Milan legend Paolo Maldini signed on to play another year in order to give half of his wages to charity, according to Tuttosport.
The Italian left-back has been an example and role model to every player in the game, from grass roots learners to some of the world's greats.
He was close to hanging up his boots in the summer but he decided to beat the pain barrier and play on for another season.
Why? To help those who have much less than he has.
Tuttosport claims Il Capitano is giving away 50 percent of his wages to the charity of his choice, and this was the major reason as to why he decided to play another year.
Milan had offered Maldini €1.5 million for the season but the stopper pushed for €3m.
The Rossoneri gave him what he wanted and half of that amount will go towards helping those who need it most.
Over the years the player has donated plenty to good causes and his latest gesture shows just why he has become one of the most admired figures in the game, not just for his football on the pitch, but as a person too.

The news sounded like something one would expect from such a distinguished player, but Maldini has denied the claims.
"With respect to what was written in the papers on Thursday morning about my contract, it's totally unfounded news," Maldini told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
"I have never given away half of my wages to charity, my contract agreement is not this.
"I haven't taken an offence but I am annoyed at what has been written.
"If people want to know things then they should ask as I am avaliable to do interviews as part of my role as a professional footballer."
Maldini has been a loyal servant to Milan over the years and he has become a role model for players around the world for his greatness as a football on the pitch and as a person off it.

still an exemplary role model of a player we should all learn from.
when Eboue dived in last season's champions league tie, Maldini got up and pat on Eboue's shoulder and gave him a 'i knew what you did, don't do that again' kind of smile.

make no difference la. he earns 1.5mil a year, den pushed for 3mil so he can donate 1.5mil to charity and still retains his 1.5mil per year. rofl. if he gives away 0.75mil of his current 1.5mil, den thats something

Play for free. Joseba Etxeberria does that for Atletic Madrid. Now that's class. Isn't he a role model?
EDIT: It's Athletic Bilbao. Sorry for the mistake.

Yes, but it's actually Athletic Bilbao, they have the policy of signing only Basque natives.
