Well.

Just placed my order for the Canon SX10 IS from Amazon.com. Paid USD$360.99 for it and they threw in a Kingston 4GB Class 4 SDHC card FOC. Coupled with the one-month trial of their Amazon Prime service, I managed to get free 2-day shipping out of them as well, so hopefully, I should get everything by next week.

Yay.

How will warranty be handled when you order from Amazon.com?

Good question, tempted to buy electronic stuff online a few times but held back coz of this issue.

Anyone can enlighten?

Actually, I have thought about this issue and I would suppose that the warranty wouldn't be valid once it's brought into S'pore. But given my experiences with the 3 digital cameras I've bought till date, I have yet to utilize the warranty for them within the first year, so if my luck holds out, the warranty problem shouldn't pose much of an issue, though some of you may argue that it is prudent to play safe.

Anyhow, the SX10IS costs me apprx SGD$540, so I guess if it goes bonkers on me during the first year, the $150 I've saved (based on list price of S5IS) would help to cover some of the cost...

:D

As per the image above, there's an attachment at the end of the lens.

Could someone kindly enlighten me as to what it's called, what it does and how much does it cost?

I just got mine today at $705 :) Love it! And will abuse it the next few weeks.

The image stablizer works great and at 20x Zoom (520mm), the pic is crystal clear!

Note that the threads on the lens are not for 52mm filter. Although it may "fit", it does not screw in deeply..

i read forum that many people said that also. that why before i buy i ask the seller to try it on for me to check first and it did screw tight enough that will not drop out easily. anyway i am using the hoya brand.

Did you mean the front of the lens? That is a lens hood. It should be included in the package when you purchased the camera. For the cost, I am not very sure because I have bought one before.

Hi, You can try SimLim Sq 6 floor, on the left once you get out of the lift. You will not miss as there is only a shop at #06 that sell camera staff.

The UV (Hoya Brand) they sell about $12 only (at #01 most shop quote about $15). The screen protector only $5.

As my last post, i got the UV at $10 and protector free cause i brought with the SX10 at that time.

Xeno,

so have you managed to rec your SX10 successfully from Amazon?

I juz tried to order it from Amazon, but was prevented from checking out. Said something about the warranty is only within US, thus not delivering the item to certain locations.

Yep, have received it in good condition and been playing with it for the past two weeks.

IIRC, you can't have it shipped outside of the U.S. due to the limited warranty. But if you are a VPostUSA user, you can have Amazon.com ship it to the VPostUSA address, and then have it delivered to S'pore. All in all, after factoring in shipping + GST, I paid apprx $620 for the SX10IS.

Xeno,

thanks for the reply. Nope, i'm not a Vpost user.
I guess, to save me all the trouble, I'll juz pay a bit more and get it from Alan Photo.

You will not regret your decision, Alan Photo has a great customer-service oriented staff. Be sure to act blur and attempt to bargain for more freebies or reduction in price they offered without freebies. Act resistant after 10 minutes of persuasion, the salesmen will eventually attempt to relent a little to close the deal,

Dun go in straight and buy and walk out of the shop! Be an informed customer!

If this crap helps, please thank me! :)

Tom&Jerry,

hahahah ..... ok will let u know if it works. Thx.
Won't be purchasing so soon though. My S1 is still working quite well ...
Will only get SX10 probably next Jan or Feb.
Wanted to trade in if possble. But Alan Photo doesn't offer that.
Canon centre does that of course, but at a lousy rate.

have done some extensive research and the conclusion is 52mm filter will fit onto the SX10 IS lens where the lens cap will clip on... but whether it sits nicely straight/parallel or slightly slanted I'm not sure, can anyone who has the set up comment on this n photo quality...

however the other better option is to get an adaptor from http://lensmateonline.com/newsite/SX10SX1.html which allows u to fit 58mm filters properly... the downside is the SX10 IS hood can't be used anymore n u'd need a new OEM 58mm lens cover.

right now am pretty torn between this 2 optons, so so any bros/sis here have fitted a 52mm filter directly onto your SX10, care to share experience?
