Hi

I have a problem and would like to ask for suggestions on how to go about solving it.

I want to connect my two computers so that I could do file transfer between them.

PC A
Type - Laptop
OS - Windows XP Home

PC B
Type - Desktop
OS - Windows Vista Home Premium

I've bought a crossover cable, and had read the guides online to set it up, but I couldn't get it to work still.

Vista is able to detect XP, but if I tried to double click on XP and access its folders, it gives me an error message saying "Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.". When I clicked on 'Diagnose' it gives me "MYNOTEBOOK is not a valid host name. Check the spelling of the name, make sure the computer is turned on and connected to the network or contact your network administrator."

On the XP side, I couldn't even get it to list out the "View workgroup computers". It returns me an error message "Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to ind out if you have access permission. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."

On both system, I've enabled file discovery/sharing, turned off the Windows firewall, and made sure that the workgroup is of the same name. Did I missed out anything?
