Hi, is it possible to make an external hdd to be permanently networked shared?

After i connect it to the PC, im able to make it shared by accessing the sharing option as per norm. But the thing is, i keep the external HDD unplugged unless i wanna view media, but after i set the option for it to be shared i cant remove the drive safetly..

And last i found, removing it manually will remove the shared folder in the Network.

I wish to ask, is it possible to make the media folders on the external hdd shared and on the network(at least address-wise) even after i remove the hdd?
Of course, i cant access it but i dont want the hassle of having to set sharing all up again when i connect the hdd back to the PC.

regards

if you have a wireless router with a usb port, yes you can map it with the root ip of the router. I have a linksys gigabit router with usb port and that how i network my 3.5" ext hdd.

If not , get a network usb hub.. There is a MO ongoing at VR Forum for this. Check it out @
