today i encountered a problem with my home network

i'm running 2 winXPs (SP3) and 1 vista (SP1) on my network. my router is a dlink di524.

in the 'network' folder of vista i am able to see all the computers in the network. before anyone suggest noob solutions for me, they are all on the same workgroup.

however, when i try to click through it will say "Windows cannot access \\*computer name*" for both the xp coms.

for both the XPs it is even worse, i cannot see any of the other computers in the workgroup. (the XP coms cannot see each other either)

this is a big problem for me as it prevents me from using the printer connected to one of the xp coms.

i reiterate that this is a RECENT problem that has RECENTLY popped up, and i have been able to network all computers with no problems using the same setup in the past

i tried installing the LLTD protocol on one of the XP computers, but it doesn't solve the problem.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Using the words noob solution is not helping you in anyway to gain help.
Understood you are capable of setting up the LAN but still not a good idea to use these words when seeking helps from folks here.

i'm not too sure about that. maybe it could be something to do with the service packs (i suspect SP3). i don't remember changing anything on the xp pc's, maybe it was an automatic update?

sian... tried google, this kind of problem usually caused by 3rd party software, or it just went unresolved..

It's not about whether or not you offended someone here, we have no idea what "professional" steps you taken to tackle the problem you are facing now, so please tell us what is consider noob and what is not.

I don't know whether you noob or we noob, computer need not be in the same workgroup in oder to access each other, so it up to you to judge who is the noob here, 4 PCs in my home network are divided into 2 workgroups and all can access each other with Windows Firewall and 3rd party firewall installed, on this 2 work groups, 1 Vista (SP1) and 3 WinXP Pro (2 SP3 and 1 SP2).

Don't get the wrong idea, i'm not a pro here, just a networking novice stealing information in IBNC.
