Durability? none other than Daikin. Daikins will just go on and on and on... Well if the price is too high maybe u can try Panasonic.(I've had good experience with the above two brands)
My old Sanyo (More than 17 years in my old house) is durable too! But don't know the QC @ Sanyo today so I don't dare to comment.

Daikin, because if the aircon breaks down, you have to spend precious time trying to get people to come to repair. It's even more important considering the fact that you are renting out long term.

Recommended by Gain City sale person, Hitachi system 3 inverter.
Any idea is Hitachi ok ?

I got the Hitachi as recommended by Gain City also. On paper, the specs are quite good (consumes less electricity and quieter than Starmex).

I thought Starmex is the quietest. But the sale person told me that Hitachi take shorter time to cool the room. He desmontrate between Starmex & Hitachi. Can feel the airflow is much stronger than Starmex.

Airflow stronger is one point.
Most important is the temp (offcoil) of the air coming out The ideal temp of the air shld be 12 to 15 degress. If air coming out is not cold enough, strong also no use.
Just my thoughts.
Sys 3, u can try Panasonic non-invertor or Daikin non-invertor.

Lots of people recommend Daikin. Daikin is as popular as Samsung in LCD TVs or Nokia in mobile phones. Not saying that Daikin its good or bad as an aircon product, just saying its very popular. But popularity does not always equates to good attitude towards customer service and from personal experience years ago I found Daikin to be very arrogant in their respond towards call for assistance.
More importantly I think is the ability of the contractor to do a good installation of the aircon system, meaning the layout of the conduits for air and drainage, because if not properly done the system will not be efficient (ie air not so cold at temp setting which should be sufficiently cold) and drainage/conduit leakeage or tearing problem due to bad conduit insulation.
Do ensure that you buy from authorised dealer/distributor of that brand (daikin, sanyo, whatever) and not a sub-distributor or sub-dealer. There will always be more than one authorised dealer, make sure you pick one that display responsibilty to customer satisfaction and with good experience and track record (admit its not easy but try lah).

I was not recommended Daikin at all 5 years ago. I got National. I know that brand name like Sanyo, Mitsubishi are very good & reliable in Air con.
I heard bad comment from Daikin. Carrier used to be good but after shifting to China, a lot of problem arised & the brand name propularity had dropped since then.

The salesman will always recommend the brand which gives them the most commission.
Usually G**n C**y will Recommend Hitachi.
All Best/Best Tech will recommend Daikin/Mit Easy Clean.
For invertor, it's best to use Toshiba or Daikin. Many condos nowadays come pre-installed with either these 2 brands.

Daikin...
Very satisfy about the air con performance.
Daikin air con may cost more compare other brand, but the money spend is worth it.
