There are currently 4 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) serving broadband to singapore home consumers.

They are SingNet, M1, StarHub and Pacific Internet.

If you are using internet from any of the ISPs, tell us your experience (commendations, issues) with these ISPs.

You may also provide suggestions which these ISPs can improve their broadband services.

This thread will serve as a benchmark for those who are signing up or recontracting their broadband services.

Thanks for your contributions :)

all provide poor "services" and short-change their home customers... :(

you just have to choose the egg that meet your needs from the basket of bad eggs lor, unless you have $$$$, register and go for business plan.

Both SH and ST phone support sucks.
Singtel is especially bad since they're open to your complains durings office hours comapred to starhub's 24 hours.
However both parties CSO cannot deliver results. You still have to rely on the tech they dispatch to solve your problem.

My biggest gripe with SH is that youtube sucls.

that is the only reason I am with SingNet. otherwise I could stick with StarHub for the Hub Club rebates...

I was a StarHub MaxOnline subscriber. Didn't really have any problems till when I try games like Battlefield 2.

250+ ping for a Japan server, even using a Ethernet connection.

Switched to SingNet. ping immediately came down to 140+, and that's on wireless.

I get annoying "There is a problem with your connection" errors while using StarHub for BF2. It happens every few minutes or so. Absolutely unbearable. That's with an Ethernet connection, worse with wireless.

After switching to SingNet, that error only came once in a while. What's more on a wireless connection.

But I must admit, cable internet (StarHub MaxOnline) has a higher download speed.

I was streaming videos during midnight with MaxOnline. Gosh, the buffer bar went 100% in a few seconds. SingNet crawled behind.

But during peak hours MaxOnline is only somewhat better than 56k dial-up. It can take hours to stream videos.

Is singnet really slower in terms of download speeds? (I've heard this issue like many years ago...)

Currently I'm on MaxOnline Express 8mbps and I've no problem maxing the downstream (600-900KBytes/sec) during off-peak hours. My only complain is that download speed will start to crawl from 8pm onwards DAILY. Total combined downstream gets to 40-60Kbytes/sec at most. Thats like <10% max speed during peak hours. Weekends and PH like yesterday are worst...totally cannot download anything.
Aside from slow-loading of Youtube at peak hours, I've recently experience higher(than normal) latency to certain game servers. In the past couple of months I had to call starhub twice to fix the latency issues..which they did fix. So yeah, gaming latency is still an issue with starhub's cable internet.

My MOL plan has been w/o any contract for more than 4yrs now as none of the promos seems good anyway. Now I see Singnet offering new signups for their 8mbps plan (2yrs, first 6mths FREE, $45/mth for next 18mths) which I am considering.

I post in this thread as I hope to get more updated info regarding the other ISP from users as I know there are many of such threads in this forum. My views on MOL above is for the Express plan...not sure if its the same for Premium/Ultimate plans.
