got this WRT54G2 at sitex for only $69, tried to install it recently but this router doesnt seem to be communicating with the Starhub's motorola's surfboard.

The WRT54G2 is able to broadcast and setup a Local wireless network but is not able to connect to the internet when i connect it with the modem. The front "internet" LED lights up when i plug the modem in. but still no internet connection.

anyone have successfully set this combi up? will updating the firmware help? (assuming that there is, or if not, a third party firmware like Tomato)

power off and on your modem.
Then knock few times of your modem against the wall ( don't so hard ).
Then can connect already.

i believe the key lies in restarting the modem. enquired with one of my friends and he gave the same advice.

off everything and plug up, followed by powering-up router and then modem.

i was able to configure the router via 192.168.1.1 but there's no connection to the internet, and there's not much options to configure since its on BB, unlike ASDL which need login entries.

Have you try to physically turn off the wall plug that is connected to your modem instead of using the modem on/off button? OPps you did..

Did u try to connect the modem directly to your pc? Can you get a connection?

You sud powerup your modem 1st and the router

Off both modem and router for about 2 mins.
After that on your Motorola Cable modem.
When the status of the Motorola Cable modem is online, then on your router.
If still cant then,

Connect the Motorola Cable modem directly to your pc, if you get a connection means there's something to do with your router's setting.

DHCP mode on the router will do the trick. yes, you nid to power on ur modem first than your router. connection from modem to router is via WAN port.

try release and renew ip in the router configuration page.

thank u all for the advice, it works like a charm now. the method of switching of both router and modem, followed by powering up of modem and then router is like magic!
