Hi,

I recently purchased a Linksys WUSB54GC, later exchanged the product for D-Link DWA-110 (faulty extension cable).

Anyways, both adapters gave me similar issues.

1. When I first setup both adapters, they work fine. However, when I try to unplug and plug them into another usb port (not the one it was previously installed on). They get stuck at "acquiring network address" stage. I managed to resolved this by changing the SSID channel of my router. But I don't think this is a good permanent solution.

2. How come everytime I plug my adapter into a new USB port (on the same pc) My "Wireless Network Connection" gets +1 i.e Wireless Network Connection 5,6,7,8,9?

3. It seems like USB adaptors will disconnect me if I go idle. For example, if i AFK for awhile, my msn will get disconnected while Wireless Network Connection still states that I'm "connected". Is there anyway to solve this?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Is your router's wireless mac address filter being enable?

Go to device manager then rightclick on all the USB root hub>properties>power management then uncheck the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

Everytime you change port, a new connection is detected hence Windows will assign a new name to the "new" connection hence you got the number bigger and bigger each time you change port. Go to the control panel>network connection then rightclick on the wireless network icon, rename it back to wireless network connection without any number behind it.

Nope, I didn't enable it.

Go to device manager then rightclick on all the USB root hub>properties>power management then uncheck the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

Did as you instructed, I don't get stuck at "Acquiring Network Connections" anymore. But I don't know why I have 6 USB Root hubs but I unchecked all of them. I do notice that under device manager>network adapters> my usb adapter has a #3 (i.e D-Link Wireless G DWA-110 USB Adapter #3). Anyways thanks for the help. Will keep you posted if I encounter anymore anomalies.

I've also faced this problem when I have my old wireless adapter. Called D-link and they asked me to update the driver first. They send me a link through E-mail for direct download. But afterall, it is still not working. Therefore, went down to service centre. They replaced a new one for me. And it's working prefectly alr

Maybe reset your router and try first. Because it's not 100% the adapter's problem.
