View Full Version : How to use static IP instead of dynamic IP for Singnet mio?

As above. I have a 10 mbps Singnet mio plan with the 2wire modem (the plan which comes with the cable TV).
My IP changes every few pages I browse. I've tried messing with the settings on the gateway page (http://192.168.1.254/) but can't seem to get a static IP. My IP is 220.xxx.x.XXX and the last XXX keeps changing for every new page I load.
I need one because the current IP is messing with my private trackers (cannot register correct ratio and keep d/c-ing cos IP keeps changing). Also IP based forums keep disconnecting my account since my IP keeps changing.
Also is how come my IP starts with 220.xxx.x.xxx? All the other Singnet users I know have theirs starting with 141 or 129. They don't use the mio plan and their IPs are static untl they reset the modem.
Please help. Thanks in advance. :)

Is that one of Singnet's basic plans? Both my friends who use Singnet don't have the mio plan and they have static ips.

If your friends are using SNBB, it's dynamic IP. It appears static because usually the IPs are renewed after a certain period of time. You can check with your friends did they actually input their WAN IP into the router or did Singnet assigned them one.
Only Singtel Magix premiumsurf uses permanent static IP.
220.x.x.x I thought is the proxy IP ranges, maybe someone can confirm.
Can refer to the IP ranges singnet uses in the below URL

Their plan came like that. Their IPs only change whenever they reset the modem so it's somewhat like a static IP (for my case at least).
Can I just browse normally w/o the proxy thing? How do I turn it off? I'm satisfied just as long as I can achieve what my friends are having, not a switch in IP for every single new page I browse.
Sorry, a bit noobish here. Thanks in advance.

If your surfing experience is not disrupted then there's no worry IMHO. Are you sure it's your WAN IP that is changing because if it is, then it might mean your internet connection is getting disconnected. You might want to call up SNBB helpdesk.

It's just the IP-based forums and private trackers for torrents that are affected due to the IP change.

By right, the WAN IP won't change that drastically, you might have other issue like intermitten disconnection.
Call singnet helpdesk as LemonT suggested.
Or you can observe the WAN IP in the 2wire whether or not it really change so drastically.

I think it's the proxy caching thing Singnet uses. Is there a way to bypass the proxy servers and make a direct connection?

This will applies to your frens using SNBB also.
Of cos, if you're using fair comparison, that is the difference in experience when surfing such forums n etc, the above will not apply.

I suppose you are referring to the transparent proxy, maybe you can tyry using a static proxy to test the problem.
use proxy.singnet.com.sg at port 8080, if you unable to access the 2wire after this setting, check the "bypass proxy server for local addresses".
It might not fix the problem you are facing now, but do update folks here with the result or outcome.

Hi. I tried this. I think it's working, the proxy server IP address is no more changing when I access http://whatismyipaddress.com/. Also I can browse the forum without needing to re-login every few pages. So the proxy address will still change after awhile or after I reset the modem or will it stay that way permanently?
I hope it stays this way and no future problems arise. Thank you so much for all the help guys, this problem has been giving me a headache for almost half a year since I switched to Singnet mio. :):):)
Btw I added a screenshot of my current settings. Do I need to add or remove anything else? Under "No proxy for:" I only added 10.0.0.1 because it's my default gateway for my 2wire modem. "localhost" and "127.0.0.1" were there by default. is there a more generalized input so that I don't need to enter a new number everytime I change my router address on the gateway page?

Well, glad this old setting fixed the problem of your, if you can access the 2wire now, what you added is fine with the default gateway. With this setting, you are using the singnet static proxy and will stay till you remove the setting.

What about the SSL, FTP, Gopher proxy and SOCKS Host? What are those? Do I check the box for "use proxy for all protocols"? Also is this static proxy unique to just my computer or am I sharing it with multiple users? Once again thanks. :)

In general, user need not add anything to other proxy unless you are hosting something or using the system for some specific application which require the use of other proxy.
The static proxy only apply to the system with this setting and not to any other system on the network be it wired or wireless. If you want the setting to apply to all system, unless the router allows you to set the same setting, you will need to manually set the static proxy on all system on the network.
