games combat arms, cabal, 2 moons. i am now playing on my 12 inch dell which is bad for my eyes.
my wife likes to download movies n hk serials. so she wants me to get a bigger laptop.

back to the lappy thingy.
i really like the look of the toshiba x300 but is it worth the 4k or should i config a dell.

sounds u don't need that kind of laptops to play your kind of games. you can get a 15-17 inch laptop for about $2k+ that is more than sufficient for your needs. HP's DV5 1034-1036TX, Zepto Nox/Mythos/Hydra and dell xps series all good imo.

It's gonna be a little bit complicated to explain, but the 8800M GTX is the 3rd most powerful Nvidia Mobile graphics card, and is only beaten by the 9800M GT and the 9800M GTX. Everything else loses to it.

Regarding the whole dual thing, most of it is just crap to make it sound more appealing to someone who doesn't know much about computers. Dual hard drives basically means that there is room for 2 hard drives, which means double the storage space.

The most interesting feature would be the dual graphics. Dual graphics is when you link 2 graphic cards to work together through SLI (Nvidia cards) or CrossFire (ATI cards). However just because there are 2 graphic cards doesn't mean it gives you double the performance, as many games aren't coded properly to support it. Realisticly, it gives you a 0% to 40% boost depending on the game that you are playing. For this reason, many people prefer getting a single powerful card.

Anyway if you are looking to game, the most important thing would be the graphics card. To make it simple for you...

8800M GTX > 9700M GTS > 8700M GT

If you aren't gonna play those really graphics-intensive games then just get a laptop with mid-range graphics.

It's definitely not worth the $5000 for a gaming laptop. With that money, you can get a gaming desktop and that can actually last longer than a gaming laptop, and it's easier to service and maintain.

Dual graphics in a laptop means more heat will be generated. It's not really a big deal and if you want one you would want to get it for a desktop instead.

So i think i understand a little bit now. single card is better than dual cause of the heat issue with laptop. Dual is not really needed. 9800 is the best for laptop. The Asus G70 with the whole dual thingy is just to confuse noobs like myself.

Now i am so wanting to get a desktop instead. The only problem is that i have one desktop pentium 4 on my desk now seldom used. I have a M1210 which i brought last may for 2.7k n a eee 901. I really need something that can last me like for the next 4-5 years. I have been blowing $$$ on gadgets n stuff, makes me feel guilty.

If you really want something that will last you for the next 4-5 years, a desktop is the way to go, solely for its upgradability. Plus a desktop is so bang for the buck, $2000 will get you a high-end desktop but can barely get you a mid-range laptop.

IMHO, it's better not to spend more than $3,500 on laptops..technology changes so quickly. Pretty soon, yr lappy may be obsolete.. Even though this has one of the best graphic cards around, I would rather spend the $5277 to built a super desktop :)

Just got a 17" Acer for myself modded to the following specs: -

- Processor - Inter(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T9300
- Memory - 4 GB DDR2 Ram
- Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512MB with multiple output options (S-Video, HDMI etc)
- Operating System - Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit (with Windows Office 2007 Students Version thrown in)
- HDD - 100GB 7200rpm Primary + 250GB 5400rpm Secondary
- Optical - Bluray integrated DVD-R
- Internal - LAN + Wifi AGN
- 1400 x 900 hi-def 17" monitor with built-in 1.3M Webcam

I got it shipped in from the states through ebay and it costed me under US$1,400.00 (approx. S$2,000.00) including courier, and for those of you wondering if its used or refurbished, it is a new machine with a 1 year international warranty from Acer.

All OS and softwares went through authenticity verifications on Microsoft.com. Just needed to download a bunch of free-wares (VLC, AVG, Spybot, IMGBurn etc).

I've got it for a month and played "Hellgate London", "Spore" etc on this machine and it's been beautiful so far.

Low budget gamers (like myself) might want to consider this option and it'll easily save you 1/3 if not 1/2 as compared to buying retail in Singapore. But if you wanna do this you need to be really comfortable shopping online via the likes of eBay and be extra careful coz there'll always be some bad seeds online trying to scam money.

FYI,

A typical delivery is based on volumetric weight, which is typically 6kg for a laptop box. Delivery will not be based on the laptop weight itself. After that, you should add the GST to get your pricing.

A lot of these laptops are not upgradable, which is why we're probably not able to compete in pricing as we're in it for the long term service, support and upgrading.

Personally my feeling is that the Zepto Hydra is the best gaming laptop on the face of the earth right now ...

specs wise it is very very cheap compared to other gaming laptop vendors ...

you go to the australia alienware site to configure a 15" laptop with only the 8800 GTX ...

and you will suddenly be amazed with the price tag of 4500 AUD ...

so there you go ...

for 3800 SGD the hydra is a bargain ...

not to mention that most of the components in the hydra is upgradable too ...

Just my personal opinion ...

the guy who sold it to me offered free delivery to US buyers so he took that equivalent amount off my courier charges as a discount, and it eventually costed US$25 to me. Actual full cost I did not ask, nor did I looked at the payment sticker before I threw the courier box package away.

He sent it out on a Friday, and I got it 2 Mondays later, so 6 working days, 10 actual days including Saturday and Sunday and excluding the day he sent it on.

yeah.. i guessed i was a little too impatient.. was looking at the 20" HP Dragon but the price was fluctuating quite a bit.. so when I saw the Acer 17" at that price, and with Bluray somemore, and Hellgate started jerking on my Dell Inspiron 15", I just kinda got trigger-happy.. or "left mouse button"-happy in this case..

anyway nevermind la.. buy buy already la.. haha..

by the way... anyone played "warhammer online" yet? how does it feel compared to "wow"? i play "wow" quite a bit, is it different enough gameplay-wise to feel like 2 completely different games or will i get mixed up between my characters? or am i not supposed to ask this question in this forum?

thank thanks.. :s13:

don't intend to get an acer anw but asking cos i want to have an estimate of the courier charges and panglukit, did u have to pay GST?

oops.. missed out on the GST.. guess i am as impatient with my buying as i am with my replying...

hmmm... GST... so far no one has asked me for it.. and if i remember correctly, GST can only be charged by services provided who has an overturn in excess of S$1mil per annum.. i think most eBay sellers don't meet that requirement.. so if some wise guy ask you for that extra 7%, you might wanna quetion his authority.. :D

hmmm... sshhh... i hope there's no GST for receiving postal or courier package of value > S$400.. heehee... hmmm... wait.. oops... wrong forum again.. let's go back to best gaming notebooks...

wonder if there's a forum for GST... or a forum for importing... or a forum where laptop shop operators keep a lookout for, and blacklist people who suggest other forumers to buy their lappies from else where... heeheehee...

Hi all, the following is Vpost reply on the Vconcierge service, hope its useful for all:

vPOST's vConcierge service is used primarily to make purchases from US merchants who does not accept International credit cards e.g. Singapore issued credit cards.

Secondly its for customers who wishes to purchase items from US but does not wish to use their own credit cards. Therefore in order to fulfill its primary service criteria, we have to engage a third party to assist us in owning a US issued credit card (i.e. VISA and AMEX) for us to make such purchases on behalf of our customers.

We do not attempt to place an order first, the process would have to be for us to confirm the price of the items from the vConcierge requests from the websites provided by the you. Once the prices are confirmed, we will then request you to make payment for the order, after which we will then proceed to make the online purchase to send it to our USA shipping address.

This is to ensure that the customers are comfortable with the confirmed price of the items plus the service fee for vConcierge service, and to minimize any cancellation of orders should the customer then feel that they do not want to make the purchase anymore.

Kindly please refer to our website for more details on our service as well as terms and conditions.

https://www.vpost.com.sg/vConcierge05/vcon_index.htm

Below is the procedures on how our service works:

1. You will have to log in to your vPOST account ( after you have register with vPOST ) and submit a vConcierge Request Form.
2. Please note when you submit the vConcierge Request Form , you will have to provide us the following details :
- Merchant Name
- Merchant website URL
- Item description
- All the specific item`s URL ( you can list this in the remarks column )
- Price of the item
- Colour requested
- Size of the item

You may include other additional information in remarks column due to limited spacing the column provided.

**You will have to note that vConcierge do not process request for sales items**

3. Once the request form have been submitted , we will take about 1 - 2 working days to process the request for you. After the request have been process , you will receive an email quotation as well as a payment advice link to inform / charge you the following :
- Value Of Goods
- US shipping Charge
- US Sales Tax
- vConcierge Fee of $20.38 + 5.1 % ( of the invoice value )

The payment spree is valid for two days only.

If you are submitting request on the same day (provided the same merchant ) you will only be charge once. Please refer to the examples i have provided below :

Example A :
1st request : Amazon ( submitted on the day 1 )
2nd request : Amazon ( submitted on the day 1 )
In this case , you will only be charge once for the vConcierge Fee. Because you submitted the request form for the same merchant and on the same day.

Example B :

1st request : Amazon ( submitted on day 1 )
2nd request : Urban Outfitters ( submitted on day 1 )
In this case , you will be charge twice for the vConcierge Fee. Because you submitted request for different merchant.

Example C :

1st request : Amazon ( submitted on the day 1 )
2nd request : Amazon ( submitted on the day 2 )

In this case , you will be charge twice for the vConcierge Fee , Because you submitted the request on different day.

4. Once you have agreed with the prices charges, you may make payment via your own Enets or credit card within the two days. Then we will proceed to place the order with the merchant on your behalf. The order will be placed between 3 - 5 working days depending on when you make payment.
5. After the order have been placed. You will receive a separate email from us to inform you about the order number ( order confirmation number ). Please do note that acceptance of successful order will depends on each individual merchants' rules and policy.
6. We will have to wait for the package to arrive at our US shipping address. Once the package have reach our US shipping address we will match the package with the invoice that you have provided and you will receive a email ( shipment alert ) to make payment for vPOSTUSA shipping charges.
7. Once you have make payment for the vPOST shipping charge , we will take 5 - 8 working days for us to process the package and deliver to you. The package will be deliver to the address that you have provided in your vPOST account.

Hope the above clarifies. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us at the following email address or you can call our Customer Service Hotline : 1605

Oops... Theres only one place to see a Zepto at the moment. We're hoping the resellers would be able to buy display units as we've invested all on the pre-orders.

And you mentioned you also "use Vii PCTrade ... as a Service Partner".
So how can you service at that place when the guy at Vii PCTrade didn't even know what a "Zepto" is?

You sure or not? :s7:

Who did you speak to?

This is odd that they do not know Zepto as they are supposed to. The website is outdated for the Funan place as Vii PCTrade only wants to do upgrades and not servicing now. Marina Square is the official Service drop-off point + display. There is a bug where the site does not seem to update the FAQs properly as I remember that entry for Funan servicing was removed a while ago..
