Any external dvd burner to intro?

Hi... I wanna buy an external dvd burner for my laptop... but I'm not sure how to choose ... heard about those region free thingy and got confuse...:( Any kind soul please guide me out of darkness :o

All drives can be made region free with AnyDvd except for Panasonic, which can NEVER be made region free.


Drives to avoid at Sim Lim / Funan :

1. Prestigio (Panasonic UJ870 clone)
2. Panasonic

Drives recommended :
1. LG GSA-E50N and other similar models
2. Lacie (Brown case designed by Sam Hecht) - Samsung SNS 082 Lightsribe drive clone

Sony drives are also pretty good but note that it needs an external power adaptor and cannot run directly from USB.

Try Chamoxa Office (sorry if I spelled the name wrongly).

If I am not wrong, I bought this (LG GP08 8x Slim Portable DvD Writer w/LightScribe..169) at 149sgd at Chaxoma.

If checked Fuwell prices but decided to buy from Chaxoma in SLS because it was cheaper.

The advantage of this drive is that it does not require an external power if your laptop is one of the newer one with more power inside the usb port. My old Pentium M lappy can support reading but burning (need more power) but my new lappy (Core 2 Duo) can support both. Even my newest Dell Mini 9 also can support. So it depend on the age of the lappy.

I am using a lenovo s10, thinking to get dvd writer so that sometimes i can play and rip audio cd too.
