anyone has a way to change the antenna to a higher db one?. I google and found that the only way is really major surgery on resoldering. I need to have a stronger signal? any suggestion?. I have read thru some threads here on flashing it with a different firmware, if any user of the wrt350n can share their experience, please reply.

Thanks:s13:

If i am not wrong, changing the antenna will not boost the signal, the only way to boost range is to provide more transmit power. having more sensitive antennas will only allow the wireless clients to see the AP better. So if its previously one bar strength at some place, having larger antennas will only prevent it from dropping the one bar strength signal and not make it 2 bars strong.

ok, thanks. Will an AP or a repeater better for me? Thanks.

Changing the antenna doesn't boost the signal received by the laptop.
However it's able to better pick up signals from the laptop.

Highly dependent on your hardware version, you can flash with dd-wrt (free) and boost the transmit power from the default 80mw? to 200 mw (not safe). It's a free solution worth exploring.

Yeah could try DD-WRT, but you have to check if its compatible with your set. Another simpler way would be to reposition you router.

Antenna power has to work both ways, so your pc must also be able to transmit higher power.

Higher gain antenna bases concentration of output to get better signal. It does work in some intended ways

350n antenna is stuck unless wanna DIY. Either way, don't get hung up about "stronger" signal. If there's no diff in transfer speed between full bar and half bar, the signal strength is just for chio and pai sui.

Thks for the suggestion, if i do not want to touch the fw, would u recommend using a repeater or an ap? I always hv the impression a repeater is more for phone. Anyone has gone thru this research? Im also not a fan of powerline wireless. Thks

half of repeater wireless b/w is used to talk with the AP.
