Hi

Anyone here using active booster to boost weak SCV signal with good results ?

I am trying to extend my SCV cable outlet point to my bedroom via a 25 meter cable extension. Currently, I have completed the installation using a cheap RG6 cable from DIY shop but the result is unacceptable.

Certain TV channel such as TV5 & 8 have terrible ghosting image though other channels are less affected. Surprising, RTM1 image is excellent. I think the problem is due to attenuation and poor quality cable though not conclusive.

Would appreciate if anyone can share experience on using active booster and where to get such item.

TIA.

Yes, you are right. No ghosting problem when connected directly to the main point outlet via short (1m) RG6 cable. Problem only happen when connected over the long cable. Someone propose that I contact SCV to buy an active booster but I wonder if anyone else have similar encounter and their solution.

1 split usually don't give problem. Most of the time, it's due to poor termination of the connectors. If you suspect signal low, get SCV sub-contractor to check. If need, they do carry signal booster with them.

SCV booster improves signal by 15dB. I've the SCV booster installed (as shown in pic) as I splitted to 9 locations (see pic with 1x2-way, 2x3-way & 1x4-way). 2 of these locations is further splitted with a 2-way and 3-way splitter respectively.

Thanks all for your suggestion and sharing. Krazyman, I am impressed with your spaghetti of cabling. Must be quite a setup that you have there.

Anyway, my problem is solved. As advised, I dropped by SLT this evening to look for booster and new cable. Happened to see the SCV booster on display for $98 and asked the shop how it works. After explaining the problem to the elderly lady manning the shop, she told me that I do not need the booster unless I need more than 4 SCV outlets. Instead, she proposed that I replace the cheap TV cable with "SCV type cable" ($1.2/meter). She said that if it does not work, I can bring back. She also recommended SCV cable splitter ($8) as the usual one is not as good. Anyway, I bought 25m of the cable and the cable splitter.

After installing the cable splitter and cable, the image that I am getting now is simply impressive. :s12:I noted that the cable made the biggest difference - all ghosting is gone !! With the cable splitter, i noticed that it helped to improve the picture clarity and further reduces subtle ghosting. I am absolutely impressive with the result. All in all, this solution cost mere $40 only:s31:. Thanks all.:D

Actually I have thought of getting better cable such as Belden which cost $150 for 30m but it seemed that the cheaper SCV cable will do just as well for $1.20/m. Compare this to Belden cable, this is certainly cheap and much more functional than the cheapo TV cable found in DIY shop.

my cable point is in the bed room and the hubstation will be in the bed room too.

what is the best way to extend the output for cable TV to the TV in living room?

RCA cable? coxial cable? which is less likely to get interferene? the TV is about 20m away from the hubstation
