hi,

i am currently using 2wire (2wire 2700HG-D) for mioTV. It is connected to my router thru wireless devices at mioTV end and router end (not the powerline wireless).

Is it possible to use the 2wire router in modem mode and connect it to a better router? I read from threads it seems that mioTV doesn't work with routers other than 2wire.

Thats not the reason
mioTV needs a direct PPPoE connection instead.

No. The STB has to be connected direct to the modem instead. Any modem shld work

can i buy a new router, set the 2wire router to bridge mode, using it only as a modem and use it in the below config?

The mioTV is connected via ruckus.

I've tried a configuration something like yours but a bit different. I'm using FTTH so I have an extra device which I just call it FTTH Modem. The configuration that I've tries is as follows :-

TV -> 2wire -> FTTH Modem
Phone -> 2wire -> FTTH Modem
All Computers -> SMC -> 2wire -> FTTH Modem

Since TV might need direct connection and my SMC doesn't support IP Phone, I have to connect those 2 directly to the 2wire.

The reason why I did this was because the bloody 2 wire router/modem port forwarding for port 80 doesn't bloody work. So my aim was to give DMZ to SMC and therefore use the SMC to manage the port forwarding. But you want to know what happened?

Ended up I can't connect to the internet because the 2 wire is too stupid to manage the ip address correctly resulting in IP address conflicts. When I'm behind SMC, 2 wire will also prompt me that I am at a router behind a router configuration when I tried to surf the web.

Conclusion
It doesn't work for me. Maybe it might work for you. Since you can connect all your devices to the router behind SMC and use 2 wire solely as a modem. You might want to borrow a router from your friend first to try before you buy one.

Err, it should be called an optical network terminal(ONT) if based on GPON. [Got peekture of the set?]
From ONT ethernet to the 2701 broadband port?

Can disable the additional router detection one

yes you can bridge 2wire. so your connection will be through a wireless router.

With MIO the traffic is bridged on the wired interface and routed on the wireless one. As far I understand this cannot be changed and this is a customization of the 2wire IOS performed by Singtel. MIO uses a PVC/VLAN combination so the WAN/Wired LAN are bridged. It is quite a strange way to install an IPTV service but I guess it minimized the changes on SingTel infrastructure when they setup the service. Recently my MIO crash and three guys (yes 3!) came to repair it. When I asked, one of the guy told me that SingTel will soon change this MIO bridge configuration and that the WAN/Wired LAN will be switch back to a more normal router mode. I guess this will fix your problem.

Here's the image of the ONT. Sorry I can't find any good camera lying around so have to use the crappy HTC TyTN II camera.

Optic point. (Wonder what its called). Connected by a very thin and fragile glass core cable. Surprisingly glass can bend. :)

There's a Singtel logo on top of the Ericsson (Made in china) ONT.
My SMC Barricade is sitting idle. Don't know what to do with it.

Cant see the brand/model

Single or multimode fibre conn both can bend one. Of cos not near 90degree where the core will break.

Connect the 2wire to your SMC WAN and DMZ to it lor. The router behind router annoyance can disable one

The brand/model is underneath the device.
Yeah I know but since the TV and Phone requires the 2wire, when I DMZ the SMC and disable the annoyance, there's an IP conflict. I've yet to try other solutions.

Hello guys,

Just to share with you my setup - 1 SMC [SMC7904BRA2] works for all. It's damn old model, but works just fine.

My Setup:
line -- Phone
|
SMC Router --- MioTV box
|---------- Computers

The problem for SNBB and MioTV is - They are using different ATM PVC.

SNBB: VPI/VCI: 0/100. -- VC MUX -- PPPoE
MioTV: VPI/VCI: 1/100. -- LLC --- 1483 Bridging

SMC router is excellent for this job, because it can manage multiple ATM PVCs -which to my knkowledge is rare on other brand's routers. - Correct me if I am wrong.

By dedicating one port on the SMC router to a VLAN linked to the 2nd ATM PVC, your MioTV box will just work fine. All other ports can be used for your computer BB connections.

:s12:

Note: You can also get the SMC ADSL wirelssG or wrielessN router, they have the same functionality.

Wow dig out old thread, anyway, this means you are NOT on Mio digital phone line rite? You are still paying toll charges for your analogue phone line?

7904 is a ADSL router. All ADSL modem, router, combos etc will work.
